What pisses me off most is that I've been destined to suffer from this, since birth, I'd be a lot more happier if it was a result of something that I at least was responsible for. Kinda infuriating to know you've been proverbially screwed since birth.
I dunno if it would be though. On top of the actual condition, you'd be blaming yourself every day for it. :frown:
You're a great person. Keep being kind and funny, and people will continue to appreciate it.
As daft as it sounds, I'd be a lot happier, because then it at least would be something that I was responsible for and could have potentially avoided, rather than being down to something I was doomed from the start with.
I have scoliosis too but nowhere as severe as this holy shit
My advice to anyone who has even the slightest hint of Scoliosis, get it seen to asap, either with something that solves it, or things that prevent it, Feel free to see me as a lesson on what happens if you don't.
You say Doctors won't do the surgery, is it not just the risk involved but the legal side if they do mess up? If so, maybe you could sign something saying you were aware of the risks etc, maybe one of them would do it for you then?
I offered to do that, but even me signing the paperwork won't suffice, as, well, you can imagine it from their perspective, even with signing the paperwork etc, if i was paralyzed or died, they'd have to carry that on their conscience, though frankly, I'd be alright being dead, no more pain and that, but its hard to rationalize for other people.

He got into an argument with Garry in the Ask Us About Forums thread; Garry decided to shrink it.
You gotta love your body, because that's all you got!
Now not to try and say I know better than you, but are you sure you're correct when you say it'll kill you in time? There were a few people that had gone to the same high schools as me that had scoliosis and nobody mentioned anything that serious (and even wikipedia says nothing about it causing death).
they'd have to carry that on their conscience
I'm fairly sure that doesn't really fucking matter, I mean, that might be what they tell you but it's sort of bad to have dead people on your record as a surgeon.
I'm not trying to paint them as evil, but they no doubt conduct life saving surgeries all the time, risky ones at that and I'm sure many people have died around them. I don't think it's about their conscience. They didn't give you scoliosis. If they won't do it for you try to find somebody who will if you really want it.

He removed it actually, though another user did kindly shrink it down for me and made it transparent.

Pretty sure, no timeframe or anything, but theres stress ont he spinal cord in the right areas, which means if ti gets frayed or cut by the vertabrae, means bad news for me.

I'm not even mad at them or anything, they are the medical professionals not me, so whether its medical, ethical or moral, I don't have a problem with them refusing it on the grounds that, to their learned minds, its too risky to do. And that concience thing was what I said, not them. They refused it, that's all I need to know.
Oh, and if I ever manage it, this will be the song I die to, presuming of course my end isn't swift and I have prior warning about it.

Hohehah, Now youre just being a pussy. I remember one guy from the army, He had the same condition and he mostly didn't whine.

I remember when I was very young and I saw a young-ish boy with a walking stick, being young and stupid I stared and asked my parents why he's using a stick for old people.
It's kinda sad how uneducated a lot of us are about things like this and I think unless you read about it or know someone suffering, you will continue to ask and stare.
I have Scheuermann's disease, which means my back is gradually curving forwards. Eventually I will end up like the hunchback of notre dame but I don't really mind since there is only minor back pain, nothing like you describe.

I'd go get it sorted, you'd be suprised how quickly it goes from minor to major.
I went to a doctor and he said I only have a minor case, and drugs/operations/braces may end up making it worse. I'll just deal with it.
Most people I know (including myself)only have scoliosis because of their terrible posture, which I've been improving for a long time.
I came into this thread expecting a uplifting story.
Now I am sad.
Your doctor is an idiot, get a new one.
No the doctor is not an idiot, does it make you an idiot if you don't want to perform a surgery which could cost you your licence and livelihood, probably ruining your life.
The answer is no.
Shit, man I know what I will say here wont do anything but, I feel really bad for you, I couldn't live with that pain every day, especially not as long as you have. I wish people didn't have disabilities like this and that they could live less painful lives.
I hope you keep up your optimism though and try to stay happy, it might not mean much from some stranger over the internet but I seriously hope you do.
Well there are exercise programs for this to help and reduce the pain, I just wonder if it applies to such a severe case of Scoliosis.
I myself also have it but seems like a minor case in comparison.
I've got kind of a condition too. It's no where near as serious as yours, but I know how it feels when everyone assumes you're fine and you're just lazy.
Best of luck with everything.

Unfortunately, what he's saying is true. If an operation his high risk, it's unlikely that a surgeon will be willing to undertake the task. People like to sue when things go wrong, look up how much a surgeon will pay in insurance for liability. I plan on being a neurosurgeon, deciding on things like this is something that really concerns me. I hate to think someone might have to be in pain or die because of my inability to help.
You say you will eventually die from this. What's the timescale on that? 5 years from now? 10? 20? Indefinite?
Do you take any medication for the pain?
If you were to be paralyzed, from what point down would it be? Neck? Abdomen?
The doctor told me I had scoliosis like... 6 years ago. But he said it wasn't a big deal. Now I want to go get it checked out again. Makes it worse that lately my back has been feeling awful.
I tell you what impresses me? You're ability to just keep going with life, it's like those guys in wheelchairs who play basketball. You're determination and willingness to take the chance for surgery is inspiring.
Damn, and I thought my Scoliosis was bad.
I need to make me some terminator armor. What's your measurements Rayven? Someone hand me some Ultrasmurf Geneseed.
But you should really get some weed. It's been shown to at least mitigate chronic pain caused by scoliosis, arthritis and others without the side effects that usually come (physical addictions and such) with opioids.
Scoliosis runs in my mom's side of the family. Most of my cousins that are my age have it, all to varying degrees. So far, I don't have it. But that's not to say it'll develop as I get older, as it probably will.
As much as I wish I could say I feel your pain, I don't, and if I was in your position, I wouldn't know whether to chance the surgery or not. God I hope I don't have to go through what you are, as I would undoubtedly make the wrong decision.
Best of luck to you.
