So what are the different models of Mosin and ways to differentiate them, and what's "better" than the others? My father told me he went to a gun shop he frequents and they had quite a few Mosins for around $200 or less or something to that effect, and I want to know how to tell if it's worth it at all. I'm leaning towards yes, but I want to know we aren't about to be cheated or something.
Not worth it in any circumstance.

It was more expensive because the prewar ones were proably made better and because the Tula factory was taken over by the germans.
Well that's not really stupid, is it now?
I consider it to be, as I can buy things a lot more dangerous than that now. I understand the whole "concealing" thing, but with a little work you can conceal just about anything.
[editline]08:58PM[/editline] Be sure to remove all the cosmoline from the gun BEFORE firing. And if you get a sticky bolt there's instructions on how to remedy the problem online.
Oh yes, I won't forget. How do you recommend removing it? field stripping it and putting it in an oven? I understand it needs about 150F to melt the cosmoline.
I am the new proud owner of a Nagant 1938 Carbine. Unfortunately due to UK law, its deactivated, but it still cycles and it looks very nice on my wall. People spend £100 on paintings, I spend £100 on a rifle, same difference. Anyway is there any way of tracing the serial numbers to see when it was made etc?

Also last I checked it's legal to own working Nagants with the right license in the UK.
That may be the case but I don't have a license. edit Made in 1944, thanks MoD.
Ingen av delene er nummerriktige, alt er jo demontert og satt sammen. :v: Because of the Army disassembling them and putting parts in boxes for later reassembling, no of the parts match. The stock's marked 2 and the magazine follower is marked 64. :c00lbert: The 42 on the chamber means it is from Obersdorf (correct spelling?).
Oberndorf.
Capsman = Ole Johan? You're the guy that wanted to implement recoil powered semiautomatic mechanisms in bolt rifles?
Uhh, what's wrong with that? It's been done before, many times. The Germans even made a combination bolt action/semi automatic rifle that used a traditional Mauser style bolt in case the semi auto function failed.
I use one of those steam cleaner things and spray it down. The Cosmoline comes right off.
I wish I had one of those :(. I wonder if mom would be angry if I stuck it in her oven....
Is this considered a Firearm?
Capsman = Ole Johan? You're the guy that wanted to implement recoil powered semiautomatic mechanisms in bolt rifles?
No. I was the one that asked how that would work. I didn't say it was a good idea or efficent in any way. D:

I want this gun.
Oh, do tell us how the UBR stock turns out.
Before putting it on the gun, it felt very sturdy and was very heavy.

Herp derp you need to be 21 to buy pistols.
Scope for Mosin Nagant, Y/N?
Scope for Mosin Nagant, Y/N?
As long as it's the right scope.
As long as it's the right scope.
What defines the right scope? I was thinking about grabbing a scope mount that doesn't require drilling into the stock, and then picking up a scope for mine. I still want to keep the historical value, but make it suitable to my needs.
A scope that's meant to be on the rifle, don't sporterize it.

If you get one of those, you'll need a curved bolt. What model of Mosin do you have, again?
Fuck yeah
As much as I love PMAGS, I hate Magpul. Especially those stupid looking, strange feeling fore-grips they're making these days.

What model of Mosin do you have, again?
I just picked up mine yesterday, M91/30 hex receiver. I haven't shot it yet, it's caked in some sort of greasy shit. The guy who sold it to me told me it wasn't cosmoline, but I don't know how to clean the damn thing. Already checked the firing pin length, it checks out. I would love that scope, but I'm not sure I want anyone drilling into this beautiful stock. Cleaning tips? I don't have a steam cleaner, so thats pretty much out of the question. I really want to shoot it.
