Hey guys!
I know i know.. but I've got another one! hahahaha!
Same four tunes as the competition entry mix in the intro because..well damn it's too good an intro for a neuro mix to not use it and now I'm using it where it should be used. FOR A NEUROMIX!
It's an hour and 20 minutes, so obviously, theres alot more than the first four tunes if you've already heard that mix ;)

Love some feedback :)
Entered a comp to win a dj slot! Would really appreciate a vote!

Probably gonna DJ a little at a friends small house party
To fit the occasion, what do you guys think about DJing and drinking/perhaps even using drugs at the same time?
I guess for some really nervous people, a little alcohol can help stop you from fumbling around due to being scared shitless; the drunk mind will simply not question its own abilitys. But I guess passing out over your turntables, mixer, laptop, over other utilitys is no recipe for sucess. Share ideas
I've never properly played out (though when I do you can guarantee I won't be 100% sober), but depending on how well you can handle your alcohol intake, also I know people throw this phrase around alot but actually know your own limits. Feel free to drink!
Weed/Mandy, is going to make things a liiiiiittle difficult!
Not to say you can't do it, but you need to practice in these states as if you were learning all over again!
I regularly mix FUCKED UP at my friends house, once you've got used to it. It's like mixing normally.
Though if you aren't used to it, you will just be staring at the equipment like O___O not having the focus to even realize which deck you're supposed to be mixing into!
Drugwise, really depends what you're going to be taking.
Oh and if you can all of you get a goddamn account on this site : www.clublandlv.com/
I just play it safe and limit myself to two beers. Everything you DJ affects your reputation.

When I DJ I don't drink. Your job is to DJ, not party like everyone else. Whether or not money is involved, you are there for a reason, to play music.
Get a big bottle of water, buddy up with someone do get you soda or anything else you need from the bar, and play music.
Always remember your role as a DJ.
I disagree, the amount of times I've gone to raves and my favourite djs have been mashed beyond belief i've lost count of.
If you can hold your shit together, feel free to indulge.
I'm probably your stereotypical DJ. I abuse alcohol & drugs (not every gig though) all which makes DJing even more fun! I tend to go into my own world when I'm mashed, I'll constantly look at the mixer and CDJs for the whole time, dancing around and shit. Sober DJing is just me bobbing my head occasionally and watching people in the crowd.
Also began a new alias for dubstep, trap and moombah, Litsubushi Mancer (so corny). Worked on a new track, which I hope to finish this week and play next weekend.

If you can do it, then go for it. I know I can't. :(
I feel like I play a little better after a couple drinks (which I know probably isn't the case). I can't mix for shit if I smoke any wacky tobacy though.
Had a sweet 4-deck mixing sesh with a fellow producer last night:

In other news, finished my latest dnb/drumstep track (free download on SC)

thinking of trying some light DJing/music producing
Im not really concerned with live stuff, i'd rather just make original mixes at home and shit like that
(I'm really into house/electro)
My friend has a novation launchpad and it's pretty sweet, but I heard Abelton is coming out with the "push" which looks even sweeter

anyone have experience with abelton live or anything like that? or anyone have tips for the kind of thing im gonna do?
Two turnables and a mixxahhh!
Ableton mixing is not the same, it beatmatches it for you and all you have to do is hit play.
Theres nothing like the feeling of just keeping a tune in time while you're riding a mix.
You'll only get this with a controller (without using sync) or cds or vinyl. Preferably pick up a cheap set of direct drive turntables, 10/20 vinyl in one genre, a 3 band eq 2 channel mixer and goto town!
THEN once you've learnt the roots of mixing, beatmatching on wax with no waveforms or sync. You can move onto fancy gadgets, though I doubt you'll want to!
Vinyl is prohibitively expensive for a lot of people. The gear itself costs quite a bit, then there's the fact that not much music is on vinyl any more. It's a lot, but nothing compared to what's available digitally, and that the actual records are expensive. My advice, try to start out with something that emulates two decks and a mixer before you think about moving on to Ableton. I did that and went back to Traktor, because for all the fancy things you can do with it, it's difficult to just mix tracks in Ableton.

