If I'm not mistaken Kurt Cobain started heroin because his spine was out of wack.
(and he had constant pain in his stomach)

Oh shit, I hope to god the reason my back is constantly hurting at my age isn't this.

Yes I was, and it wasn't shrunk, it was removed, thankfully someone had a backup and sent me it.
You are one unlucky son of a bitch, but you should be a motivational speaker or something. Maybe you could talk to all of those suicidal gay kids that think life is tough because of their sexuality.
"Think"? Gay kids do suffer a lot of things when their young. It varies between each individual but it's still tough for gay people in a society that tries to condemn their sexuality.
Hope if you get the surgery it corrects the problem, best of luck to you.

How do you actually measure you're own leg accurately?
EDIT: Ah I thought this thread was active.. oops.
so i'm under the age of 18 and i have a 16 degree curve in my spine... and just yesturday i was at my dance class and we were doing back bend tricks... i have a really good arch in my back so i though i would be fine.... but something happened and i collapsed on the floor and my back has been hurting ever since .... not sure what happend but my advice to you is to take what is given to you ....you and i were given scoliosis for a reason ... don't let it defeat you .. embrase it with rejoycing and happiness
I know that this may sound barbaric. but theoretically it should be possible to fix your issue by partially amputating the leg that is shorter and then replacing the piece with a leg prosthesis which matches the other leg perfectly, unless ofcourse the damage to the spine itself is too great.
Could you describe up to what point it is damaged exactly?
It may be possible to straighten out through repeated therapy and proper stretching.
And another thing: woops, this turned out to be a rather ancient thread.
I'm 23 years old, and I have scoliosis too. I'm not in any sort of pain, even though the curve is extremely visible. My doctors don't seem too worried about it and have told me surgery wasn't required as they don't think it will progress.

First bolded statement, I strongly diasgree with, well, anything beyond the reason of defective genes and enviromental physical stresses, other than that, there is no reason, nobody should have to suffer like i/we go through, not in this day and age. Second bolded bit however, I agree with, though in my case i face it with anger (not really visible but towards my condition) and definace, sure, there's aspects that it has and will ruin my life with, but like fuck I'm going to let it get the better of me.
Rather hard to rejoice at infuriatingly severe pain that makes you wish you were dead.

Actually, as far as I'm aware, the medial procedure to fix the issue of my leg being shorter (but won't have an actual impact on my back) is that they break the shorter leg and using a mix of plates, bars and screws legnthen it, so that the bone between the gap fills in and heals. While true, my shorter leg was the cause, it's 25 years worth of damage that has to be fixed on top of that.
Also, shock horror, I'm actually going to share a pop song (I'm not big on pop but eh, nostalgia)

Relaxes me so much.

You don't, you get a professional to do it, they know how to align you so that it's a correct reading.
Damn, and I only ache when I walk! (I got joint stuff)
I feel sorry for you man... Besides, from what I've heard from you, a wheelchair would be much better than walking. Sure, there's limitations, but it's better than mind-numbing pain.
I didn't read the whole thread, so if I'm repeating forgive me.
But why is it named scoliosis? Because your spine makes an S shape?
It's Greek, a derivative from skoliōsis/Skolios meaning crooked.
I'm sorry you have to live like that. It's things like this that make me want to live my life to the fullest. I hope something works out for you, but if not then enjoy the rest of your life as much as you possibly can; even with such a painful condition.
