Used an M1 Carbine in a re-enactment today. I think i'm in love, it'd be a great little plinker.
Too bad they're damn near impossible to get imported into my country.
Carbines are amazing, IMO. Still in production and the ammo's fairly cheap.
Damn shame you can't get one, though.
Here's something for all of us to cry about:

That seems like a good move for their country. The last fucking thing they need is more guns.
However, they may have been able to export them here...
Oh man that looks horrible,
Too bad most of those wouldn't meet importation requirements. :frown:
Actually Mikhail Kalashnikov hates the Saiga. Says it is a bastardization of his gun.
There's no difference between a saiga and any modern AK100 series weapon, once you do a proper conversion.
Yes, you could even drop in all the fun parts after you drilled the receiver for the axis pin. (Hell, my saiga 308 has a full-auto bolt carrier in it...)
He hates it because they ruined the trigger and made the gun as absolutely unbalanced as possible with their "sporter" configuration. In all honesty, after it's converted it shouldn't even be called a saiga.
Good luck getting a Russian built AK in the US that isn't a saiga. Arsenal SGL series guns are all just converted saigas.

I seriously want to go out and buy a crate of nuggets and just make each nugget worse than the last by butchering them just to see your reaction
I don't give a shit about mosins.
Now what optics they throw on them, yes I will bitch if they stick a wal-mart scope/red dot on ANY gun. I don't fucking care what gun it is. You'd have to be a dumbass to buy optics like that.
Cheap optics turn a usable rifle into pile of shit.

of course taking away their means of war is a bad idea, think about the guns feelings.
grow up.

This is why we have those nice G2 trigger conversions.
Also, I would like to cite the US's shit importation standards regarding foreign long arms.
What is a good gun for personal defence?
What do you mean? Home defense? Concealed carry? Would you prefer a longgun or a handgun?
Something I can put in my purse and threaten muggers with?
I know nothing about guns and stuff, I need guidance D:

there are plenty of loving countries outside the us they could've gone to.
failing that, museums.

purse carry is objectively inferior to concealed in pretty much every single way and downright pointless to boot, get a ccw/cpl/whatever your state calls it instead.
And now the end is near....
The End is Nigh!

So I'm at the gun show today. I'm saying to myself "Ridge, you have a good job now. You just made a few hundred bucks selling some gear. You deserve a nice toy!"
I say back "Fuck yeah I do! I want either a 12ga or a .308 bolt action!"
So I look around for a few hours, and find a booth that has a Remington 870 tactical for $375, AND a Remington 770 in .308 for $350. I like them both so much, but I can't decide!!!
After an hour or so, I finally make a decision and drop the cash....meet the whole family! :smug:

I want your guys opinion on this. What is a fairly cheap handgun (up to 400$) that fires relatively cheap ammo?

Probably either a cheap Taurus revolver in .38 special, or a Ruger revolver. I would take a Ruger over a Taurus personally.
38 special is relatively cheap and common.
Mind you at that kind of price you're not going to get a mindblowningly awesome handgun.
Just for plinking and the like?
9mm is a cheap ammo that is suitable for defense if necessary. I'd get a Taurus in 9mm. Hell, even a Hi Point pistol. They are ugly as sin, and somewhat heavy, but one of the most reliable pistols around...
Just straight up plinking would say .22, and there is a myriad of cheap .22s on the market, including clones of full size guns like the 1911, AR-15 and MP-5.

Not sure what my Father wants it for (asking the question for him), but my guess is mostly plinking. We already have a Garand, Mosin Nagant, a cheap Ruger 10/22 knockoff, and a Sig Sauer Mosquito.
If he's got a Mosquito and is looking for something else for plinking, perhaps step it up to a 9mm or .38.
-snip-
Pretty much what Ridge said.
Bye thread!
