http://www.wpxi.com/money/9537544/detail.html This might be relevent. Apparently there's a huge flaw in a type of glass that's made in a certain way where a microscopic imperfection in the glass (eg an air bubble the size of a pinhead) can throw the pressure of the glass off and cause it to randomly explode. This has been seen in everything from glass patio tables to glass shower doors.
Thank god he wasn't in the oven when it happened, he could've cut himself.
Upgrade to an electric stove? once i came downstairs and somehow my cat stacked his food and water bowl on top of each other neatly
Gas stove > electric. You should upgrade to one without glass that can break.
Upgrade to an electric stove? once i came downstairs and somehow my cat stacked his food and water bowl on top of each other neatly
Electric stove is NOT an upgrade. It's hard as fuck to use if you really know how to cook.
You know, I had an electric frying pan with a glass segment on the lid that imploded like this. It happened a few hours after the pan had cooled down, so I can't see heat doing it. (Especially since the glass broke inward instead of outward) I even experienced the continuous crackling sound like you did. There's probably a company that makes glass for cookware out there somewhere recalling shit.
Shit thread.
Shit post.
The electric stoves where you can actually see the elements (they're on the surface) are much better than a glass top stove, as we just got a new glass top stove and it heats a lot slower than our old exposed-element stove. It also has poor heat regulation, as it thinks that low means mild boil. This thing wasn't cheap either.
Glass in my gas
Electric stove is NOT an upgrade. It's hard as fuck to use if you really know how to cook.
Our electric stove lets you set the temperature. Easy as anything to cook stuff. Just read the recipe.
best combination, have an electric fan convection oven with an electric grill. and a gas hob. i assume spacedooky was referring to the hob when he said you need gas if you cook properly. and you really do. no electric stove lets you so quickly and easily change the temperature you're getting or very quickly deliver lots of heat. if you cook on gas and you're anywhere near good at cooking, going to electric is really frustrating
Your glass has become sentient and is dividing only so it can replicate and spread itself further. Immediate nuclear holocaust of 100mile radius around site of alien abnormality reccomended.
Awesome. I did that with a Microwave once.
holy shoot, are you OK?
check your house for zombie goasts, i hope you live near the countrysides
The glass was probably crackling because it was tempered. I work with tempered glass in my job, an when that shit breaks, it keeps crackling for a good 5-10 minutes.
The glass was probably crackling because it was tempered. I work with tempered glass in my job, an when that shit breaks, it keeps crackling for a good 5-10 minutes.
Really? That explains part of it. Now for WHY it shattered.
I've had the exact same thing happen before, but it was in an entertainment center. Was just watching TV, saw a flash of static electricity, and the glass blew up in front of my face, then was hopping around. I'm assuming something similar happened.
The glass is alive and is replicating it's self so it can overthrow humanity.
Even heat-tempered glass has its breaking point. Your stove is shit.
Go make a thread about it.
Go make a thread about it.
No that's a very bad idea maybe I should just go outside and ask somone on the street.
I read the title wrong and thought it was....something else.
Electric grills are the worst, especially with bacon.
DIY do-everything dad right here.
Damn it, can't stop giggling.
put your face really close to the glass face first and you can hear the tiny glass people rebelling against the communist gases
WE MUST REMAIN LOYAL TO THE STATE
This reminds me of one time, my mom was in the kitchen, and suddenly the heating element on our electric stove exploded. The pot on top had a hole in the bottom, and my mom said that flames were shooting like a jet a few feet into the air for a few seconds. There was also a loud buzzing. We replaced the element, and it works fine now. Glass is an odd thing. Scientists disagree on a few things about it. It sounds like there was a rapid temperature change, but it could also be something undocumented be science.
Shit, that makes me glad my heating elements are below a cover. We have a smooth top stove. Came with our apartment.
