Just wondering, do they still make Mini-14's like this?
Just wondering, do they still make Mini-14's like this? [img_thumb]http://www.myateamvan.com/images/mini14.jpg[/img_thumb]
No. That stock was sold exclusively to military and police back when it was made. In fact that stock is not original to that gun, the military/police versions had a distinctive long thick barrel version with a flash hider and bayonet lug. For instance this is a Mini-14 GB. They also used that stock on the AC-556K. Note the fire selector near the rear sight and the short barrel. Strangely enough this side-folding stock was NOT available as standard on the full-size AC-556. From your picture the gun that sits in it is a 180 or 181 series (note the single ramped blade, wooden handguard and the ultra thin barrel). Wooden handguards went out of production very early on. They currently use a distinctive black plastic hanguard that covers the slide (so it doesn't bite your fingers). Thin-barrel (180/181/182/etc.-190) Mini-14s went out of production in the mid-2000s. They have since been replaced with redesigned thick-barreled 580 and 581 series. Why it took so long for Ruger to sell thick barrels to civilians I don't know (they didn't want civilians to have accurate guns?) but today there is no distinction between civilian and police variants. Aftermarket stocks are available for the Mini-14 though. Note the thicker barrel profile and the front sight which is more like the GB version.
Remind me of the A-Team.
Remind me of the A-Team.
Funny you should mention that. The A-Team was famos for using Minis. But the Mini 14 actually sees a lot of use in various Hollywood movies and shows for a set of reasons. One of them being that it can run blanks without jamming or stovepiping, in fact it's industry nickname is the "Jamless Wonder". It's also affordable, so they are actually cheaper to buy en masse than dedicated blank-firing guns or replicas. The base model is CA legal which means there's less paperwork and hassle involved in procuring them. And there's a nifty aftermarket "Muzellite" stock that makes it look like a futuristic bullpup. In reality that stock kind of sucks but it has been used as the starting point for Morita from the Starship Troopers and it has been used directly in a whole bunch of other movies. Again, the key advantage being that they don't have to reshoot a take where an actor fires off a number of consecutive shots hundreds of times because his gun keeps jamming AND now they can have that convenience in a sci-fi setting. http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Ruger_Mini-14 GOOD NEWS I found a store that carries police trade-in Mini-14 GBs for 500$. They can be rough but accuracy-wise they're almost as good as a 580 series. Plus they're about 150$ cheaper. Also GBs usually trade hands for like 700$ and up so this is a steal.
I dunno man, something like this is still wrong: @ Gunfox
This is wrong yes. But why do you flip when I actually make the gun more practical.
You live in Canada and you actually have a valid PAL? If so how did you manage to buy that gun while not knowing even the basics of Canadian gun laws...
I own both my restricted, non-restricted and prohibited PAL. In my line of work I am legally allowed to carry a firearm that exceeds the five round capacity. So next time you jump to conclusions and start insulting someone with no basis, do your research first. kthxbai
I don't understand the feverish defense of SKS's. They are not historically significant in any fashion. They started production in 1945 and were overshadowed just a few years later in 1949 with the AK-47. The only historically significant fact that makes the SKS interesting is the fact that the AK-47 raped it so thoroughly that massive numbers of the things wound up on the surplus market. If people want to mod the gun with modern tech, then let 'em. Now if they wanna take apart something like a Kar98k that saw service in WWII and is in good condition, then sure rip into them.
This is pretty much the reason I love the SKS. It's uncommon. Sure there are AKs, Springfields, or AR-15s, but I like the more obscure rifles. Yeah, those rifles are popular for a reason, but I prefer the SKS to the AK, the Krag to the Springfield, and the Ar-10 to the Ar-15.
A stupid question, since I don't know anything about these things. If I pointed a pistol diagonally, would the recoil kick the pistol back diagonally too?
A stupid question, since I don't know anything about these things. If I pointed a pistol diagonally, would the recoil kick the pistol back diagonally too?
The gun will most often recoil the opposite way of where you point it.
