:staying away:
just like the 1000 marines vs. 100 SAS thread was in BF2s

Too much call of duty gives kids the idea that SAS fighting pitched battles and overcoming dramatic odds is a daily thing.
This is why I've always hated those "who would win in a firefight between SEAL patrol vs SAS patrol" bullshit. In reality what would probably happen is they would both dump a large amount of ammunition in the general direction of each other, then run like fuck in the opposite direction. Hardly michael bay-esque stuff.
They'd sit down together and play poker.
Nothing else to it.
Why do Israeli helmets look so strange
The Irish Reserve Defence forces wear them,

They are comfortable enough and easy to wear with ear-defenders, the permanent DF have a newer PASGT design that gives better protection to the ears though. It is somewhat of a tradition for the Irish army to use interesting helmet designs, like the 1927 helmet

We looked like the wermacht in the 30's and 40's.
So question to you all here... what's your favourite real (as in, was or is currently issued) uniform design? Doesn't need to be about the actual performance of the uniform, just the aesthetic.
There's something about North Korean uniforms that I do like, such as

Even the female uniform (even if this image is photoshopped to hell and back)

Not advocating North Korea as a nation, I just like the uniform. Oh, and the absolutely perfect marching as well I guess.
but I might as well pose a question for you all
what's your opinion on the militarization of space?
It's not a good thing. If anyone should control military equipment in space, it's the United Nations, for defensive purposes.
Is navy the ones with that blue digital camo?
What were they thinking?
So question to you all here... what's your favourite real (as in, was or is currently issued) uniform design?.
SS and Gestapo hands down. The Italian black shirts were nice too, much better than that mustard yellow Germany had.
Is navy the ones with that blue digital camo?

Generally blue digital or tiger patterns are for recognition rather than camouflage, hell I even seen some Chinese units with even more lurid patterns, I quite like them.
Hey question: You know when you are reloading a pistol, when it's out of ammo, you get the mag out and put a new one in, do all pistols allow you to just press the trigger to load the barrel as the slider slides in?

this was WAY before MW2/MW3
maybe even before CoD4
and it was started by an ex-British Army guy

and troll version v2.

I'm debating on joining the marines or coast guard. I've grown up on boats, and I've been on them my entire life, and I like the idea that there's a good chance I'll stay on this side of the pond. Anyone care to inform me some more on my two choices?
Hey question: You know when you are reloading a pistol, when it's out of ammo, you get the mag out and put a new one in, do all pistols allow you to just press the trigger to load the barrel as the slider slides in?
Generally there is a catch that grabs the slide as it flys back as the last round is shot, when you put a new magazine in you thumb the catch down and let it fly forward thus loading a fresh round into the chamber, however if there is one round in the chamber and the slide is not locked back you can put a new magazine in and keep firing.

Well hoip doip everybody knows that.
It just looks terrible.

Israel
Why do Israeli helmets look so strange
You're talking about the helmets like this, right?

That's the helmet cover they use. It's designed to break up the shape of the helmet and make the soldier harder to spot. However it's mostly useless in urban combat which is what the Israeli military does most of the time so most soldiers just wear it to keep the sun out of their eyes.
In my opinion we need to reinstate the old Airborne invasion tacit, If no one guessed im a massive WW2 nut, any questions related to it lemme know ill do my best to answer them.
In my opinion we need to reinstate the old Airborne invasion tacit
With modern air defenses that wouldn't go over very well. I'm sure even North Korea can take down a C-130 without any problems.

But there are still airbone bridgades. And seems like those post soviet countries have shitloads. Keep seeing pictures of Ukraine airbone trainings

True, but what about para drops which is what i mean, maybe not too old school with the immediate deploying chutes, but rather with altitude ones?
Are there any possibilities that the current Iranian military can inflict damage on other countries?
Paratroopers dropped from B2s.
Imagine the possibilities.
True, but what about para drops which is what i mean, maybe not too old school with the immediate deploying chutes, but rather with altitude ones?
Even the US still has an Airborne unit, the 82nd. Hell, they made a combat drop back in 1989, in Panama. I don't remember the exact circumstances, but I think it's safe to say that standard paratroopers would be useful even in a war against a modern army like North Korea's. The Germans had good anti-air capability, and we dropped dudes against them.
airborne units are obsolete in modern warfare, sure they have the occasional use, but not really against a modern target
SS and Gestapo hands down. The Italian black shirts were nice too, much better than that mustard yellow Germany had.
I like the way the SS uniforms looked also.

Want kind of "modern" are you talking about, Killerjc? Post 1945 or "anything after 1991"?

Post '91
Personally, I prefer to refer to the years between 1945-1991 as the Cold War era, with modern being post 1991.
