May i ask what that perforated half-tube on top of the barrel is?
Pump shotguns are dressed incorrectly unless they have a heatshield and bayonet lug. I mean, look at that fuckin' shotgun. I'm a rifle guy but goddamn do I have a burning desire for a trench gun (especially an 1897).
what
Some retarded US politician was asked if she even knew what the stuff she was pushing to ban was. After being asked about ten times what she thinks a barrel shroud is (all of which she dodged by spewing more bullshit in the vain hope that the guy doing the interview had the memory span of a goldfish) she finally answered 'I don't know, but...'
She unironically believes that a barrel shroud is a 'shoulder thing that goes up' (folding stock perhaps?) and that this, in some way, makes a weapon inherently more dangerous.
My politicians are pretty silly sometimes
No. No. Just no.
They are fucking retarded.
C-96 for $550 at cabelas.
Guess who's broke.
I think it's a bolo anyways. Can't tell, are the ones that have non-serrated grips necessarily bolos all the time?

It's so you don't burn yourself when you're gripping the top to jam the bayonet into someone's ribcage.
What do you gun gents think of the shows "Top Shot" and "Sons of Guns"?
What do you gun gents think of the shows "Top Shot" and "Sons of Guns"?
Both are stupid. Top shot forces participants to shoot weapons they never had experience with. It would be more interesting if they had to compete with other people in their expertise in doing the trick shots. Sons of Guns is just a terrible form of American Chopper. The show has all the drama, but no creativity at all.
What do you gun gents think of the shows "Top Shot" and "Sons of Guns"?
I watched like 20 minutes of Top Shot and they shot about 2 times. The rest was focused on one guy call another guy a rat fink
What do you gun gents think of the shows "Top Shot" and "Sons of Guns"?
I don't mind Top Shot, it can be interesting sometimes. But Sons of Guns is just not okay.
I picked up a lock for my.50 ammo can today and a mini ALICE-Pack for daily use. I don't care if people think I'm a fag, at least this one will last more then 2 months.
Top shot is a lot of drama, but it is pretty neat to see all the weapons they bring on. The events are a bit hyped up with all the slow-motion and explosions.
Sons of Guns barely has annnny drama, it's all jokes or 4 minutes arguments. Sometimes what they do is a bit silly, but it's pretty neat.
What do you gun gents think of the shows "Top Shot" and "Sons of Guns"?
They are both over dramatizing aimed at the lowest common denominator trash TV.
Son of Guns makes me rage more than the other though.
I wish i knew the names of things, Theres the little thing in front of the trigger to hold the action open, one of our 10/22's has a different one on it, and the action will close if you pull it back and let go, instead of having to fumble with the little lever thing.
But once again i have no idea what its called, but i guess midway or some gun parts place probably has them.
I know what you're talking about. That lever is a PITA, I've read the manual twice and I still can't figure it out perfectly.
Contrast my AR, which I could assemble from full strip in the dark, load, chamber a round and be ready to kick ass in less than a minute. I know that thing like the back of my hand. Conveniently, I have a Ruger AR as well as the 10/22... actually it's an SR556 upper on a JD Machine Tech A2 lower. But it works perfectly. I love it.
You left out the hours of frustration whilst tryinng to clean in in order to return it to the armoury.
The SAW on the otherhand I didn't thiink was too bad to clean, since you are able to break it down more you're able to clean more of it easily.
You must have had the most well-behaved SAW ever. I carried one during Army infantry OSUT and while it ran fine (except with STANAG mags), when it came time to clean it was the world's biggest PITA... I must have put 40 man-hours into cleaning that son of a bitch before I turned it in to the armory. I even had to take a fucking dremel to the gas tube to get all the goddamn carbon off. I think I burned through three packs of baby wipes and a box of Q-tips in the process, too...
That said, I absolutely *loved* my SAW, regardless of cleaning hassles. It was an absolute joy to shoot and I felt like the toughest motherfucker in the world humping it around. The M4 is great too, don't get me wrong. Hell, I have my own version (as mentioned) but there is nothing like a belt-fed full auto weapon to make you jizz in your pants.

