I'll check back in three days, I have to go to the hospital now for surgery ; my chemo treatment hasn't worked as it was intended to do, and well hopefully I'll see you guys in three days ; If not, well it has been an honour knowing everyone of you guys in musicians gig room. =) Thank you all for being who you are, and never let anyone put down your work, because each and everyone of you are beatiful, talented musicians who deserve the best.[/QUOTE]
Is it just me or does this seem sort of ominous?
Good luck dick
Hope everything goes well Dick Tracy.
We can submit old work right?
I started this a long time ago, and I'm wondering if It's worth it to start working on it again for this album:

Please feel free to do any changes you want, I personally probably won't be able to record anything really.

Also it looks like you have my song title as Holy Helix and the artist name as REM Relapse. It's supposed to be the other way around.
I got some nice timpani sounds, now for the bloody bass and snaredrums, what soundfont would you use for them?

For kick drums(bass drums uncommonly) I would use a kick drum sample.
For snare drums, i would use a snare drum sample.
What's with your obsession with soundfonts
soundfonts suck they sound super-unrealistic
Here's my submission. I sent the wav and the info in a PM to you, Pepin.

I'm sorry, but I need to use soundfonts because the program can only use them. I'd play the snare stuff myself (bit rusty, I am though) but I don't have any mics.

Soundfonts blow, specially the free ones. Use a VST.
Also sent Pepin my song
Ok, then I'll try the basedrum part in cubase.
use ezdrummer lol what are you doing
It can easily be said that there are no good free drum kits. The ones that exist can't compare with the professional ones.
What I'm trying to do has been posted on page 3 or something.

Tbh you can always just cut up known breaks, then layer the kicks with ones from free kits for a good low end, and snares too for some sparkle, then program them without quantisation, use somewhat large velocity changes and switch up some sample occasionally. Then send it all to a bus reverb at appropriate levels, hipass it at 90hz. There, that's my routine. There's ofc compression adn eqing but that's individual for every different sound. And usually I use a bus compressor too.
How2makegoodbreaksfromfreesamples.
You can do a lot with samples, you can make them sound real good, but you can't make them sound like someone is playing a real drum kit. Why this is should be pretty obvious. But a big trend now, especially in pop is not ever deal with live drums, which is perfectly fine and much easier to work with.
Dave Pensado had a tutorial on working with drum samples.

It is possible to get close to live drums, check out some dj shadow and stuff, but you are right, definitely won't ever sound 100 % real.
I never said they would sound more realistic, maybe natural is a better word. Just trying to say how you can spice up some free samples
