That camera is bad ass. Can't wait to see some action of things breaking or something.
Progress posts please
:)
You have found secret Canadian tech quick hide before they send bears after you
Judging by it's obviously high technological level, it's clearly from the Northern Territories to be exact. The lens however does not record images. What you have there my friend, is a R.A.P. (Reality Alteration Projector). It in fact projects things into reality. Judging by it's size it's capable of storing information that could project objects as large as a mammoth.
This makes sense because us Canadians have been trying to recreate the Mammoth race for many years now so we may train them to become our ultimate war animals to finally invade America and take over the White House.

In all seriousness though. It looks like the security camera from the lobby of my apartment.
any progress made? I'm interested to see the result of this.
Well he got it producing images on the computer, that's a good start :D Can't wait to see progress..
You lucky bastard

It does look like an old beta laser projector. It may be computer controlled through firewire.

E: My fault! Didn't all the pages yet.
Hey, Try reading the thread before you post. kthanks
Have you tried going to someone who specializes in high-speed cameras?
Why did you have to break it?!
But umm.. have you get it to work? Some awesome footage perhaps? Anytime soon?
I have to source out a PC power supply I can convert into a hig amperage 12V supply and I need to hit up the electronics shop for a new power connector. Otherwise all work has stopped because I don't have a power supply ready for it and I can not find any additional software for it besides the freely available camera test and calibration tools.
It's like Creative and their older hardware: They'll tell you the device exists and offer you patches and driver updates but won't actually give you the full driver or control software unless you install it off the disk/CD that came with the device.

Uhhh, it still works.
So have you got any more of an idea what it can do?
Any idea what kind of camera it is?

Email the manufacturer, claim you have one of the production ones but have lost the application software CD and say you are willing to pay for a replacement to be sent to you. They shouldn't have a problem with that. I doubt they would cross check your name against an owners list, if they even kept one.

Photometrics requires in the support form that you specify the serial number of the camera. Because my camera lacks a serial number or any kind of identification I can't submit the form.

Damn. Do they not allow contact via phone? It seems like you could get some where directly like that.
We've got to get that software somehow. We havn't seen slow motion ejaculation yet.
It's not a high speed camera!
Why is it special? I mean, mega high quality or something? And was it the hq2, cause 10 000 is a shitload of money for something thrown away.
The CoolSNAP HQ2 camera is the flagship of Photometrics next generation of high-sensitivity CCD cameras for quantitative fluorescence microscopy. With high quantum efficiency, total elimination of CCD glow, and very low read noise, this camera is perfect for demanding imaging applications in microscopy. Low-noise electronics and the Extreme Eclipse Technology eliminates unwanted CCD electronic noise, effectively enabling longer exposure times!. An interline detector thermoelectrically cooled to -30°C, and two distinct modes of operation (high speed @ 20 MHz and high sensitivity @ 10 MHz) enable the CoolSNAP HQ2 to deliver superb image data.
Figured it out. Basically it's for taking pictures with microscopes that are as good as possible. Sorry if I'm saying something you all already knew

Sounds like a good ebay candidate then.

so we're just missing out on really high quality ejaculation videos.
It's not a high speed camera!
Okay, so it's a really high quality black and white camera.
If that's the case, it's quite useless to me.

Atleast you won't be kicked in the balls.

Damn. I needed a real use for these things.
just out of interest, does the lens detach?
just out of interest, does the lens detach?
Yep
If this is a high-speed camera and I can get it working, I promise you Facepunch that I'll record myself getting kicked in the nuts and upload it to youtube.
I can't wait :v:
I built a power supply using a super fucking generic power supply and the wire from two dead Macbook AC adapters. I also ran over to the electronics shop and completely replaced the power connector.

The cable gets warm because of the amp draw but it works and it's running right now.
I think this is pretty much all I can do now.
It's practically noiseless.
It's after 9PM here and there are no lights on in the house except for my laptop yet this camera can still take a decent image with no light and there isn't a spec of noise on it.

I still need the software tough. I fired off a few emails this morning for additional support but there's been nothing back so far.
Edit: THere's an application called RS Image on the same download page as the driver. It seems to do mainly single shot still captures.

This had to have been some kind of traffic camera of some sort, then.