Does anybody have any input on picking a rackmount dual CD player and a rack mixer to go with it? I need it to play USB media, show track titles, and the mixer should have at least 2 channels and XLR outs. I'm switching to CDs for now because my laptop crashed at a house party and I can't afford/don't really want a separate DJing laptop right now.
To be honest Ableton is the way to go if you want to produce music, but I came to ask about Mixing in Traktor.
Is anyone here exclusively a Traktor user? Anyone use it over Serato and want to explain why?
Traktor over Serato Itch/Serato DJ or their DVS/Scratch software? I can't speak to SSL/Traktor Scratch or the new Serato DJ (Itch's replacement) but I like the customizablility of Traktor.
If you want things to "just work," get a Serato controller. If you want to use multiple controllers and have access to more and better (arguably) effects and things like that, go Traktor.

I'm exclusively Traktor. I've never tried Serato and have no plans to - traktor does the job fine.
It's really not the best if you don't want to have to deal with setting things up-Itch really is plug and play. I used a friend's VCI-300 at a house party and I liked the simplicity, but I was annoyed by the way one of the buttons worked and I had no way of re-mapping it.

I agree, mix with VDJ or Traktor on your computer to actually get a feel for mixing but equipment is not expensive I picked up a whole setup plus monitors for £30, vinyl was the most expensive part but you only need 10/20. Also who says you need new music? You're learning, and there's a shitload of old bangers and by old I mean a few years ago.
It's more about learning and appreciating the roots and fundamentals. Also if you can beatmatch vinyl well, you can mix on anything. In any genre.
I understand why people would disagree with me, nowadays it's simply easier to go laptop dj with a controller but I'm a firm believer in learning from the roots and...theres nothing like wax.
Yeah I agree on that. You should learn on a two decks and a mixer-type setup and you absolutely must learn to beatmatch manually and not just for reasons of "knowing your roots"-sync doesn't always work, tempos can be wrong, etc. and if you're relying on sync, it WILL fail when you need it most, and you'll be screwed. It's just a good skill to have. The gear is really less important than the skills to use it.
You don't have to get a vinyl setup but don't let yourself use sync at all. Anyone who can't beatmatch by ear is not a DJ.
Question: do you guys have your headphones on both ears all the time and use the cue mix control, one ear all the time, only when cueing up tracks, etc?

it's easier to learn to beatmatch on a pair of turntables than it is on software with the bpm counter covered up

I'll have it on only when cueing. I don't want to accidentally kill a fader and wonder why the crowd isn't moving.
Wondering if anyone here has heard any of Big Skapinsky's Mega Mixes.
He did a Deadmau5 one on his traktor setup, then re-did it with Ableton.

Here's a generic Electro Megamix he did, it's awesome.

dunno bud if you're making a megamix not in realtime then it needs a hell of a lot more content...
listen to samus j's 90's megamixes for a good lol but they took some skill too.

go on ebay and buy record selection packs. i built up a massive collection this way. you get a mix of good and shit tunes but also things you'd have never heard otherwise.

well if you use the software to its full potential then sync won't fail. you just have to set up the bpm properly for each tune and make sure it calculates to beat markers correctly.
people are just lucky at how good technology is these days.
don't know if related. but deadmau5 has dropped a new song.. don't know if finished, here's the soundcloud for it:

Well, I just re-organized my music collection. Now everything is in C:/users/me/Music as opposed to some of it being in /music and some being in an iTunes folder another four levels in. I also converted the iTunes AAC's I had to 320 MP3s. The whole thing is much cleaner and easier to move around now, really happy I did it.
[editline]20th November 2012[/editline]
Also rekordboxing all my shit, because at this point I think I'm just gonna move over to CDJs for gigs (lol gigs yeah).
Anyone have some suggestions for someone who wants a beginner rig for someone who wants to scratch? I don't have a very powerful laptop so some software may not be good for me to use.
