I'm going to be a DJ, should I know anything more about it?

Okay, so in the past months I've bought myself Mixers, I got a MacBook and good speakers, I've been practising and now it's going to be my first gig, a local disco evening, I know the basics, and.. yeh. Do I need to know/do something else still?
Your gonna be the next Owl City.
All you need is the tedious lyrics and your set.
Define "Mixers", also shouldn't this be in the Music section?
Well you gotta start somewhere, maybe ask around other DJs see what they know.
But you shouldn't be too nervous, just do lots of research and prep.
You might want to have looked up everything you needed to know before getting your first show. :)
buy a already mixed cd, put it in deck. press play. viola, instant dj. no one will notice the difference, just play around with some un-used knobs on the mixer to make it look like you are doing somthing.
Practice a bit before the gig so you know what you're going to play.
Trust me improvising your first gig is not a good plan.

Some professional mixers that I've seen the old DJ use, got them cheap
2nd Question: Dunno
Don't worry, you've got what you need, you'll survive.
You sound very experienced.

doubt it really matters if he's got a plan or not. he's using software to mix so he can easily beatmatch with the press of a button and can also see the waveform of the track so it's really easy to know when to drop the next track in.

What kind of mixers, Behringer, pioneer, numark or what?
You sound very spoiled
just loop Blood rave all night long and you'll be fine
You and every other little teenager who gets this little idea in their head from listening to too much music. It will pass.

Just spike everyone's drink so they get too wasted to care about how shit you are at doing your job.

And why the fuck are people rating the OP dumb?
OP has no clue how to operate any of these other than press play and pause.
please tell my why you needed to get mixers in the first place if you are using virtual dj?
Why the fuck are you using VDJ for a start. Also, whats with the 4 channel mixer? If you're just using VDJ, you don't need a mixer at all, since VDJ is, infact, virtual, it has built in mixers. To use that 4 channel mixer properly you'd need to get 4 audio outputs from the mac that has each channel of VDJ going to each channel input in the mixer. All you need is an amp and some speakers (or some active speakers that don't need an amp)
If you want to be good, get yourself some vinyl, and some decks. That's when you'd need the mixer dude

Feel free to rate me dumb :/
Also, if he wants to really use software, look into Traktor Scratch Pro and Kontrol X1, but you'd still need decks then really..

sorry dude I shouldn't have really raged, it's VDJ I hate, not you
I really don't have money for software that cost like that, those mixers were only 30 euros.
OP if you really want to get into DJ I suggest you start off small and only do it as a hobby. Learn the basics. If you can't do it as a hobby, then being a DJ is not for you.
There's two types of DJs.
There's the start-stop-fade DJs who just push buttons and transition songs. There's really not a lot of talent to this and you don't even need anything other than some nice speakers and a computer. Granted, other equipment will make you look more professional, but you're doing pretty much the same.
Then there are DJs who actually variate the music while it's playing. They do a lot of complicated, dynamic maneuvers to keep the 'vibe' of the place going. Furthermore, they keep the songs from sounding like the songs everyone knows. For this, you need a lot of experience, a lot of time, and a lot more than some random mixers and a PC program.
I'm not trying to be overtly cynical. If you're just there to keep a playlist going, just learn your programs and equipment to keep everything smooth. If you're there to be an original, newly emerging voice in an almost music-creation-like scene; save your breath and practice helluva' lot more.
This is cringe inducing for anyone who knows anything about hardware/software behind DJing.