I really don't see why it would matter. Maby if the gun itself had some type of historical significance I can see why, but other than that....

If I found a real cheap barreled action that had already been chopped and recrowned by Bubba, I would not hesitate for a second. It's not like you can make the rifle any less dignified by that point, and seriously, it's a fucking space nugget
On the other hand fuck anyone who would do that to a rifle that hasn't already been irreversibly fucked with.
I really don't see why it would matter. Maby if the gun itself had some type of historical significance I can see why, but other than that....
It's just not cool as far as I'm concerned. Some soldier relied on that rifle to keep him alive through fuck knows what and even if it is one of many million M91/30s out there, each rifle has its own story. I don't mind people modifying civ stuff but milsurp of any kind should only be modified out of necessity. I'd be kinda mad if I made it through a world war only to have some bubba hack my rifle up later and turn it into something unrecognisable. That said, if any of you ever winds up with an F88 Austeyr serialled AS 9418666, please proceed to put that fucker through a living hell. That'll teach you to go lemon on me every qual shoot and nearly blow up in my face you... you devil-numbered cunt :arghfist::jihad:
Aside from which, for every person that has no qualms with fucking the rifle up, that's one less intact rifle. Attrition will one day make even rearsenalled 91/30s worth decent money because they'll be so hard to find (but that day will be a long time coming; more pressing are rarer examples like G41s, G43s, etc).
Apparently you live in a world with no creativity, customization and ownership of opinion.
Equilibrium anyone?

Actually I live in a world of not pissing away money on fucking up a nice old rifle when you can buy newer rifles purpose designed like Lego kits.
There is not one single reason I would ever need to customise a milsurp rifle, much less want to. No point stripping down the stock because unlike most people I don't overstate the weight of a full-stocked rifle, no point chopping the barrel for the same reason (that and I don't intend to room clear with milsurp rifles), no reason to add optics because frankly it would be a waste of time and money on most of said rifles and no reason to krylon, gunkote or duracoat them because I actually give a fuck about weapons maintenance so bluing is enough (plus duracoat looks horrific on most older weapons).
Give me an AR parts kit (and a country where that's actually legal) and watch the weird and wonderful creation that emerges, but don't expect me to fuck with milsurp.
[editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
I mean, where things like 91/30s are concerned, it's something that I hate to see but given their prices I can only question the wisdom of doing it rather than say it's objectively stupid. That's reserved for the people who chop things like G43s, Ross rifles, and so on. In those circumstances, you're literally throwing away hundreds or potentially thousands just in the name of being an ~individual~. For instance, if you sporterise a G43, you instantly devalue it from the thousands to very little (unless you find a complete moron willing to buy it, as no collectors will touch it and that's where the big bucks lie). You aren't going to functionally improve it, or at least not to the level of a new, purpose-built sporting rifle. In fact you will almost never achieve this with any non-sniper WWII milsurp rifle; chopping and re-crowning will only get you so far. At the end of the day you still have a brick shithouse of an action which is usually pretty clunky and not especially ergonomic. Since people will cry about the weight of anything over 4lbs (or so it seems), this is obviously not ideal. Adding a scope without rebarreling or recrowning is stupid as hell and you're just throwing money away; even after doing one of those you're likely to only reach the same accuracy as most commercial sporting rifles, let alone surpass it. All this is after you've spent many hundreds of dollars in gunsmithing and parts. With an $80 Mosin this is still a questionable practice but with a $3,000 bringback G43 or similar it is outright retardation.
Basically, if you want to get a hunting or other sporting rifle, buy one. There is no reason to try and turn a beater infantry rifle into some kind of deer-murderin' tack driver rahful unless you are genuinely so poor that you can't afford even an entry-level sporting rifle. If you want to play gun Lego, buy an AR. If you want to enjoy shooting and/or owning a piece of history, buy a milsurp rifle.
That said I use the No.4 for hunting, target shooting, and plinking, and I still see no need to modify it. If it can kill Germans I'm pretty sure its default configuration will do just fine for anything up to deer size.
