Other than the obvious (size, recoil etc) What is the difference between Mauser 8mm, and Mauser 7.92mm? As it was the 7.92mm used in the 2WW but people here mention 8mm a lot. I'll hazard a guess, as the 7.92 Kurz was developed for rifles such as the Stg, I will presume the original 7.92 was developed for the K98K (Carbine variant), whilst the standard K98 used 8mm? Probably wrong but what the hey.
and the M39. Isn't this supposed to replace the M14 EBR..?
Am I the only one who thinks this looks absolutely foul? EDIT: Apparently not <3

Both the Mauser K98 and K98k fire the same 8mm bullet, as did the MG42, G43, FG42, etc. The STG44 fired the shorter 8mmK bullet, to my knowledge the only weapon ever made for that caliber.
Interesting, I knew the MG34/42, G43, FG42 etc all fired the same round. But I didn't know 7.92mm and 8mm were the same. Thanks :) I beleive some of the Volksturm rifles and other late war projects fired the short round as well as the Sturmgewehr.
Nobody cares about the differences between a clip and a magazine. If you were in the middle of a gunfight and a guy said "Toss me a clip!" would you be confused?

Thanks :) have a heart. I'm not too bad on the whole military history thing. Starting a degree in war studies soon :)
The early Chinese SKS models were quite good, which is the one I have, and it functions properly, had it jam once every 80 rounds put through it, what you say is not fully true and the Chinese version has less value than the others, but then again, it looks better finished than any of the Yugos i have seen.
Yes... Very big image incoming! My Type 56 SKS Without my 20 rnd mag In fact, it makes a good first rifle if you have the space to shoot it in.
Absolutely. My Tula SKS is my most prized semi-automatic rifle. I absolutely love it. Of course I keep mine using the internal mag, I don't like the external mags for the SKS.
btw zombiefreak sorry for not getting that list to you, haven't got around to actually even putting it together yet
Haha I had completely forgotten about that.

There's Norinco copies, Sino-Soviet and Chinese military Type 56 rifles. The Norincos are the bottom of the barrel, made solely for civilian sales and made very crudely, the Sino-Soviet SKS's are collectible and somewhat well made (for rifles built from parts anyway) these would be what you would consider "early" as they were the first SKS rifles produced by China, and the actual military Type 56s are rather well made, however they are far from the best. A Romanian, Russian, Albanian or Yugo is still your best bet, I'd personally go with Romanian if I was on a budget.
We just got a few hundred loaded SKS stripper clips and it was in a soviet container.
We just got a few hundred loaded SKS stripper clips and it was in a soviet container.
I have hundreds of M1 Carbine stripper clips :c00l:
I have hundreds of M1 Carbine stripper clips :c00l:
Clip brothers.
You're only saying that because you have one.
Yeah and i like it.
I have hundreds of M1 Carbine stripper clips :c00l:
Speaking of this, as .30 carbine as a general use / plinking round, how would you rate it on a scale of 1-10?
In general they're a waste of time and look really stupid, and I've yet to hear of a reliable high cap SKS mag, but whatever.
So it takes you 10+ Seconds to reload over me reloading in 5 Seconds, your preference. Also your preference.
"Early"? There's Norinco copies, Sino-Soviet and Chinese military Type 56 rifles. It might be an early commercial but has non blond wood characterized with a civilian SKS and it was imported without a bayonet because of restrictions. It also has no mention of Nornico or any english on the rifle for that matter, only the import mark is english. I just thought it could be an early civilian made import.
Yeah and i like it.
Mauser is superior. German engineering :c00l:
I'd love to even fire a gun, let alone own one. Damn english laws.
This is just an abomination.

If it was military it would classify as C&R and they wouldn't have had to remove the bayonet.
