got a numark mixtrack pro and some sennhesier hd 205 headphones for xmas now all i need to do is learn to beatmatch by ear. sync is gay. also, played my first live set at a house party at new years. basically turned into a rave when i started mixing. unfortunately was still sync+playing, but nobody there knew the difference and the other djs that played were also sync+play djs. one of them didnt even have a controller and was just mixing (badly) using virtual dj and a laptop trackpad. needless to say i smashed it; though i would have been much happier if i wasnt just doing sync+play
What i'm using atm, need some new headphones though. Anyone recommend some decent, not ridiculously expensive ones to get?
I got some used Pioneer HDJ500s off ebay a while back. They're a little bass-heavy but they work.

Shit, I just uploaded another mix to Soundcloud and almost instantaneously it got removed due to copyright claims. It's odd, because I used a remix of the song they claimed was copyrighted (They claimed I used the original, obviously). It's even more odd because I just realised I had actually used that track in a previous mix with no problems at all. Looks like I'll be using Mixcloud from now on then. As far as headphones go, I can't recommend these enough: http://www.amazon.co.uk/KRK-KNS6400-Studio-Headphones/dp/B004ARSMXQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357933321&sr=8-1

Whenever I upload a mix to YouTube it gets a copyright claim within a few hours. Never had anything removed though, just get ads put on it. Make sure you can do it for when hardware gets it wrong and use 'sync', beatcounters whenever. Nobody is watching you, wanking off and screaming about how you didn't press sync.
Sucks but the way to avoid this is don't post a tracklist. Or misspell it.
Yeah, I never usually post the tracklist to any mixes. I sent them an email disputing it a few days ago but they still haven't said anything more about it.

I should probably figure out what I'm doing before I keep buying shit. I like DJing and producing, I just suck at all of it. I just can't resist these sales. I got the Launchpad for $80 because it was open box, Synthstation was on sale for $25. It didn't have any knobs which is fucking annoying so I got the LPD8. Then a few days ago, the Mixtrack Pro got a pretty hefty price cut, so I picked that up for $150.

There's an overload of information for free on the internet if you look for it.
It actually wasn't too bad when I was playing around with the mixer. I just need to look around for some more guides on basic shit.
It actually wasn't too bad when I was playing around with the mixer. I just need to look around for some more guides on basic shit.
Look up Ellaskins on youtube. He's a godsend for DJs.
Thanks. I've seen a few of his videos around, but haven't had a ton of time to watch them.
Got 2 gigs booked on 'Straya Day. I'm keen as hell, I'll post a gig log on Sunday or Monday.
Mmm NDX 200.... Do you want to throw it out a window everytime you use it? :) Headphone wise.. HD-215s
Haha a little, got that for a good price so better than nothing for getting the hang of CDJ's!
Haha a little, got that for a good price so better than nothing for getting the hang of CDJ's!
Don't take it the wrong way not knocking your gear! They were my first CDJs and I'm still using one, it drives me mad! ahahah Got my first proper set tomorrow night, I'm stuck halfway between hyped and bricking it! Better go practice some more :)
Buying an Allen&Heath Xone:42 (or even 92, maybe) this summer when I have money from working. However I need something in the meantime since the crappy Behringer I have been using for the last 2 years just said "fuck you" and died. Torn between a Pioneer DJM250 and Allen&Heath Xone:22... Pioneer is €100 cheaper and has 2 filters, but A&H is analog and sound quality is much better. Hrrrm decisions...
I was drunk the whole day, and I only took once picture and that was at night. 'Straya Day Sausage Fest :S This was only at 10pm too. More girls rocked up later.
Played my first proper set and it was at a proper big club, the night got absolutely fucking rammed but unfortunately I was opening at 10pm decimating to a fairly empty room but the people there will still vibin! I got in half an hour early and had a warm up on the system to get used to it (first time on a rig). Fucking love moving that much air around! I was shit for the first few mixes warming up but then I got used to it and wow... crank the booth monitors, get used to the mixer and it's like being at home just with a shitload of bassweight! Had so much fun and was confident enough to do my silly bassline swaps like i usually do, so much fun! I'll have the mix I did on the night up tonight or tomorrow extended slightly :)

Did you have any problems with the club-goers? A lot of people I know refuse to play out on days like Ozzie Day and what not because of the dickheads. Also here's another trap mix I just uploaded. https://soundcloud.com/gorza/copyright-trap
It was actually a decent crowd. No fights or anything in general, two things only happened, one was people getting out for being too intoxicated and making themselves look like a fool on a dancefloor haha, and me telling some dickhead to fuckoff because he kept coming up and touching the jogwheel.

So I need some advice guys, a local club is having some competition for a Dj spot to support a semi big act in Australia. I'm thinking of entering but am really not sure. I haven't Dj'ed in a very long time but I'm not too nervous about that. Just don't know if it's the right move to take. Thats the flyer for it. The set length is 30 minutes if that helps. I don't think there will be much competition or any difficulty being unique at all, as my town is mostly a bunch of kids who wanna be skrillex or swedish house mafia by Djing and becoming famous. My plan was just to go and blast out a whole bunch of moombahton, trap, glitch and similar stuff for fun. Advice?

Advice?
Throw in a mixture of commercial house (dutch/electro/progressive etc - including popular songs) and underground electro beats (but make sure they're real bangers). It's usually judged on by who can most please a crowd, beat selection and then on mixing. I've won many competitions like this solely based on song selection. What kind of music does the club play? Most won't try and get out of their comfort zone only because they want what punters expect (This isn't the case rarely however). Also, I have a new mix located here: The Sounds Of Melbourne - This sound is becoming popular worldwide and I can tell you, it's fucking awesome :D

Advice?
Show your skills off, don't neccesarily play the top 10 mainstream hits, but keep it groovy and funky, moombahton is an amazing warmup genre. Don't do like Hardwell On Air, playing mainstream tracks, then doing a simple transistion into another, to play that track full length too.. gets boring.. very quickly.
My plan was just to go and blast out a whole bunch of moombahton, trap, glitch and similar stuff for fun.
finally another dj who plays glitch and moombahton let's be best friends!
