Why do people think that this baby will mean that his mum will spend no time with him? It doesn't work that way when you're that much older than the new baby, trust me. My mum's two kids, first was born when I was 12 and the second when I was 17. I did think when I was 12 that my mum wasn't going to love me so much, especially as before my stepdad came along we lived alone together and were very close. I thought this baby would steal my mum and make them all a little family that I couldn't be a part of. So I was miserable about it (I did gain a kitten though :D). I didn't love my little brother straight away, I saw him as something that was going to take my mum away and bring bad change. I also never have really liked babies so the thought of having one around was a nightmare to me. The day he was born? I'll be honest, I went to my grandmothers and cried :D. When I got used to him being there, when he started to smile at me and show some basic character...that's when I really got to like him. Now I love him even though he's an annoying little kid who never shuts up :D
As for me and my mum? Well we were pretty much the same. My stepdad too, just the same (we get along fine). It's a totally different relationship you have with your teenage child to your baby so it was ok.
With my second brother I was horrified because the first one had just grown up into a real child, going to school and everything, and now there was going to be another baby. I just saw that they'd be an even more "nuclear family" with me as the odd extension. I hate the nuclear family, it's never been a part of my life. Again I didn't love the baby till he started to interect with me. Obviously I was more mature at this stage and handled it better. He's three now, and makes me listen to him talk about dinosaurs and how they kill things :D. I couldn't really picture life without them there now. The thing is someone who really isn't fond of kids, who was absolutely horrified when her mum was pregnant, still can say that it's not that bad in the end and you get used to it. Your parents don't lose interest in you, especially if you're much older, because you already have a different relationship with your parent anyway. You already had stopped being the baby, so the new baby will have that role and you'll just continue being the teenager.
My mom had TWINS at 39. I now have 7 year old twin sisters and I'm 26. It's bizarre.
Have fun babysitting.
41 ey, the kid is much more likely to have down syndrome.... im just saying worst case scenario. Other than that Congrats.
brief history:
Ok so my mum is 41 and my step dad is 41 aswell. They got married this year in the summer. I'm 15 and i have a 18 year old sister.
Right so i was taking to someone online when my mum calls me down to the kitchen. My step dad walks in and at 1st i thought i was in trouble. Then my mums says "James, Where going to have a baby" I was shocked at 1st then i went and hugged my mum saying Thats really great news...I'm not the best at talking to people. So yer. Whats to expect with a pregnant mum? :P
He will probably have better spelling than you...
Shit dude, 41 is way too late to be having babies. Women begin having really bad problems when they have kids after the age of 35... Sarah Palin was 44 when she squirted out her last kid, and her baby ended up with Downs Syndrome...
Statistically speaking the kid is probably going to be developmentally disabled.
My mom was 42 when she got me, I can say that I don't have any mental disorders
I hope
If you are 20, the chance of having a baby with Down's syndrome is one in 1440; at 35 it's one in 338; and at 45 it's one in 32.
Shit man, that's some pretty high chances of having a baby with downs.
