I am super-insulted as a finnish, that "Suomi" Submachinegun hasn't been mentioned. Or "Lahti-Saloranta" Light machinegun. Not even by our fellow countrymen
The Suomi I can understand wanting to be mentioned, but there's not much special about the Lahti-Saloranta except for being pretty accurate.
Best thread ever. It's fun cause I own just about every non-automatic gun in the OP. I might post a pic later of my safe of guns.
The moving parts of an autoloader tend to be their downfall when comparing accuracy between a semi-automatic rifle and a bolt action rifle. Likewise, the accuracy of a rifle musket can be better than even a bolt action rifle because they have no moving parts in the barrel at all. You can also fine tune the way the round is loaded into the musket in ways that are impossible for a cartridge fed rifle. Though for the most part the comparative accuracy between rifles is often a case of splitting hairs unless you're talking ranges greater than 800-1000m.
So guys, I am A Brit but I heard someone talking about GLASS bullets Apparently they will blow an intire fucking limb off, and by the sounds of the Glass part, Shatter and do evn moar damage [editline]01:34PM[/editline] Ahh, Asked my Dad, He said they are Real but very very rare, and they do do a fuckton of damage to flesh

Heavy lead traveling at velocities exceeding sound. Glass would be horrendously light and just shatter on impact; maybe embedding some bits in the skin at most.
Fucking fuck my SKS malfunctioned. No, not jammed, it malfunctioned.
Have you tried field stripping it? Or, you know, cleaning it at all? It may just possibly give you an idea of what's wrong with it.

Though it may inflict a very painful, nasty, and hard to treat wound, it's too light to inflict any sort of serious penetration and damage. It would need an EXTREMELY high velocity and it will have to be using some incredibly tough glass. But then that defeats the purpose of making it fragment more than conventional lead.

But I learned something new today regarding that glass bullet thing. Interesting read.
Lahti L-39 if any more marginal guns need mentioning [editline]02:07PM[/editline] Yes but that fine-tuning means you have no idea how the round behaves when shot.
Until you've fired it, no. But if you find the perfect amount of powder to load and what kind of cloth to use as a patch you can get excellent shots every single time. Some black powder rifle shooters really do get down to that kind of detail and keep records of how each shot performed.
hey guys wanna see 2 dumbasses
ouch
Remember lads, standing anywhere in the 180 degree arc in front of a shooter is a no no indeed.

I sure wonder why all marksmen competitions are dominated by modern rifles.
I'm not a firearm fan, but hell yeah your thread is informative.
back again, anyone know the differences between 5.56x45 standard vs 5.56x45 MK.262?
M855 is not as deadly out to range, but can go through metal and the like better. Mk262 is deadlier at range, but is not as good for material penetration. [editline]01:13PM[/editline]
Earlier when I was shooting it the shells didn't eject fast enough to escape the chamber too.
Your magazine is a clusterfuck of fail then. So is your buffer spring.
Really? I sure wonder why all marksmen competitions are dominated by modern rifles.
Because shooting with a black powder rifle is nowhere near as convenient as a cartridge rifle, black powder is also corrosive and it takes nearly three times longer to clean a musket than it does a bolt action rifle. Powder fouling in the barrel means you need to either hammer the ball down the barrel with a mallet if you're using a patch, or suffer inaccuracy with a raw lead ball. Smoothbores don't suffer from this quite as much, I don't even shoot with a patch in my Matchlock after the first shot. Bullets/Minnie Balls can be fired without a patch too, and they do expand to fit the barrel when fired but you'll get better accuracy with a patch regardless. To clean the musket you must remove the barrel from the stock and pour hot water down the barrel to dissolve the fouling and then use a thick swab to pump the water in and out through the touch hole until the barrel is clean. If you miss any spots it will be rusty by the next morning. Worst problem you might face with firing a cartridge rifle is the firing pin doesn't strike the primer hard enough and needs to be recocked, or the cartridge might get a little stuck in the chamber when the gun gets hot, though thorough cleaning can pretty much eliminate those two problems. Most rifles don't require you to dismantle them beyond removing the bolt or opening the gas cylinder either and take less than 10 minutes to clean. That and they don't stink and cover you with greasy dark green goo while you clean them. Now don't get me wrong, black powder shooting is a LOT of fun, I actually enjoy shooting with my Matchlock more than any of my other guns, and not because I'm biased towards it either (Well, ok maybe a little). That and it's fun to be shooting next to the guy shooting his little .50 cal off a bench. A full size .75 caliber musket being fired certainly turns some heads and draws a crowd.
Really? I sure wonder why all marksmen competitions are dominated by modern rifles.
that's a bit disingenuous because there are shitloads of different competitions/categories. Some specify only vintage war rifles with irons, others are only for muzzleloaders, etc that said it'd be silly to use a muzzleloader if modern, riced out benchrest guns can be used. it'd just be a handicap, because you'd introduce more variables that could fuck up performance (the patch, etc)
Just butting in here to ask about gun laws in the Netherlands and if anyone has any knowledge on them. All I have right now is an air rifle (Weihrauch HW35) but I'm kind of interested in the real deal by now. [editline]11:27PM[/editline] Also I'll be turning 18 in august so I'm just getting some info before I'm there.

Anyone know where I could find a Walther P1? I'm looking at buying one.
Well the fucking plate that holds up the bullets went in to the bolt.
You can probably replace the entire magazine assembly if need be. They aren't too expensive. Just remember that it can't be removable or that makes your SKS and AW.
Does that thing even work?
Well considering that there is a light bulb near the muzzle and a few LED's inside... Yes, it must be the most powerful weapon ever created by man.
It probably works but it only has the killing power of a .22lr.
