Do your parents know? How did they find out and how do they deal with it? (or not) - General

I've been caught 6+ times. The first time I got caught, it was about a week after high school graduation. I had been smoking for a few months, definitely still a rookie. They caught me with an eighth of dro and two bowls. I had to use the "It's not mine, I'm holding it for a friend" excuse. It was true, but ineffective. I got yelled at for a while, but ultimately, it strengthened my relationship with my mother. Both of my parents smoked pot/drank/other drugs when they were my age. They've both been there. Second time: Christmas break after first semester of college. They found a folded piece of paper with some shake in it. My buddies and I were rolling joints the night before (first night back) and we must have dropped that by accident. Got yelled at a bit, couldn't drive rest of the break. Third time: Spring break during second semester. Don't quite remember how it happened, but it did. Mom didn't really care. She told me she just didn't want me going out and getting stoned every night. Fourth time: April 20th. Mom noticed a very large withdrawal from my bank account. Knew exactly what it was for. Also, my Aunt saw a post on my FB wall about me taking Morning Glory seeds and informed my mother. I tried explaining "Psychonaut" to her. It did not go over well. Fifth time: End of summer. Parents found a bowl I had stashed in my car due to extremely bad luck. Parents were livid. Sixth time: Dumbass friend left baggies on the floor of my car. Dad found them. Mom pretty much stopped caring. Dad's still a fucking ass about it. Seventh time: Dad wants a random drug test. I did not pass. Mom tells me to stop being a dumbass about it. Dad bitches some more. My mom and I have talked about it a bunch. If my dad wasn't such a dick, it wouldn't be an issue. She took a drug test for me so that I could get the car back. I've been clean since then. I've been drinkin a whole lot more, but my parents don't care about alcohol. Mom also knows I screw around with shrooms and LSD and wants me to stop simply because they could interfere with the meds I'm on.

They're tons of steps behind me, by the time they find out about something I've moved to 'greener pastures' They suspected me of smoking cigarettes then found out it was weed for which I had lighters, other than that nothing else has been found. They don't like it but they have a "all drug users steal and are scum" view.

My mom doesn't know. If she did, I would be in New Mexico for rehab. Never to be seen again. I clean my car like a crime has been committed. Method has never failed me yet. Sure she suspects, but the higher my grades the more she's off my back.

I don't know, but my Dad has been a detective for around 7 years, and a cop for around 20. No joke.

My parents know I smoke weed, but they don't really care because I don't live with them. They found out when I shared some with my dad after I moved out.

My mom and dad both know. I told my mom because I was tired of keeping it a secret, and she pretty much knew anyway because I kept coming home high all the time. They were shocked/surprised/disappointed when they found out but they said I don't have to stop as long as I keep my shit together and don't do it too often. My mom tried smoking weed once when she was my age, and didn't like it. Never tried again. My dad however, was a massive addict. He loves the Grateful Dead, he wears tie-dye all the time. When he was my age, he was dropping acid here and there, smoking weed almost every day, drinking all the time, pretty much doing whatever came his way. He cleaned up his act like 17 years ago and now attends AA meetings every night.

I told my mom that I smoked and she went and told the my whole family, no one really cares and I've smoked with my mom a few times.

My mom is chill with me smoking weed. The day after I tried it I told her all about it and pretty much ever since I've been allowed to smoke in the house (so about 13-14). I love my mom :)

Both my parents smoke weed and my dad gives me money to go out and pick up for him.

Both parents are against it, more my father than my mother. They don't know, and won't find out until I move out.

I have a perfect opertunity to tell my family that I smoke cigarettes. Mum, dad, brother, sister and brother in law are all in the other room and I could go tell them.. at least it would get it out of the way and I'll hear what they have to think. I think my dad would be annoyed and my mum would probably lecture me on why it's bad. My sister might side with me because she has smoked and generally she's more down to earth than everyone else. Brother in law won't really have an opinion. The problem is I'm 17 so I'd need to explain how I bought them and they'd put me on the spot and all that. On top of that I'm a pussy, I'd be too scared. Any advice? :p

Continue not telling them?

Yeah, I could not tell them and "let" them find out when I'm 18 and then they'd really have no say in it but I thought I'd be honest with them and hopefully in the long run they'll be okay with it. As for what you said, Imaledge, Yeah.. I could stop but I like it, sorry.

My parents don't care as long as i'm being responsible. Kinda gives me incentive to do shit in life ya know. Plus my parents have done a lot of drugs in their life so I think that helps them understand.

I could stop but I like it, sorry.[/QUOTE] Well people do enjoy just the act of smoking, it becomes a habit that people enjoy, so yeah if I was you I should tell them earlier rather than later to avoid the "WHY HAVE YOU ONLY JUST TOLD US" argument, and honesty will play a massive part in getting your family to be alright with it.

My mom knows about it, she doesn't agree with it but she's okay with it aslong as I don't smoke inside or on their property. My dad knows that I smoke but I don't really see him so... it's kind of none of his business.

my parents probably know. i've come home so many times fucked up with bags of various fast food it isn't funny. they've never said anything about it though. when they found out i smoked cigarettes they were pretty chill about it even though i was about 15 or 16 at the time. on the plus, i moved in with a friend so there's no worries anymore.

I can't smoke in or around my house area and I live in fear that they'll see me somewhere local if I'm smoking. Yeah, it's irrational paranoia, I don't need to be told - but it gets to me anyway. Atleast if I told them I'd be doing the mature and respectful thing, telling them that regardless of their view I won't stop for them, especially that I'm going to be turning 18 and getting a job for the summer and part of that involves paying dig money towards the house. (ie I can smoke where I want, and even then I'll still be respectful and step outside for a smoke)

Haven't been caught, terrified to tho. My steph dad wouldn't care that much I think, considering he was a pot head back in high school, but my mom is a cop.....So she might have a few things to say >.>

My parents don't care. My dad used to smoke often, my mom has tried it - didn't like it though. My grandmother and her boyfriend have the odd joint now and then. My parents considers getting drunk as "bad" as smoking weed.
