There's no gameplay. No one has talked about any, no one has shown any. People will buy this, look at some planets and creatures, realize there's nothing to do after a few planets, then stop.
The real question is if space is purple would the sky really be blue
Actually, if the atmosphere was predominantly carbon dioxide the sky would be purple.
Sort of like Mars (when you don't have dust fucking it up, which means never.)

It kind of seems like Starbound but more visually stunning and yet with less real content. Also like Starbound it probably won't be fun without friends

buzzkill betty over here
Does anyone know if this is singleplayer only? I thought I read it was but I'm not sure
Uhhh, the whole trailer was showing that it was multiplayer, did you even watch it?

Careful, people will rate you dumb instead of even entertaining the possibility that they were just fooled by clever marketing. I forget how young facepunch can be at times :(
Uhhh, the whole trailer was showing that it was multiplayer, did you even watch it?
Did you? At no point in the trailer did they imply there were other players. It's already been confirmed that this game has no "traditional" multiplayer, as in you'll never see another players.

Quote from RPS article:
No Man’s Sky isn’t a multiplayer game, in as much as you’ll never see another player. But the galaxy is the same between everyone and actions of “significance” will be shared. If you kill a single bird, that won’t be shared. If you make an entire species of bird extinct, then those creatures will blink out of existence for everyone.
[editline]10th June 2014[/editline]
I guess you could still argue that it's multiplayer, but not really in the traditional sense. The world is shared between the players but you'll never see other players.
No mans boner.

I have a sinking feeling that this will cause a group of players to just go around killing off entire planets and ruining everyone's fun.

Those planets look kind of big so I would not assume it would be an easy task. I bet it would take a long time even with many people doing it.

people understand E3 is full of shit
they just don't expect a small indie studio to have a completely bullshit video.
Also I really hope there is more to this than just explore and shoot at space ships. I like building stuff and making a place my home.

I can get behind that. It will likely look a great deal like the video in this thread, but that video was on rails, and not GAMEPLAY. I don't doubt that those are in-game assets, creatures, planets and so fourth. But that whole sequence was not someone controlling the game on the games terms.
Well at least it is actual footage captured in real time and not pre-rendered stuff. Here is another video this one actually states that at the beginning.

Also one thing that really intrigues me is the fact they say on their website every creature is randomly generated and I really want to know to what extent that it.
My guess is that they have pre-made models and the game randomizes the textures and the models a bit for the new creatures that are made with each planet.
I'm so fucking hyped for this game. Probably most out of any at E3 this year. I'm just hoping it's going to have enough replayability and features that keep it from getting stale.
it looks like starbound+space engineers
that sounds pretty cool

That doesn't sound cool at all, i've played both games for like 2 hours and that's it. I don't like them. Where is the gameplay? They're boring.

Both are early access?
Something about the players movement gives me a sneaking suspicion this trailer is pre-rendered, but I'm not completely sure so who knows.

it's all gameplay so far, just following a pre-defined path with smoothed camera movements

like have you ever seen a gameplay trailer before??
There's no gameplay. No one has talked about any, no one has shown any. People will buy this, look at some planets and creatures, realize there's nothing to do after a few planets, then stop.
I had (and to some degree still have) my doubts about the gameplay, but in this interview they talked a lot about what Hello Games wants to do with the gameplay and it sounds very promising. Sean Murray specifically said that it's not just an "ambient experience" and you'll actually have stuff to do. He even repeated it later on because he was obviously concerned about gamers getting the wrong idea about No Mans Sky.

Also, they mentioned a trailer with a compilation of various environments being shown after the trailer in OP. Anyone have a link?
The annoying thing for me after doing research is that the last video they released before the E3 videos (The one I posted further up) was released over half a year ago and they released this one because of E3 rather than because release is around the corner.
I really want to know when they intend to release. With large gaps of videos will it be soon or not for another year. It looks quite refined as is so with some optimism it will be this year.
I've been following this project quite a while now, few weeks ago their website was just some looping video.
lol i'm not buying a $400 piece of shit for 1 game
He said PS4, not Xbone.
[editline]11th June 2014[/editline]
It bugs me how the planets are so close together. It just looks dumb and they would rip eachother apart from their gravity.
[editline]11th June 2014[/editline]
I'd buy a PS4 for this.
I already have one, but if I didn't, this would only be 1 of many reasons I'd buy PS4, along with interesting looking PS4 exclusives, such as Infamous:SS (was very fun), The Order:1886, Littlebigplanet 3, Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, Driveclub, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Rime, Resogun (extremely fun retro shooter), Shadow of the Beast, The Last Guardian (will this game ever be shown again?), Deep Down, VR Horror Game (please, don't suck), open world RPG from Guerilla with space elephants, game from God of War devs, GT7, and also non-PC multiplats like Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy XV, and many, many more amazing games yet to be made.
I have a sinking feeling that this will cause a group of players to just go around killing off entire planets and ruining everyone's fun.
That would be kind of cool, actually. You could have 'genocide guilds' dedicated to turning entire servers to desert. Maybe some cool conflicts trying to defend systems full of wildlife and such.
Not that the game has to provide any sort of framework for this. It'd be great if it would just emerge organically out of that whole extinction mechanic. I guess it depends on how well players can organize themselves.

Too bad that contrast and the extremely vibrant colors make it look like bleugh
