Don't know about anyone else, but for me, it's because I was raised in a Christian family.
I may not believe in what they stand for, but it'd be impolite not to participate with my family in the celebrations. Nothing can justify being rude over a difference of belief.
Much the same reason if I were to marry a religious person, how I would respect her belief and go to church with her if she wanted me to. It's not like it's going to kill me or anything.
