Wasn't Prince of Persia the first decent one? I heard good things of it.
So generic zombie apocalypse is original now? HL has a decent story, but it only really got formed in the second installment, and then they started plotholing it up. Valve has been very clear that it is a constructed experience and not so much a coherent artistic narrative.
Gameplay wise, L4D is indeed pretty original (for a shooter), but it's marred by the fact half of it doesn't work. But HL2 is stuck 12 years in the past in terms of gameplay.
The L4d story is great because of the lack of a coherent story, just bits and bobs in a few levels. There is nothing about Halo that is special, at all. *Crosses my arms*
No.
Who's to say that Halo, nor Half Life existed. Then all of a sudden two different movies based on the same story line as both games hit theaters. Which story line would people like the most?

If we're talking about actual stories, then Half Life. I mean, story wise, the movie would be about the same as the game. And between the two, Half Life is the only one to have a real story.
That's just ignorant. Halo is big because of its story. The whole multiplayer craze wasn't until Halo 2.

Exactly, and now it would depend on the director to recreate it.

Don't get me wrong, I love L4D, but even when you look into the "hidden story" its nothing special.
L4D is a pretty bad argument for story purposes.
And, while I love Halo, I can admit to its story being less than great. Why does this matter to you people so much? If you like a game, you like, if someone else doesn't like it, who cares. Get the fuck over it.

I always thought it was good because if you wanted a story, it's there. But if you just wanted to kill zombies and not have a story stuffed down your throat, then you can just ignore the bits of what's being said and just shoot shit.

I'm not saying it was a bad way of handling it, I like it like that for just that reason. But even when you look into the story, its not a particularly intricate one.

Yeah, true, there isn't a whole lot going on there. But I imagine it'd be difficult to have a truly intricate story present while keeping the game the way it is now.
It's a terrible series/universe, I'll end it at that.
It's a terrible series/universe, I'll end it at that.
"I don't like this game series, so its terrible"
Oh, the logic of an ignorant anti-fan.

In no way do I disagree, while, yes, I do think the story is simple, its better that way.
Its a simple kind of story that allows the player to fill in the gaps on his own.
That trailer was pretty awesome.
I think they should make a Halo movie, but about a squad of Marines or something.
....I enjoy the games but sometimes they don't seem as deep as they should be, I blame that on them being primarily console games.
What does that have to do with ANYTHING? Console games and PC games have no difference in story telling. In fact, since Nintendo has Zelda, consoles are probably better at it. Not wanting to start a flame war, but you are a blind sheep.
.....However in Halo, when the elites side with the humans, you will still fight elites. Bungie couldn't replace them with anything?
I believe you are delusional, sir. That doesn't happen. When the humans side with the Elites, they stop fighting. Where did you pull that idea out of?
Don't get me wrong, Source is a pretty good engine, but Valve don't know how to fix bugs (lolo takes 4 months to tweak a variabl) and they can't code game logic for shit.
You're thinking of DICE there, buddy.
Bad Company 2 has some pretty good stuff, not perfect but better than so many other things.
I've never really gotten this argument whatsoever. I liked all three game series: Half-Life, Halo and BioShock... hell, to be fair, BioShock was my LEAST favourite of the three (however I did still enjoy it).
Actually give some EVIDENCE as to how Halo's story line is unimaginative.
Honestly, if it IS unimaginative please give me a list of other games that revolve around megastructures that are actually weapons of unimaginable destruction designed to purge the galaxy of a parasitic alien species (by killing its food source), and which also have an interstellar war at their core which, fuelled by religion, threatens to activate these megastructures under the misguided belief that they're essentially portals into heaven. Really, if there are other games LIKE THAT out there I'd really love to play them. So by all means, tell me of those games.
Oh, and then on top of that: mid-story the bad-guys have their own civil war break out which throws things into even more disarray. Making the previously bad-guys become good-guys was pretty neat, instead of doing what every other game or movie seems to do: good guys turn bad. Bungie made it happen vice-versa.
For the amount of love that BioShock got I felt kind of duped. Fun as it was, it didn't live up to all the hype that it got in the gaming world for me. The game play was pretty fun, and the environments were neat, but the story was a little empty in my opinion and dragged on somewhat. The twist about Fontaine was quite good and spruced things up a bit again, but then towards the end it started to run out of steam once more.
Fan though I am, I understand that Halo is not a special, unique gem amongst science fiction universes.
In the world of sci-fi...
1. Many stories feature an ancient, highly advanced extinct/absent civilization in their stories, and often use it as a plot device. See the Stargate and Ringworld series.
2. Many stories feature humanity as being a special race that made it off Earth and into the stars by their own merits. See Mass Effect (I think), the Uplift series by David Brin, the Ringworld books, Star Trek, Doctor Who (The canon is a mess though) and like a shitload of others.
3. Not as many, but still a number of, stories entail humanity being the heirs or descendents of said civilization from number 1.
Go check out the TVtropes articles on Halo and the other sci-fi series for more info in general. It's a good site, and if you don't mind your favorite universe(s) getting holes shot through them, it's really cool.
Edit: Somebody also mentioned the fact that video game to movie adaptations (and vice versa, I think) don't always do so well is because of the differences in storytelling. Although I understand why movies tend to make bad games (Or rather know that they do and blindly accept that, and never EVER buy a movie game) I don't entirely see why you couldn't do a movie like a video game, from a first-person perspective. I think a movie like that would be cool. Cloverfield was a bit like that, actually...

BF2 was better IMO.
A Halo movie?
Sure, with Michael Bay as director. I'm betting those two would go great together...
...And at the very least, keep Bay tied up ruining something that doesn't matter...

Why is it that if someone hates a piece of fiction so much, they will further deliberately expose themselves to the fiction and its fans in order to state their opinion to said fans, who really couldn't give a shit?
NO a halo movie would be awful and make me cry :,-(
Why should it? Game movies suck. No exceptions.
Oh yeah
One name: Uwe Boll. :argh:
Hitman was really good.....
It was going to be but then it was cancelled and became district 9 instead
To me, any movie with any of the Spartans probably won't be very exciting. They'd blow everything up, save the day, and none of them die because they're too 'badass', or the only people to die are non-spartans. To me, at least, It's not that interesting to watch a movie where the heroes are in no real danger.
I'd watch one focusing on the marines., though
No.
Too much money would be made.
that was a great commercial.
[editline]02:02PM[/editline]
and Halo is not movie worthy, IMO.
Halo has the shittiest story line I have ever had the torture of playing.
No.
Hopefully microsoft will try to suck halo for all its worth, and make a movie in the process
apparently bungie told Microsoft to fuck off an after reach that's the last halo game the Microsoft have rights to :S, an then they are planing to release the whole lot for ps3 an wii :S an TRY to have cross console connection between xbox an ps3.... doubt it will happen but there you go
