also why is Virtualdj so common amongst newcomers, why not just get traktor?
VirtualDJ is free
I only listened to the first 2 transitions, it's mostly basic auto synced intro - outro mixing, nothing much to say really, as you can't pull of crazy stuff with nothing but a laptop and software. also why is Virtualdj so common amongst newcomers, why not just get traktor? Also, Disseminate, may I ask what gear you use?
Cause it's free and has most of the barebones features of Traktor and Serato.
VirtualDJ is free
wow really? but with lots of restrictions I guess. I never really looked into it, as DJing without gear doesn't feel right lol
wow really? but with lots of restrictions I guess. VDJ is actually pretty robust. It's not industry standard by any means - Traktor is far more stable and clean.
also another thing about all in one controllers, Main reason I've made the switch from the S4 to technics + mixer combo was the fact that one of my faders started having issues about 8 months being used only at home. I sent it in for warranty and got a brand new one back that I'm looking to sell. Bscly if something breaks, you cannot really replace it (or could i send my s4 in for repair again??) and that would be really costly if you got something like the S4 which is like 900 bucks worth. As far as I know, cross and line faders are replaceable on pioneer mixers, some of the other stuff too, which is why I think modular setups are more favorable.
VDJ is actually pretty robust. It's not industry standard by any means - Traktor is far more stable and clean.
yeah timecode tracking is atrocious tho. But maybe I didn't set it up correctly or it's my busted as fuck MK1 records. It lags a lot more than traktor, to the point that I find cutting on it a a bit harder.

Traktor Pro sounds so much clearer compared to VDJ, though the lack of an overlay view is slightly annoying. Should I take the safe bet with a Kontrol S2 as a controller, or are there other better stuff for beginners. Bear in mind I'm using purely digital songs. [editline]gah[/editline] Automerge fail
Do research on everything before buying a controller. You don't want to get an S2 then want four channels and have to buy an S4, or realize you actually wanted to use a CDJ or turntable setup. [editline]3rd November 2012[/editline]
Also, Disseminate, may I ask what gear you use?
Traktor S2 + Traktor + HDJ-500s. Cheap but I've had no complaints (apart from wanting to do some live performance stuff ie with a midi fighter or f1)
Traktor S2 + Traktor + HDJ-500s.
As you use Traktor you might know this. Is there a way to show both songs waveforms overlayed instead of seperately? I'm really missing it with certain songs.
No
As you use Traktor you might know this. Is there a way to show both songs waveforms overlayed instead of seperately? I wish I could turn the waveforms off completely in traktor, as I've done with the phase meter and BPM display. but I gotta admit, you can clearly see on a vinyl where a breakdown is and waveforms kind of recreate that.

Waveforms are great for showing people "hey look at me I'm a megacomplicated DJ you'll never understand all the nuances of the art, be impressed at my supreme software and high-tech controller!" But if that's your goal then you shouldn't be a DJ. [editline]3rd November 2012[/editline]
I generally use the waveforms for only songs I've never heard before, but I like being able to improvise.
You have to know your songs. No excuses. Waveforms often lie - I don't play songs that I've had for under two weeks.
You have to know your songs. No excuses. As said before, generally if I've heard a song more than once I don't need the waveform but for some I haven't and in those cases it's really helpful.

You can use that or what is commonly known as phrase matching, aka listening to the changes of the music after 8,16 and 32 bars. Waveforms are nice but you don't need them.
I made this really neat mashup, and I'm guessing here is the place where I should post it!

For the guys asking how to start djing, go with what Joe said and buy two turntables and a 2 channel mixer, 10/20 vinyl and teach yourself how to beatmatch. I might be being a whatever but you should start spinning wax. It doesn't cost much; I picked up headphones, monitors, 2 tables, mixer for £30 off ebay when I first started. Also learn your phrasing, it's a good idea to know your tunes if you can so you know when the drops are coming and can even double them but I got round my friends often and just ask him to throw tunes at me that I've never even heard before, as long as you have a feel for phrase you can get them in sync pretty easily.

I started out in VirtualDJ ( dumb move ) and only got a feeling for transistions, which I got good at eventually, but I was just using sync over and over and over and over. When I got to using hardware, I found out that all you could hear was gallopping horses with house synths and leads in the backgorund. Thats when I learned beatmatching is IMPORTANT AS FUCK. Oh, and a really awesome exercise when you're good at it ( which I learned from some pros on a dj school ) take some random tracks, different genre and bpm if you're really tough, and then you have 10, 20 or 30 seconds to beatmatch and mix the 2 tracks. ( It absolutely sucks doing that against one of the most skilled DJs in the country. ) [editline]6th November 2012[/editline] Oh btw. Here, have a mashup. http://soundcloud.com/deejayvons/shotgun-power-1-9-vons no wait, have 2. http://soundcloud.com/deejayvons/million-beautiful-atomic the last transistion.. I hate it.. but I love the track.. [editline]6th November 2012[/editline] actually, have 3 http://soundcloud.com/deejayvons/lmfao-vs-mohombi-bumpy my first mashup lol ( hooray for shitty mp3 quality on the last track )

Wow... I just fell in love. AGK K167, HOLY SHIT these cans are amazing, definately buying! Even the little brother ( K67 ) rocks the HDJ 2000s!
Not hard, Pioneer is far from good when it comes to headphones.
Found some new artists, put them in a new mix :v: -listen and download- Anyone here also into playing Minimal stuff thats similar to the stuff later on in the mix? If so, lemme hear your mixes and recommend me artists! More variety 's best

Seems Soundcloud still doesn't like people doing anything creative with others' music, mix was taken down right after upload :c Reuploaded
new remix! enjoy it guys!
If I google the name of the original track, I just get page after page of soundcloud links to even more different remixes. Original please Some minimal critique: What I've heard yet sounds quite good, think the snare that comes in at ~1:46 is pretty weak, the one before generic but the rest of the track seems good
