new jersey reporting in :suicide: [editline]28th January 2011[/editline] i hate it here.
Ohio here, our laws are pretty good, my only complaint is that we have a ban on magazines over 30 rounds. [editline]28th January 2011[/editline] Actually, its not a ban on magazines per say, you can own a 75 round drum magazine for, say an AK rifle, but if you put more then 30 rounds in the magazine in it, is becomes illegal, at least thats how I understand it. Could be wrong.
We were talking about this in History class the other day. I think it only applies to pistols and concealed guns.
We were talking about this in History class the other day. florida is one of the friendliest gun states :fsmug:
The guy in the first pic as a bigass gun
I don't really know that much about guns, but I asked my Ukrainian friend about the Obrez Nagant, and aparently Obrez means super short or something similar.
Hope you've had a lot to drink, cause you are going to blow a huge load over this... http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=b97_1296268208
Posting my 1876 Winchester chambered in 45-60. It's my wall hanger. It does nothing but take up space and look just damn sexy at it. It was given to me by my dad, who had it given to him by his Great Uncle. I have not fired it, nore have I ever come across any rounds for it. The only research I ever did on was when it was made. And that was May of 1886.

It's about $2.50 per shot so I wouldn't get too trigger-happy. They wanted to chamber it in the government issue .45-70 round but the action of the gun wasn't very strong which was OK for handgun cartridges but not so good for such a thumper of a caliber. So they introduced some proprietary weaker calibers to replicate it performance-wise. When John Browning came along he redesigned the Winchester rifle creating the 1886 which was strong enough to fire such powerful calibers, rendering the 1876 and all of its proprietary weaker calibers obsolete.
Went to a gun show today. It was pretty cool, but some of the prices there are just insane. Also, got a knife there: [img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/IMAG0107.jpg[/img_thumb]
How was Tanner? I didn't know it was this weekend until around 2pm, and chose not to go.
It was pretty crowded there. My first time there, so it was pretty interesting seeing the large variety of weapons [editline]29th January 2011[/editline] Also, someone should recommend me a first gun, preferably not a .22
Well when I'm 18 I can only get a rifle or shotgun, so one of those
you can buy a pistol in a private sale
you can buy a pistol in a private sale
Explain... :v:
Explain... :v:
Buying from a person that isn't a dealer
Ah, so I could go up to a private booth and just buy a handgun?
I dunno, probably best to buy from a friend or something
Ah, so I could go up to a private booth and just buy a handgun?
check out these websites: www.flaguns.com www.floridashootersnetwork.com www.floridaguntrader.com if the person selling the gun isn't a FFL dealer then it's considered a private sale, and you can buy a handgun in a private sale if you're 18+ it's perfectly legal but keep in mind that a lot of people don't know that, or they don't feel comfortable selling a pistol to anyone under 21
Ah, so I could go up to a private booth and just buy a handgun?
At a gun show, no. You still have to get a background check. There is no "gunshow loophole". Check out local forums and see if you can organize a face to face sale with someone whom you are interested in buying from.
anyone have a walther p22 [editline]29th January 2011[/editline]
At a gun show, no. You still have to get a background check.
not necessarily you don't in most states
Alright, thanks a lot.
Well when I'm 18 I can only get a rifle or shotgun, so one of those
I'm not sure why you're so set against a .22 rifle. I still think that's the best way to go but it's your money. You shouldn't get anything too insanely powerful or else you might develop a flinch which is a really bad habit for shooting in general. Shotguns are very useful overall but for that reason they might not be ideal. If you get a shotgun though, get a Mossberg 500 combo (300$). You'll get the gun in a 5+1 shot configuration with an 18" barrel and a 28" barrel that you can swap. This gives you one gun that you can use for a lot of things. 18" for home defense/riot/blasting bottles and 28" for hunting/trap/skeet/blasting more bottles. Or you can just sell one of the barrels for some money back. Also they sometimes come with a pistol grip that you can swap with the stock. Sell it, give it away or throw it in the trash. Stockless shotgun configurations are a pain in the ass to shoot. If you get a rifle you've got quite a few choices to work with. You can get a Hi-Point 9mm carbine (250$) which will give you a gun that has very little recoil and fires relatively cheap ammo. In a way it can be an analog for a .22 rifle only it'll be more powerful but the ammo won't be as cheap. Another choice would be a semi-auto rifle in an intermediate caliber like 7.62x39mm or 5.56x45mm. Something like an SKS (200-400$), AK (350-700$), AR-15(600-1500$), SU-16(450-550$) or Mini-14 (550-700$, be sure to get a 580 or 581 series). Each gun has pros and cons of it's own, some are more expensive, some are cheaper, some are more accurate, some are tougher, etc. Just know what variant you're looking at and what it's worth, like a Chinese SKS won't be as expensive as a Russian one. Also if you get an AK in 5.45mm you can get surplus ammo dirt cheap for it, literally 12 cents a round. But there's no guarantee this influx of surplus ammo will last.
Alright thanks man, I'll probably get an AK or SKS. Could you recommend me which country's version to get? (yugoslavian, chinese, romanian, etc.)
With AKs you get what you pay for. Century makes some out of a mix of surplus parts kits and US-made (mediocre quality) parts so they are very hit-or-miss. If you're going to buy one of those buy it in person and inspect it carefully before putting your money down. Saigas are about the same price and they are of very good quality because they are actually imported from Russia but you might not be satisfied with their appearence and while you can convert them with pistol grips and the ability to take standard AK-pattern magazines (for the 7.62x39mm and 5.45x39mm versions) that will require spending more money on parts and it is possible to mess it up. Arsenal AKs are of very good quality and they're nice and scary-looking but they cost more. There are a number of other manufacturers but I can't remember them or their prices off the top of my head right now. With SKS rifles you have Albanian, Yugoslavian, Romanian, Chinese, East German and Russian. I don't know where the Albanian and Romanian ones rank, but from personal experience I'd recommend inspecting any Yugo 59/66 very closely before buying it. You'll run into a lot of those because they are the only version of the SKS still being imported. Yugo 59/66es have no chrome lining which made their barrels very susceptible to rapid wear, especially if the former users used that grenade launcher frequently. Some are unissued and are in great shape, others are really worn out. I say avoid them. The nifty new features either don't work or are just useless added weight. The Yugo 59s are just regular SKS rifles. Chinese are also hit or miss. The earlier production they are the better. Later models were made for civilian markets so the QC isn't quite as good. But at least they all have chrome lining. Then we have Russian models, they are very good but very expensive, usually selling for 400$ and up. IMO no SKS is worth more than 300$. East German models have been spotted too but they are very rare and expensive. The only SKS worth spending more money on is the Chinese SKS-M or SKS-D. They were made for the US civilian market but they take standard AK-47 pattern mags. I still wouldn't spend much more than 500$.
