I hate the klobb.
I just Went through the bolt on my saiga with a dremel tool and reprofiled it to be much flatter, then polished it to a glassy smooth mirror finish. Cycles infinitely smoother now, if anyone has a saiga and needs advice on doing this, PM me and I'll gladly walk you through it.
*Saiga sex*
I love you now.
I love you now.
You wouldn't believe how light the trigger is on this. It's actually a little bit too light IMO. Guessing it's around 2.5-3 pounds. Unintentional side effect of polishing everything.
Sorry I am late to this thread, but I saw "Redneck" and "Firearm" and I needed to make sure my avast anti-virus had bullet-proof capabilities.
Well wasn't it blued before, meaning you have a chance of rusting it?
Bluing wears off rather easily after just a few rounds. The steel used in these guns is not cheap pot metal, and even if the finish is completely stripped off every part of the bolt, it is not likely to rust unless you intentionally force it to. Highly polished steel is also less likely to rust than steel with a rough grain. In any case, surface rust will rub off the 1st time the bolt is racked, it would be nearly impossible for any amount that could cause function problems to actually build up. Not only that, but you should actually attempt to clean your weapons once in awhile. Lube your guns once a month, at least, even if you don't fire them.
Here is a pic from a class I did a month or so ago...I'll try to get a closer pic. [img_thumb]http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b100/89Sunbird/Shooting/71010-2s.jpg[/img_thumb]
The guy on the left. His fucking stance. That stance drive me insane.

Then again, my SKS has a polished steel bolt and it has barely any rust.

Those ATI sks stocks are junk. Adds a ton of weight to the gun. SGGW makes a halfway cool stock for the SKS, but it's a bullpup. It's apparently very functional and good quality.
yes but it handles nice shooting with alot more accuracy [editline]11:50PM[/editline] does look nice, big change for a sks

We'r expected to get our kit this winter, and we bought it about a year ago.
basterds heres the other

I've got an SKS stuck back in a closet some where. I'd take a dremel tool to that thing and take off everything that isn't necessary. Especially the bayonet.
even with the extras lot s of work was put in by me to restore it and make it look nice, not necessarily looking at functionality other than shooting
You keep a shell in your shotgun magazine?
All my guns are loaded, at all times. All my handguns have one round in the chamber as well. The safety systems on rifles and shotguns isn't good enough IMO to keep a round chambered. None the less, the ammunition is more safely stored in the weapon than it is sitting out loose.
Well wasn't it blued before, meaning you have a chance of rusting it?
You'd be surprised how resilient steel really is against rust, and a smooth mirror finish will prevent rust better than a rough finish. Both of my Matchlocks are bare steel, and even when covered in black powder fouling they rarely rust. The inside of the barrel on my .75 has a nice amber color rust coating now though, this helps protect it exactly like bluing does.
All my handguns have one round in the chamber as well.
Keeping rounds in the mag are fine but why this?

But to each his own, I'm sure you have your reasons. Although when I was living in the north we used to have 2 full magazines for the rifle and AK hidden under a bookcase in the sitting room, encase of trouble with loyalists or British soldiers. I'm glad I moved southwards, although i've become a safety freak now :D
Keeping rounds in the mag are fine but why this?
They're safer in the chamber than in the magazine, honestly. There's less risk of a shell discharging on its own in the chamber than in the magazine. I do some major work on guns as a hobby and have a very complete understanding of how most guns work. Anything with a passive firing pin block is 100% safe to leave with one in the chamber. Safety is pretty simple too, don't pull the trigger, that's a lot more effective than putting faith in a lever that usually only blocks a piece of steel by moving with a few thousandths of an inch.
Your not the first fella who I heard doing that, I myself can't fathom it, I always leave my guns in the safe empty with the breach open. I'm glad I moved southwards, although i've become a safety freak now :D
I'm a safety freak as well, but the difference is, I know what can and can't happen. I'm not going to do something illogical to prevent something that can't happen in the first place. Take a modern 1911 for example. For the gun to fire, 1st the safety has to fail, then the half-cock notch on the hammer has to fail, then the back strap safety has to fail, then the firing pin block has to fail. All of these things happening exactly at once isn't very likely at all, and on top of that the hammer will have to move with enough force to bounce the firing pin into the primer. If you notice, when you lower the hammer on a 1911, or most guns, in its fully uncocked position it still isn't pushing the firing pin in contact with the primer of a round. The force of the hammer falling makes the firing pin pop forward away from the hammer, and into the primer. As a side note, I'm the only person here and no one but me has access to the guns. Should the situation be different, I would do things differently.
As a side note, I'm the only person here and no one but me has access to the guns. Should the situation be different, I would do things differently.
Yeah, I have to share my safe with my oul' fella, he likes Black Powder guns and antique shotguns.
You keep a shell in your shotgun magazine?
Actually, that looks like the mag follower.
You keep a shell in your shotgun magazine?
Fully loaded. The chamber is empty, but I keep the magazines of my home defense guns loaded.
Actually, that looks like the mag follower.
Yeah I noticed that, if it was a shell I would see the brass.
