The picture with all the different skeletons would have been nightmare fuel if they were all looking at the same general spot ( although Mr. Looking At The Other Guy is a little strange ). Even more so if the same general spot happened to be where the camera man was.
I love places like this. I'm definitely going to visit this place someday.
Damn, its awesome to see their last facial expression. Amazing. Rated informative.
I thought at first the thread title said "The Cappuccino Catacombs of Palermo". I was picturing some kind of touristy catacombs, with a coffeeshop where you can drink your coffee out of mugs shaped like human skulls.
Well, cappuccino is named after the Capuchin friars, supposedly because it resembles the colour of their clothing.
Excuse my disrespect for the dead... (Maybe if they were burried this wouldn't happen)
I lost it at the Impostor. :v:
Such beautifully Macabre places. Great inspiration for some gothic environments for games. Heck, someone should remake some of these as playable maps in Gmod, that'd be wonderful.
Imagine you are locked in this place. No one can rescue you til the next day. It's night time. There's something moving about down there...

Looks like my kinda place.
Numbers aren't scary, use "Innumerable leering grimaces of aged bone," or something similarly clichéd.
I wasn't trying to be scary I was trying to be correct, 8000 is the number of skeletons in there.
The one between orgasm and le tired looks to be 'the librarian' or 'the secretary' The one between the retard and the grim reaper looks like a 'Wha...'
Not quite as insane as the Sedlec Ossuary. (which will also be adorned with human skulls)
Oh, I like it. I like it allot! I want it!
This seems fucked up, but if people wanted their remains to preserved this way, I don't see how it's wrong. On the other hand, it's still extremely creepy.
Nautsabes would love that place.
Just think of the worst ever prank you could play in there. A: get fishing wire on the bodies, like hands and heads and the get a tour in the dark. When you can feel that everyone in the group is shitting them pull on the fishing wire to make the bodies go frantic. B: during a tour in the dark, get someone dressed up like on of the dead bodies and when the tour group walks pass the bloke dressed up (let them gain some distance) then get the man to walk around slowly. When they think they hear something get the bloke to hide, then after a while to run after them.
Pranks are cool, but not involving the remains of others, or disrespecting the area. As for the idea of "it's wrong to display the dead", some of these people asked to be buried there, and I'm pretty sure everyone except the children asked too. I'd like to visit it some day.
I find this quite interesting, and don't see any problem with the method of burial. Those bothered by it being on display, it's the kind of place you visit in the way you visit the Vatican, quietly and with only your hands and head showing.
look out for the episode of 'Most Haunted' usually on living tv in the uk, the show is a pile of shit but it gives you a tour of the place and you can see how incredibly creepy it is, in the asthetic sense.

Everything is not to be taken literally in that book though.
