Good news!
AB 962 has been struck down in a California court as unconstitutional. They said the definition of "handgun ammo" was too vague.
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=385930
AB962 was going to go in effect in about a week or so and it would have banned the purchase of "handgun" ammunition online, additionally requiring fingerprints and paperwork for the purchase of "handgun" ammo in stores. The vague definition of "handgun" ammo under the law would have let it apply to rifle calibers (but not shotgun ammunition) such as 5.56 or .308 or 7.62x39mm as well as calibers like .22LR that are frequently used in both rifles and handguns. This would have created a situation where gun dealers wouldn't be certain of the law, letting the DOJ take away FFL licenses and prosecute owners when they inevitably sold that box of 6.5mm Swedish (because some jackass somewhere has a Thompson TC in that caliber).
well, that's good. the only place to really buy ammo here is walmart (lol) and i doubt with the understaffing they would bother with doing all of the fingerprinting shit
The ammo prices aren't bad, just the ammo it uses is pretty shit.
And you can SBR PS90s pretty easily.
Why would you SBR a PS90? 5.7x28mm is very damn close to 5.56mm frpm a 16" barrel PS90, it surpasses SBR'd AR15s for sure.
You can actually out-perform 5.56mm with the PS90's barrel with the lighter bullets.
To anyone who thinks 5.7 sucks... 5.56mm does too, especially from those AR15 pistols, they're weaker than the five seven handgun.
I wouldn't mind owning a PS90...aside from that damn ugly barrel, and the ammo that i assume is pricey :(
$21 for 50 rounds is the norm.
Pretty middle-of-the-road price wise, since there's no "practice" ammo available. It's all defensive/hunting ammunition. I.E. Top shelf ammo.

Be sure to buy one used for 500-600$ (maybe more if it has extras) and make sure it's serial number starts with 580 or 581. Those are the new ones and their accuracy is a vast improvement over the old 180-190 series. Th e older ones are still good but the uber thin barrels let them down. I'd buy one of those if someone offered me one for sub-400$ and then I'd start looking into accuracy upgrades like an accu-strut.
I advise you to buy used because there are tons of people out there who buy them and decide that they'd prefer an AR or an AK and they end up selling them off with a very low round count. Or they are disgusted because they expect the new minis to shoot sub-MOA.
And to be honest compared with it's competitors like the SU-16 and Saiga the Mini isn't quite as good in terms of value for money. But I just really, really liked it so I bought one. I suppose getting a gun that you like more is worth spending an extra hundred or so dollars on.

The accuracy issues aren't likely to hinder anyone who would be reading this forum.
It's just stringing due to the barrel heating up, creating more whip. Cold barrel shots will be dead on, then shots will start to land higher as more rounds are fired. My PSL does this, and it's not hard to just aim an inch lower every additional shot inside of a minute.

At least we have semi-automatics without military properties :downs: here in Norway.

But it's still based of looks, considering anyone can modify a gun to "tactical cop killer gun" without much work.
I love the .357 Magnum. Fire .38 so well.

Which is to be expected because you can get surplus G3 mags for like 1$ each in the US. So everyone who owns a G3 clone owns a huge box of mags for it.
I'd love a .308.
An AR-10 or an RFB would be great.

That's about how many mags the average person should have per gun.
I'm trying to amass a large amount of PSL mags, so far I'm up to 5 that I've managed to salvage. It's just so hard to find ones that aren't rusted through. And to make matters worse, most of them have to be fitted to the rifle.
Then again, I prefer fitting stuff myself.
People say not to fit them because there was 4 made unique to each rifle and that someone out there needs your magazine, I say fuck them, they can go pay the $$$ and spend their time restoring these things their selves, I'm not selling them.

After you saw what happens when you have to clear a failure with an RFB, you wouldn't want it any more.
The ejection tube is curved, if you dump 2 live rounds into it recoil can cause the bullet to bump the primer of the round in front of it and blow your gun apart. They jam/malfunction frequently unless you use top shelf ammo. I'd highly recommend only running tipped rounds through it, such as the V-Max or barnes TTSX, gives you a little more piece of mind in that event.
AR-10 is about as good as it gets, especially if you want to build something on the cheaper end that can make dime sized groups out to 200 yards.
Jesus that sounds horrible.

Can someone give me the lowdown on Australian recreational gun laws real quick? My family owns a massive property full of rabbits and whatnot, and I want to stew some of the buggers :v: if one of the factors is age, I'm 16.
Do they actually use the land for anything? If so, they might qualify as primary producers (possibly you too, I'm not sure if you can that young) so you could get a cat C and the fun stuff that goes with. Failing that Cat A is really all you need for popping rabbits, unless you intend on doing so from more than about 50 metres away. I would imagine it would be possible to get one for 'pest control' or the like pretty easy.

If I'm recalling correctly and the PTR series are all new-production, they are the only G3/CETME-family rifles you should be looking at. People tend to think of parts kits as 'new' but they absolutely are not, and nine times out of ten you have no way of telling what condition the rollers and receiver trunnions are in. You may get a fairly new rifle or you might get one that's down to +6 rollers (something you really don't want) and should really have been either totally overhauled or chucked, and since roller-locking actions don't headspace the way locking-bolt actions do, it's quite hard to find out exactly how soon you're going to want your rifle seen to. I doubt many (if any) civ shooters would put enough rounds through to take a new roller-locked rifle down to the +6 rollers but quite often those parts kits are already on them when they come into the country.
The roller-locking design is mostly useful on military weapons where overhauls and refits are both fairly common and fairly easy; MG42 crews used to carry spare bolts for when the rollers were starting to wear. As a civilian, you don't really have this luxury and it costs you to get the same level of maintenance as a soldier would. Aside from that, all ROF benefits are totally lost on anyone who doesn't have whatever license it is to get legal full-autos.
Honestly? Buy a FAL or derivative thereof. Better rifle, better build quality, better ergos, and you don't need to worry about fiddlefucking around with calipers and fiddly tools to work out if your rifle is actually safe to fire or not.
