Anyone know how I can use ableton live and traktor at the same time? Want to use my launchpad and S2 at the same time.
Do you want them synced up or just running independently? I know Traktor has some MIDI sync options but I'm not really familiar with them.
I don't DJ, but I produce with a DJ. He runs Traktor on a Zone 92, I run ableton alongside
No mids? What?
For what he's doing, he won't need that control.
yeah I don't need it when I'm doing turntablism, but damn I need it when i do some classic mixing. I paid about 150 for it and I think I can still bring it back, afterall the seller told me to test it. So shall I keep it or get one with mid eq?
Sounds pretty good, but watch out for tracks not being in sync / beatmatched. [editline]23rd June 2012[/editline] Btw, whats up with " Oh Snap! Mix edit " ?
That was just my mixing, I didn't pre-beatmatch some songs, I hit play and slam the fader straight up, usually my timing is correct, but not in this case :s They're my mix edits, they all have 16 bar intros and outros, and contain the main parts of the song, its good for quick mixing - hotcues can basically do the same thing, but the gear I play on does not have hot cues.
Do you want them synced up or just running independently? Ah well. On a side note, anyone have some older Drum and Bass for me to mix to break me back in gently?

I've decided on a Kontrol X1 as my next controller. I'm going to use it as a mixer and transport controller so I can replace my Mixtrack with it. So now my entire setup will be the Trigger Finger, an X1 and a soundcard. I've tried mixing without a crossfader and it's not that hard, especially since I never did much with it anyway.
alright so, does anyone know some really fast scratches that would fit go with glitch hop? can anyone tell me what the hell that scratch at 0:34 is, i want that kind of scratch. It looks like he is simply leaving the fader open and doing very fast baby scratches to the beat, occasionally closing the fader like every 2nd beat. Am I wrong?
Damn that's an amazing performance. It really shows how you can use turntables and MIDI controllers together. Can anyone tell me what mixer that is?

damn I guess it really is a two click flare :V I think I can do that, if not gotta learn that scratch asap thanks mate
damn I guess it really is a two click flare :V I think I can do that, if not gotta learn that scratch asap thanks mate
Not to discourage you, but it took me 3 years to master 2 clicks. Good luck tho, it's all a mental thing.
Holy shit. But I also guess you don't practice 8 hours a day. Or do you? and yeah, flares really are a mental thing, they really seem rather unorthodox. but it's also good to know that people don't go from newbie to pro in a few months, that thought has pushed me to spend every waking hour practicing because "I'm not good enough"

I'm now 24. It takes time. You will be a better DJ in turn by NOT giving in to the bullshit "controllerism" (no offense to others) that has made DJ'ing a joke.
Uh how is that not supposed to offend people? How is controllerism bullshit?
Uh how is that not supposed to offend people? How is controllerism bullshit?
I know some of the best DJ's who have been doing it for ages. They all feel the same way about "controller" dj's. If you show up to a gig with an apc40 and think you're the shit, you're not. If you can cut it up, and not SPAM effects in a set as a controllerist then you have my support. I have yet to meet one tho.

I think controllerism is fucking awesome personally, you know, not just spamming effects and shit. Something like Madeons Pop Culture for example. [editline]27th June 2012[/editline] Also who the fuck cares what DJ's who have been doing it for ages think? My dad thinks computers are retarded and he's been using them 15 years longer than me. That doesn't mean he's right.

stop right there, let's not turn this into a controllerism vs turntablism war. although, I am on the same wavelength with you, okefee. Controllerism isn't really my thing but I respect controllerists like Ean Golden. Anyway Imma post up my first routine soon, gotta iron out all the mistakes first though
Just because old school DJ's don't respect something doesn't mean it's automatically bullshit.
Oh boy isn't that ironic. "DJ's only play other peoples music, where's the skill in that?" "Controllerists only spam effects, where's the skill in that?"
I don't know where you're pulling those quotes from, pimpin'. I'm not saying ALL "controllerists" are effect spamming. But what I am saying is that I go to a LOT of shows, whether or not I'm performing, and so far at a local/underground level, everyone is just spamming effects and filters. I know there are some genuinely SKILLED "controllerists" who I could never compete with in their field. But you see what this thread is called? If you wanna go guy a controller with some form of turntable/scratching mechanic and rock a set, it's never an issue. My beef is with people who show up with a fucking CONTORLLER WITH ONLY PADS, and think they're "in the mix", or whatever bullshit. [editline]27th June 2012[/editline] Also, did any of you note that I'm talking about SHOWS?? DJ's are meant to either compete, or play music at shows/clubs 99% of the time. If you wanna post a video clip of you rocking out to an mpc, NO FUCKING PROBLEM. My issue, to restate it yet again, is when people show up to clubs with a generic midi drumpad, and try to "spin" a set.
The same goes for turntablists. If you show up to a club or a wedding or whatever and you start scratching and doing all this crazy stuff the whole gig, you're shit. Also what's wrong with pad controllers? I personally use mine for normal shit. I assume you're talking about people who use them for crazy loops and effects and crap, but it's perfectly possible to use almost any controller for "normal" performance and mixing. And that includes controllers without jogwheels. [editline]27th June 2012[/editline] Also you really only said you had a problem with people who do it at shows in that post.
I don't have an issue with controllerists who can respectfully run a show. The problem is for every ONE who does it well, I feel like there's a million of these: This person is LITERALLY doing what I do at my studio almost every night; It's not skillful, nor is it anything inventive. You seem to think I have an issue with EVERYONE who uses a midi controller, which I don't. I just feel that if you aren't MELTING BRAINS with your performance, get the fuck in line and mix songs. Whether DJ or controllerist, do your job and play a consistent set, it's not hard to do that. This is something that I feel is not only impressive, but works well at shows: Dude performed recently at a battle I competed in, and did a great job. Bout 6 songs, all of which were done LIVE, and done smoothly.
There's a lot of bullshit partially because the technology is new, and it's cheap. A big reason there are far less crappy turntablists (they're out there) is because the gear is more expensive in general. "My beef is with people who show up with a fucking CONTORLLER WITH ONLY PADS, and think they're "in the mix", or whatever bullshit." It's these kinds of generalizations, especially on the part of oldschool vinyl DJ's, that really bother me. Using a certain type of controller does not automatically mean that someone is going to DJ a certain way with it. [editline]27th June 2012[/editline] The video you posted is a good example. Doing tracks live like that is a good way to say, "look, I'm skilled but I'm not going to butcher a song".
The video you posted is a good example. You can show skill demonstrate practice, ans STILL let people enjoy the music. WUB WUB WUB NEEDS TO STAY OUT OF THE FUCKING HIP HOP CLUBS.
Thoughts? It looks pretty cool but for $100 + the $200 for a 10' LED strip, I was thinking I might pick up an Arduino and make one myself.
lmao paris hilton's dj DEBUT IS HERE