Boy, it sure is hard to find a decent .22 for a decent price in Finland. I really must drag my dad to the police station, so we can ask about the permits.
So you all said that the sub-2000 was good, but what do you guys think about kel-tec's SU-16 rifles?
The gun will most often recoil the opposite way of where you point it.
No, I mean if I hold it diagonally (halfway between that bullshit gangster thing and normal holding). Like, the slide pointing diagonally.
So you all said that the sub-2000 was good, but what do you guys think about kel-tec's SU-16 rifles? [img_thumb]http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/4796/keltecsu16.jpg[/img_thumb]
I shot an SU-16 CA version and it wasn't bad. I just didn't like the original sights and the gun felt a little flimsy. A year or two down the line when I was debating between it and other .223 rifles I went for the Mini-14 instead. But at least on paper it is a much better deal. I just wasn't sold on the build quality. If at all possible finger-fuck one at a gun store before buying it. Also be sure to buy it new because when they are sold used they lose their warranty.
Good or bad gun? Might get this for summer. [img_thumb]http://www.m1carbinesinc.com/beemanem1.jpg[/img_thumb] It's .22 Erma M1 carbine
My grandfathers friend was in World war two and said it was the worst gun he ever used and was only good for it lightweight
My grandfathers friend was in World war two and said it was the worst gun he ever used and was only good for it lightweight
Who in their right mind goes into a war with a .22?!
Who in their right mind goes into a war with a .22?!
The originals came in .30 Carbine
The originals came in .30 Carbine
The guy was talking about the .22 version
No, I mean if I hold it diagonally (halfway between that bullshit gangster thing and normal holding). Like, the slide pointing diagonally.
Yeah, and that means the gun will recoil diagonally. Even if you held the gun upside down, it would recoil downwards.
Finally got my 8x42D POSP today and sighted it in properly. What an absolutely amazing sight picture. Also took a picture of my saiga 12 with a few new tid bits since I had everything set up for pictures. Yes, it's tacticooled out, but it's not very heavy and it's actually really ergonomic, the magpul AFG is probably the best product ever made. When you fuck with it, it turns into a heavy, awkward to reload, and useless gun. The factory 10 round magazine with stripper clips is the fastest way to reload one, sadly very few people ever learn how to use a stripper clip right and opt for some cheaply poorly made magazine that's detachable. I can reload faster with stripper clips than you can with a detachable mag in your SKS. Also, the wood is lighter than any of the synthetic stocks available, so they all suck and only add weight. Optics aren't always bad if you drill and tap the receiver for a side rail and go with a proper russian optic. Dust cover optics are going to fail miserably on the SKS. I de-tacticalized my SKS and it's a much nicer and faster handling gun than it ever was before. I only leave the bayonet on it because it just looks right on there, instead of having a bare lug hanging down.
If people want to dick around with their cheap SKS it doesn't matter it doesn't effect you. calm down brah
No, it doesn't affect me. I'm just giving advice to people who may think that those modifications will improve the weapon in any way. In reality, it's like loading a few bags of concrete in your car's trunk then putting racing stripes on it, it just makes it slower but look cooler to you.
So after doing some "research" on Gubru like he asked, I find that he is a skinny 24 year old unemployed live at home furry. No I didn't make that up. Here's him dancing. So how exactly does that exempt you from firearms laws?
How about discussion different firearms other than Enfields and SKS's?
How about discussion different firearms other than Enfields and SKS's?
Start off a new discussion then silly goose
9mm or .45?
9mm or .45?
9mm +P+ all the way. People who claim 45acp is the king of all usually also say 357 magnum is the best thing ever. 9mm +P+ is an indiscernible way away from 357 magnum.
9mm or .45?
I think it depends on what you are doing. For open carry, I'd choose a single stack .45 over a double stack 9mm, but for concealing, I'd go down to 9mm. I was gonna say, "Aman V, personal attacks ain't cool", but after reading the above quote from gubru, I really don't care.

lahiti doesn't have shit on this.
