I saw a scene in the trailer where the crossguard wasn't activated but the main saber was, so that means they're not vents releasing excess energy from an unstable synthetic crystal (Not that you'd need one, I guess, Luke's green lightsaber used a synthetic crystal, too)
So there you have it. They're micro sabers and they're there for reasons other than necessity. Gross. It would have some practicality if the hilt wasn't perfectly cylindrical
one theory i saw was that this dude is what the title is talking about and that he's ~awoken~ from a time when the Sith were about and in power, and that the sword is meant to look medieval to reflect that he's not from the time period or something
besides, even if that isn't true, the fact that so many characters get their hands cut off in the series is reason enough for a lightsaber to have a crossguard. Vader, Luke, Dooku, Grievous - all get hands sliced off. it's a legit problem for these guys. calling it "not a necessity" is kinda daft.
plus i think the people who are so opposed to the hilt think that it's one main lightsaber and then two tiny lightsabers bolted onto the sides, when imo it looks more like the blade is focused in three different directions from the same point of origin, so cutting down to the point where the cross guard comes out wouldn't render it useless, just expose a bit more of the blade to the user's hand
My toxx is looking pretty safe at this point.
[sp]pls i dont want to be poor[/sp]
I'm really impressed by the practical effects here. Probably stupid question, but how the hell does the ball bot even work?
I'm really impressed by the practical effects here. Probably stupid question, but how the hell does the ball bot even work?
ball bearings on the bottom of the head and one or several powerful magnets inside the ball that are controlled by a small armature to hold it in position and rotate its direction. A rolling robot ball in itself is the easy bit after that
Episode III was okay
It was still pretty crap though.
What is going on with that helmet
i dunno, what's going on with those stormtroopers? and those x-wings? and those TIE fighters? and that lightsaber? and that Star Destroyer?
Oh my goooooood.
Well, I need to watch star wars properly before I've see this.
My knowledge of star wars is the first episode, the Lego games and the family guy episodes. My knowledge of the series is fucked I know
Do I just watch 4-6?

New artists, new ideas. I know this must disappoint some people.

Yes, you don't have to watch the prequels at all unless you want to see the cgi cartoons (The Clone Wars is easily the best thing we got from the prequels and Rebels is pretty good too).
Wonder if we're going to see Imperial Remnant characters like Thrawn and Daala, or if they're seriously retconning all of that out. Trailer was awesome, though. I'm digging the white TIE fighters and the chrometrooper.

It's retconned, put in the Star Wars Legends bin and is no longer canon.
oh gods this trailer is so much better than the first one
Do we know if they're deleting it or just modifying it? I've heard both.
pls don't be shit
There's a lot of stuff i want them to get right but proper lightsaber duels is near the top of the list, since those fights seem to be the peak of the action or really important scenes
There needs to be tension, and a real sense of the two fighters actively trying to kill each other
not super acrobatic lightshow overly flashy bullshit

Vader is fucking terrifying in that first clip. It's undeniably crude and a little slow, but every swing looks like it's going to chop either of them into pieces, and the camerawork is sensational. Obi and Vader's fight in the first movie has the same effect
I've actually had arguments with people over this crap, unsurprisingly, but disappointingly
It's retconned, put in the Star Wars Legends bin and is no longer canon.
Not to say they'll never draw inspiration in events or themes and shit from the old EU. I mean, they clearly already have.
Kinda funny. It's like how Tron Legacy rendered Tron 2.0 non-canon, but it used a buuunch of Tron 2.0 ideas and actually doesn't refute its place in the timeline all that much.
One downside is that it's now almost certain that nothing in the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series is ever going to be canon. Instead of the weak and disorganized Imperial Remnant, we get the First Order, who still seem to pose a significant threat to the Rebels.
I just liked the clone troopers in the prequels. I love clone/stormtroopers.
Do we know if they're deleting it or just modifying it? I've heard both.
It would have to be modified significantly. The Imperial Remnant isn't really a thing. The First Order seems to still be largely in control. In some of the released material they refer to the Rebels as "The Resistance" implying the Empire is still winning the war.

"Space Nazis. I hate these guys."
Why is Vader's helmet still existent, did he not burn properly? Did they realise cremation was a bad idea when they were left with his corpse cooked in a suit of melted plastic?
IIRC Luke just burnt the suit, because Vader eventually faded into force bits or whatever like Obi-Wan.
It's retconned, put in the Star Wars Legends bin and is no longer canon.
While the events are no longer canon, anyone with the Star Wars licence is allowed to bring in characters, idea, objects etc from Legends and use them.
For example, the Tarkin book that came out last year, has brought in a droid from the Darth Plagueis book, and Director Armand Isard from various Legends works.
While Ep. 2 is utter shit.
Still looks like Citizen Kane next to Ep. 1.
Just one question, how come there was a charred Darth Vader mask in the trailer when it should have been destroyed along with the rest of the Death Star?
Assuming that's what it was.
But otherwise that trailer is actually reallly good.
Vader gets a viking funeral at the end of ROTJ
Say what you will about IGN, but I like their trailer analysis videos.

As a point, that is Anakin's lightsaber being handed from an old woman to a young woman. IE: From Leia to her daughter.

I think both of these fights are really good. Of course in ESB, there's the overarching Vader tension, but people whiz by Episode 3 even though it had built up a lot of emotion and drama up till this point. The entire final act of Episode 3 converges to Vader and Obi-Wan to duel to the death, and since they are master and apprentice, they both know each other's moves and movesets so they have to use their skills to the highest extent. That's why they do all this crazy shit. I think for me, lightsaber duels go ROTJ > ROTS > ESB.
I'm hesitant to get too excited, but it certainly looks really good. Actual humans in costumes playing Stormtroopers is a huge plus in my book.
Also as a side note, please Disney, please make a movie about Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors. PLS

Better question: how the fuck do they have the original lightsaber? It's long gone, should be floating around inside Bespin right now...that was kinda the whole point of Luke crafting the green saber.
