When you see an American (or any nationality for that matter) attempting to speak German, are you more inclined to think "Wow, he's actually making a dedicated effort" and help the person or "What a stupid person, can't even get the most basic thing right" and ignoring them?

(even though it should probably be the first, but since it's an easy thing for native-speakers they tend to forget that it take a lot of effort to learn to speak correct German) It would very likely be same way if a German who speaks/writes horrible English would post in English-speaking forum. I always feel inclined to correct the person's wrong grammar, spelling or use of the articles, but end up not doing it, because it would probably annoy the person more than motivate him to speak German more properly.
