Or you can ignore what everyone else says and does and modify your guitar that you DO own. You can get a set of stacked humbuckers for about 80 bux for one. That, stick it in your bridge[which is the one farthest from the neck] although this requires soldering skills. Soldering is quite simple, you just have to know how to do it correctly. But for that guitar I wouldn't worry about messing it up.
So, go to your local guitar shop, they must sell pickups too, ask for a "Hot Rails" by seymour duncan and you'll be set.
You can also get a shitty knock off of the hot rails called the Duncan Performers for like 40 bux but obviously half the price half the quality. But it will give you more fuzz than crunch.
Dude said he wanted a new guitar, I suggested things around what he wanted. Modifying isn't always the best option anyway. You can polish a turd, but it's still a turd.

hahaha
Although that was a good suggestion Leat. But my guitar right now; the picks up are actually falling out and when i screw them in more they come out more and hit the strings, so kind of broken.
I was almost in the same place as you. In the end I got a Epiphone Les Paul. Let's just say the mere difference in sound and feel make you more motivated to play and learn.
