How about I go out and buy a 1886 revolver and put a plastic stock, scope, and custom sights on it just to piss you off? :v:
Sure, if you want to fuck yourself out of a whole bunch of money and forever be mocked for doing so!
It warps with heat and stops the weapon functioning properly, it is far more brittle than metal and is easily damaged, it wears down far quicker. If the Steyr's FCG wasn't made of plastic, it would be a far more reliable weapon. Don't get sarky like you know better than he does when you clearly don't.
The plastic parts on a Steyr are made from THERMOSETTING plastic and fiberglass, it DOES NOT MELT OR WARP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermosetting_polymer

It is a commonly known fault that the FCG wears very rapidly. We know it, ADI knows it, apparently everyone but you knows it. Also, if you think thermosetting plastic is somehow immune to the expansion every other material known to man undergoes with enough heat, you're kidding yourself.

Can't we talk about guns instead of whining about plastic?
In fact the best part is that if you'd read that article properly, it basically agrees with experience. The plastic won't melt easily but it will warp slightly with enough heat, and 'slightly' is all it takes. Also it is brittle as fuck. [editline]26th January 2011[/editline]
And what exactly is your job?
Infantry rifleman, how about you?
Infantry rifleman, how about you?
In the ADF? I doubt that
In the ADF? I doubt that
Would you like me to post my Army ID? What are you, five fucking years old? [editline]26th January 2011[/editline]
You're still kind of acting like a dick. Oh sorry, I mean you're acting like a dick, sir.
I work for a living, I'm not a sir. And frankly, I don't give a fuck about acting like a dick to people who think firing the Steyr once makes them a world leading authority on it.

And frankly, I don't give a fuck about acting like a dick to people who think firing the Steyr once makes them a world leading authority on it.
I met a couple guys from 8th/9th who wouldn't say a thing against (beside that lack of rails for all the extra bits) the F88. It would seem though that you are actually in the Royal Australia Infantry By that I'm saying most people in the ADF don't share your view I think I'm done trying to argue this, internet arguments don't mean shit anyway
A handful of 8/9 guys does not constitute "most people in the ADF". In my experience opinions are mixed, I personally do like the F88 despite its many drawbacks as it's comfy to shoulder and fire and easy to handle, but the reliability issues are known facts to everyone and they do happen. Just so we're totally clear,
This is ridiculous.
This is ridiculous.
Apparently russmum is allergic to plastic and is complaining about it being in his guns.
Apparently russmum is allergic to plastic and is complaining about it being in his guns.
I like the part where apparently reliability is as unimportant to the military as it is to civilians, since you seem surprised I'm complaining about a lack of it.
I like the part where apparently reliability is as unimportant to the military as it is to civilians, since you seem surprised I'm complaining about a lack of it.
 Go complain to the military if your opinion is so strong you're willing to take up a page of Facepunch to try to convert people to your anti-plastic ways.
This is a firearms discussion thread and I'm discussing firearms. I don't see the problem, aside from you being oversensitive to people hating on poor design choices.

You are discussing firearms in an incorrect manner. Arguments are not discussion. Now let's start a new topic. Euh... SCOPES! Everybody loves scopes. Explain the primary differences between an ACOG scope and a normal optical sight.
Does anyone have any tips for precision shooting? I'm part of my high schools rifle team, and I need some tips for standing while shooting and getting comfortable kneeling (I have knee problems)
you backpedal way too much.
I just want peace, is all. :smith:
lol you're a private
yeah it's great. it means when someone else fucks up it's not my fault
yeah it's great. it means when someone else fucks up it's not my fault
Dude, drop it already. Chill out so at least everyone else may feel inclined to as well. Seeing as this thread is more about firearm discussion, what are your opinions on the Ruger 10/22? Fuck it, I'm going to sleep.
It's neat I guess but I wouldn't know since I've never fired one, I've seen opinions ranging the full spectrum although that seems to be something to do with an apparent steady decline in build quality (I have this like, third hand at best, so this is by no means fact)
Knee details please.
This is basically what it looks like. Putting pressure on my knee hurts for some reason and i'm uncomfortable, which is distracting me and causing me to shake.

If not, do some stretches. Lots of stretches every night.
