Facepunch Collaborative VII: One More Till An Octave
Alright, I've got my contribution ready (well, sort of). The problem is, I do not have any means of recording guitar or bass at all, or not without a loud hissing noise that really is annoying.
My bass buddy did lay down the riff however on the song, but as you can hear the recording is pretty bad.

AS you can hear, the noise is rather overpowering at some times, and this is where I need YOU to help me reocrd a song that I really think can be really good with a noisy guitar and a pounding bass.
The song goes in 105 BPM, and is in C standard.
It is built this way:
Intro (drums only)
Verse
Chorus
Drum break (drums only obviously)
Verse
Chorus x2
Breakdown
Jam Riff
Stick
Breakdown2 (not the same as first)
Jam Riff
Verse
Chorus
Drum break
Outro (same as intro really)
Here are the riffs themselves (note; They are not transcoded with proper beat, but you should be able to hear it in the song itself. They are also put down as EADG, not because that's how it is played in standard tuning but because I don't know what the strings are called when tuned in C standard.)

NOTE : ON the first and third chorus, my friend plays an E2 that he slides out.
The guitar is meant to follow what the bass plays. =)
I would be extremely honoured if someone of the highly skilled guitarists/bassists of facepunch could record the guitar/bass part for me, sadly I do not have anything to offer beyond the newest humble bundle pack, and I only got two of them. I paid $15 each though, so you'll get all the games included in the latest humble bundle. =)
I guess I could do this, but you know what my recording quality is like from that snippet I posted before. If I may say so the bassline is a bit crappy though, and to play the exact same over it on guitar? Doesn't seem like it'd be worth the time it would take to make a song like that (I'm talking about you here of course, not whoever would play it for you, it's super generous of you to offer steam gifts in return.)

Any quality is better than the constant hissing we get at least :v: What would you change in the bassline?
I guess the guitarist could play something similar on the guitar as long as it sounds good, personally I'm not comfortable enough to play counter-melodies and stuff like that, but if whoever who feels the need to record the guitar want/can do that then please do so. =)
I'd love to pay people more, but my budget always gets a bit strained near christmas ; A lot of charities and stuff like that who needs the money more than me.
Welp, dad found his copy of cubase, so I plugged in my guitar and screwed around. Also, I'm looking for better percussion soundfonts.

This made me wonder if there is such a thing as jazz metal.

Haha, what makes you wonder that?
Haha, what makes you wonder that?
I think it's the bass. Hearing the imperfections reminds me of jazz for some reason.
Jazz metal would be a pretty cool genre actually, it would be like folk metal and progressive metal combined sort of. =)
After I finished Mano-A-Mano, which was a metal song written with a spanish scale, I had the idea of making one with a jazz-y scale.
Never got around to it, though.
December 20th is the deadline I'm proposing.
Rate agree if you like it
Rate disagree if you don't

Oh Jaco is awesome, I'd say that's one of the best renditions of "Portrait of Tracy" too! Being able to pull off those harmonics is just... insane. =)

Facepunch Album: Extra Facepunch, hold the facepunch with the facepunch. Yeah. Facepunch; dawg.
none of those were very jazzy

Were you expecting Louis Armstrong vocals over Kirk Hammet riffs
They're all jazz-metal fusion, and they all have very overt influences. I don't understand how anyone could fail to hear them as such.
no definitely the opposite
Sorry but do you have any clue like :v:
i think calling a prog rock song from 1969 "jazz-metal" is a bit inept. the word fusion comes from mixing funk and R&B with rock which is definitely not in what you posted.
and i refuse the notion of progressive rock being jazzy since it prides itself on leaning towards white european musical styles rather than black musical styles. playing a 9th chord doesn't make it jazz.
i'm pretty open about styles and would totally call all three of those rock but when you start to play the genre game there's a pretty distinct difference between jazz and rock.
so, no, when you say jazz-metal fusion. i don't expect influences, i expect signs of jazz and signs of metal which defy words because they come in music form, not prose.

Sounds like you read the first line of the jazz fusion wikipedia article
As far as 21st Century goes, it was completely groundbreaking, no reason to be stuck with terminology as it was at the time.

Prog rock draws from jazz practically by definition

Idk what to say to you if you didn't hear any genre influence, other than listen to them again I guess? Anyway this isn't YT, not going to argue over it. I swear genre labels are only good for creating arguments when it comes down to it
What's the point of saying "not going to argue over it" when you've just argued over it? :v:
Speaking of arguing, were you interested in perhaps giving the song a go, MakoSkyDub? If there are some parts you don't find interesting then feel free to switch around a bit, as long as it sort of sticks to the general sound of the song. =)

i hate prog and love jazz so no
I dislike smooth jazz. I can listen to me, but I hate how smooth it is. I prefer bebop.
smooth jazz sucks yeah

If you like. Could you send me the drum track w/o the bass on it though? I'll see if I can make something interesting from it

meh WIP
still feels like it is missing something. more moog maybe???
many of my favorite drummers are heavily jazz-influenced, and you can hear it in the songs
also, this is p. jazzy metal
in-fact most of the Mirrors songs are improvised

I found a tab for Green Onions, but I don't think I can play that for this album, mebbe the concept album.
