Err what are you using? If you're using something that automatically matches BPM, make sure all your tunes are the full length and play out in build down, don't try anything too fancy and you can't really go wrong.
I got this Reloop Terminal Mix 2 controller and my laptop, never touched a CDJ in my life so I'll be bringing the controller to the venue. And I'll keep that in mind, thanks.
cdjs are wank tbh, never got on with them. should be fine with your controller, if you can't beatmatch by ear make sure your tunes have been correctly analysed before you play for no embarrassing trainwrecks. does anyone know wtf this means ? traktor scratch obv, the red lines in the middle. the other doesn't do it. [editline]25th June 2013[/editline] oh means it's not earthed apparently. would make sense, earth cable has snapped off deck. anyone replaced that on a 1210?!

Got a chance for my first public gig but nop I sold all my turntables and whats left is a shitty numark TTi which I don't even know why I bought it in the first place. Also recently found these for sale, $1000, yes or no?
Any one have any tips for a traktor s4?
I'm considering getting myself a traktor s4. Does anyone here use it/like it? It seems pretty beginner-friendly.
I'm considering getting myself a traktor s4. Does anyone here use it/like it? It seems pretty beginner-friendly.
Build quality is pretty good. And if your using Traktor it works pretty well.
Welp. I've decided to buy the s4. Wish me luck! :)
Bumping with new material for you guys to spin! (if you wish!) Oops, I ended up clicking on the wrong thread and posted before I realized. Herp derp. Ignore this.
Does anyone have experience with projector visuals and such? Can someone recommend a good program to merge the images kinda like blendy http://www.blendy.in/vj/ well I never used blendy but I'm looking for something free.. Also, for the person on about cdjs not being very good.. Well the newer ones are pretty damn neat. I loved playing on them plus the force feed back on the platter gives that old turn table feel. I love it! Unf the CDJ-2000 Nexus though.. I can't describe how amazing those feel.
Nothing shits me more when other DJs redline the mixer.

just had to pretty much re-learn how to mix on vinyl for a set I'm doing tomorrow night. p. nervous because it's vinyl only & I normally use Traktor (become too reliant on the visual cues for beatmatching), it's also my first ever set & it's at one of the biggest pubs/clubs in the city. doing it b2b with a friend tho so that should ease the tension. any tips/hints?
ok so the set was p. good we only planned to play for 30 minutes - 1 hour but ended up playing for 2 hours only two major fuck ups; my friend left one his records there and I accidentally played the same tune twice (was going to play the B side, couldn't see the label and played the same side as I did before) but other than that we got a good reaction, the other DJ's came up to us and said we did a really good job and we're playing again next fortnight. not sure if I have enough wax tho aha
hello i put together a little mix for rido's new ep called faith which is out on metalheadz, im still new to this mixing stuff so its all very basic if youre into dark, techy dnb with complex drum patterns you should definitely bag this ep
Finally finished getting set up in my dorm. Also, does anyone have any experience DJing in a foreign country? Any differences you found to DJing in your country of residence?
Not sure if I'm allowed to post in here. I'm not a DJ myself, however I run a review-based journalistic webpage and marketing stream for events in my country. We participate in the following and debuts for new artists. Therefore I've gotten some stories and experience myself. In comparison to other countries (I am from the Netherlands), Holland gives DJ's a very business-like approach. Where-as other countries seem to focus much more on the individual story, talent and music itself. Then again, Holland is a small place. Flooded with backyard DJ's and they simply have to get a gain out of it. Once you get on a hook that has contacts you are easily a quick-growing shroomie here in Amsterdam.
Decided to upload a practice mix. This stuff is pretty fun (and surprisingly hard, I really need to learn how to use the S4 better since what I've learned so far is pretty boring). Pretty much basic transitions, I feel like I may have fucked up pretty bad on some parts (specifically track volume, and the first transition). But I've gotta start somewhere haha http://www.mixcloud.com/guyross93/guys-30-minute-practice-mix/ [sp]The screaming sample is a friend of mine, thought it would be funny to include it.[/sp]
Threw a pretty bangin' party for my 23rd. I bought some lights and got them all set up for the party and I'm really interested in getting more involved with doing lighting. I went the cheaper route and just got sound-activated stuff for now (although the strobe I got does do DMX control) Anyone else here interested in lighting at all? The party was rad, a few of my buddies DJ too so we cleared out the dining/coffee tables in my living room, moved my turntables/s4 to one end of the room, and then took turns on the decks all night. I don't play out ever, I just mix for fun on my own time, but I think I might be wanting to change that now. This was the most people I've ever played for and I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would!
Yeah DJing in front of people is extremely addictive. I've only played out twice now and I'm constantly looking for more opportunities to do so. House parties are great for it, my friend (who I DJ with) is currently setting up his own light system with a bunch of LCD monitors hooked up to play some VDJ software, should be fun doing parties with that. Was meant to play a party last Friday for 300 people but the party got cancelled :( Managed to get a gig in October for some warehouse rave tho, does anyone have any experience with those? I've heard of cops crashing raves and confiscating the DJ's gear.
Alright, I need some advice. I was learning to mix on my brothers decks but he's gone back to Uni and taken them with him so I'm looking for a basic two-track mixer I can use with my PC for ideally under 100 pounds. Any recommendations?

If you really want to go cheap, I think Behringer or Hercules might have some really cheap stuff. Can't vouch for the quality you're getting though. [editline]30th September 2013[/editline] In other news, here's me getting ready to blast my set on Laundry Day 2013, I'm the little dude on the left: Show of my life without a doubt
I did a new mix. I've been moving away from playing house recently, this one's more of a bass music tip. Plus there's some Destiny's Child thrown in for good measure.

Starting a monthly night with some buddies and playing my first show tonight! Doing a bit of a hybrid dnb/hip hop set because I've been producing a bunch of stuff in that 170-180 dnb range but half of it is half time. Stooooked!
So I entered a DJ competition as joke, ended up getting through into heats & it looks like I'm now going into finals. The promoters also said they want me to run a deep house/UK garage night for them :v: also scored 3 upcoming Dubstep/Grime residencies with a couple of different groups. considering investing in some DVS of some-sort, most likely Traktor since that's what I'm used to - a lot of people here say Serato is the way to go, but I'm not sure if it's worth all the extra $$$ also not sure if I should invest in a CDJ system of some sort so I feel more comfortable using club set-ups [editline]4th November 2013[/editline]
Starting a monthly night with some buddies and playing my first show tonight! oh sweet diggums didn't realise we had a DJ thread. I'm still relatively new to it, but my friends at no wave magazine in kent put on the biggest alternative night in Canterbury, and whenever there's a hip-hop night I always jump at the chance to spin. I really want to start mixing Jungle, Goldie is pretty much my idol, but there's no market for it in Kent. Maybe in Brighton. Anyhow, what controllers would you guys recommend? I'm interested in try my hand at Djing with a more elaborate direction, and utilising my laptop. all I've ever used up until now is mid-range pioneer CDJs and a fairly rudimental mixing desk
