Had a great shooting day with my father's family, totally hooked. What we shot: S&W SW9VE and a .22 LR Rimfire, a ruger cx4 storm (lovely little riffle), Sig Sauer .45 (first time shooting a .45), Romanian AK47 (another first), and the ubiquitous Winchester .22. So nothing super special, but great none the less. Thinking about buying the Mosin Nagant 91/30, from aimsurplus, my only bolt action is a .300 sav which can get expensive to shoot but I still love it. Haven't used an MN or an SKS, but I know I don't like the AK's sights. Based on that which do you think would be better for me? A Mosin, or an SKS.
Personally I dont see a reason to own a gun besides that they are "cool" the chances of you needing one are pretty slim.
I don't need a reason, it's my personal freedom to choose to own firearms.
How slav do you want to look?
Tito-slav: Gonna have to buy a new suit...

Last night my carry firearm saved my bacon. I was working graveyard and frequently ride a bike to work. No traffic, good WX, nice ride, etc etc. Well a couple of bozos came along side of me and clubbed me in the left temple with a liter glass bottle. My bike helmet took most of the impact. They came at me again and the passenger leaned out of the car and hit me again with an unknown object. They came from behind both times and I had no prior warning of the attack. I was dazed from the bottle and thus missed the second pass. The car slowed down and came to a halt up the road 100' or so. At this time I fired a round into the air. I did not fire at the car. In my state you can only shoot to protect your life and if I had hit someone while they were in the car the survivor would simply say I shot at them with no provocation, etc etc. The nature of the confrontation changed instantly. The passenger of the car jumped out facing me. I lined up the sights and started to nail him between the running lights and he turned and ran away. The car hesitated just long enough for me to get a partial license number and took off. I recovered enough of the bottle for the possibility of prints. However the police seem to take it as routine. I looked at is as an assault with a deadly weapon, (the bottle launched at my skull) shots fired, etc. I have a hunch there will be no arrest or investigation. The incident seemed more routine than a fender bender to the officer who took the report. Oh well thank god for concealed carry. Cheers:
However there are after-market sights you can get for the SKS to give it ghost-ring sights. There's a similar system for Mosins as well.
So does anybody have any ideas on when my .22 was made? (see above post)

I did like the sights on the CX4, which, judging by the pictures on the two sites you linked, is somewhat similar.
I got a very old Star arms side by side shotgun. there is no rust on it and all the parts move smoothly, would it be safe to shoot it?
I got a very old Star arms double barreled shotgun.
Please call it a side by side. Really annoys me when people call a shotgun a double barrel.
I got a very old Star arms side by side shotgun. there is no rust on it and all the parts move smoothly, would it be safe to shoot it?
Ohh, that's real pretty! I'd take it to a gunsmith first, always a good idea to have one check out an older firearm.
Please call it a side by side. Really annoys me when people call a shotgun a double barrel.
Isn't it technically a double barrel?
Isn't it technically a double barrel?
Yes, but there are also over/unders.

I'm getting a Nagant for Christmas apperently.
I traded my Mac 11 clone and a bunch of other random nongun related shit for this baby. It's an Egyptian Hakim chambered in 7.9x57mm (8mm Mauser), it's in great condition, all matching, and complete down to the springs holding the screws in. He also threw in a box of mystery surplus 8mm (I'm guessing Yugoslavian) for free, and it came with a bayonet. I'll get better pics of it tomorrow. I haven't shot it yet but by far this thing has the most interesting action I've ever seen on a rifle. To operate it you push the dust cover forward until it covers the bolt and you hear a click, then you pull the cover and bolt all the way back and depending on if there is a round in the mag or not, it will either slam forward, chambering a round, or lock rearward (if it is on safe, it will stay back). The quality of workmanship is also ridiculously high, the gun is better built than any other military rifle I own.
That looks epic :v:
I'm itching to shoot my AK47, gah. Also, do you guys think this is a good buy? http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/AMM642-5.html

Holy tits. Imagine the shipping, but thank you!
Holy shit. Want.
Too bad that brass isn't reloadable - then again, it's only 180 bucks so who cares
It's sort of depressing when you think that I know all this crap about American gun laws, surplus guns and ammo, tacticooling your ARs and AKs...and I'm Australian.
I'm sick of Glocks. Everyone talks about them. How about a Browning Hi-Power?
Apparently pretty good according to one of my friends (second year gunsmith student, usually knows what he talks about)
So many pretty guns. Few questions though. I'm on the edge about hunting, seeing as my dad thinks near nobody should own a gun(with good reasons), and I myself see most hunters as people who just shoot at moving things and barely use any of the meat. What animal exists in surplus, and is hunted via rifle?
Deer, Elk, Boar, Rabbits, Hare, T-Rex, Moose, Wolverines and Fox atleast. Fox meat might not be edible though. Also, most hunters I know hunt both for the meat and the experience. So they rarely shoot more than 5-8 shots a year while hunting. Not all hunters are wannabe Rambos that want an excuse for shooting at something.
Not all hunters are wannabe Rambos that want an excuse for shooting at something.
I think it's safe to say that most hunters aren't like that. When I go hunting, I go for the meat, even a bad cut of venison is better than a good cut of beef in my opinion. I find beef to be tough and tasteless, but venison is soft, juicy and full of flavor.
guns are banned in australia. i hate you all!
There is a super secret way to get guns in Australia. Own a farm and say you have kangaroo problems.
