This and the camera only cost me $15 or a week's worth of food.
The camera was on the dismantle bench. Pretty much once it's there you have a group of monkeys rip the stuff apart and separate the internals into different bins of recycleable material.
I can't find my bench supply so I'll try the one at the office on Tuesday and then we might be able to answer the question of what this really is. I'm really hoping it's still some sort of high-speed camera and not just some excessively good camera. Got no use for shit like that.
I have a question: why don't you just hook it up and use it
Because I'm a pessimist I feel that I should point out a few things:
1. Whatever it is, I think it may be mostly useless without other expensive equipment. (a microscope to put it on and/or proprietary driver software/hardware)
2. You found something that should be expensive at a recycler. Are you assuming that somebody threw away expensive equipment accidentally? It's more likely that it's burnt out/otherwise useless.
If you would prefer a bit optimism: It is possible that it came from one of those companies with more money than sense, who would throw away anything if it's old.
It is also possible that if it is a microscope CCD, it could be plug and play IEEE1394. Then you may only need a power supply, standard cable and a lens.

It captures souls. That's why it was discarded.

I'd be cool if it can capture ghosts. OP could be one of the Ghostbusters.
If you have a multi-meter you can check the wiring routing and find out resistance's/current draw and work out which pins would be used to carry the power where on the power supply plug. Ive had to do that at my work where we get a lot of strange power inputs/mic inputs designed in the 1920's with no instructions at all to follow. And its better than guesswork because from what i can see it has no fuses so it could burn up if you just tried to guess it.
If you're wondering, You need a 5-pin CEE Plug for what it seems, Look it up on the diagrams and you might be able to power it up with some wiring

Thats for 3-phase power, its used forlarge machinery like pillar drills and MIG welders. That connector is nearly as big as the thing itself haha (about 70mm diam)
To see what's inside it, obviously.
How many licks does it take to get to the inside of an electron microscope camera?
Always wanted to film a girl jiggling her ass with a high fps camera.
How many licks does it take to get to the inside of an electron microscope camera?
Eww, why would you ever lick a camera?
Eww, why would you ever lick a camera?
So that nobody will ever want to touch it
The plugs look pretty simple to find, I'd hook that shit up and get it running.

It's tasty.

I'll probably just replace the whole power jack with something I find at the local electronics shop.
If it were a high-speed camera i would expect it to have a proper lens mount and a much faster data interface other than firewire. If it's not the microscope camera (which it is looking very likely that it is) then my best guess is that its some sort of fixed line scan camera for machine vision applications, but again that would usually have a proper lens mounting plate.

The power socket is a 5 pin LEMO connector.
Pinouts for power and I/O can be found on page 19/20 of this manual. http://www.photometrics.com/support/pdfs/manuals/CoolSNAPHQ2K4Manual.pdf
The optimism that you flagrantly display sickens me.

It looks similar to the 7 pin DIN port my Commodore 64 uses for video output.
NICE FIND

hey pessimist dude no one cares that you hate everything and are a downer
go seek attention elsewhere
Maybe look online for cameras like it.
If this works out, you can be one step closer to making your own Mythbusters show. Think about it.

Potassium?
If it turns out be a high-speed camera like you want it to be, and very valuable, why would you keep it?
have you seen the guy's house?
it's basically a house decorated with technology

or am i thinking of someone else with the same avatar

Pentium? Yeah that's who MIPS is.
His house is an amazing spectacle.

Was.
New place is a lot more lacking in my stuff. 75% of it all is back at my parents until I can find a big enough place.

Now that I think about it, whatever happened to that gay furry guy you were thinking about moving in with?
It seems similar to the Scientific CMOS camera, low-light imaging at high frame rates manufactured by Hamamatsu.
