So, is it worth to rent the movie? I heard mixed opinions so far.
I know, I meant I have no idea how good he is at what he does.
I like it. It's AVGN and full of cheesy moments that's enjoyable.

If you're a fan, what are you waiting for.
If you hate him, don't watch it.
If you're sorta indifferent, I'd say it depends. If you like B movies, cheesy effects, a silly plot and video games (and video game logic applied in "real life"), this can be a movie for you. It has all of these things, but also knows when to use modern effects to it's advantage. The story is very basic, but fun to follow nonetheless.
(Mind you, I'm a fan of James' work, so take this with a slight bias).
[sp]I got really angry when I thought he was going to review ET2, but why was the actual ET review during the credits? I was waiting for that shit the entire movie, and when they do it it has music playing over it and has names flying above the video.[/sp]

I have an idea about this. In the "Making of an AVGN Episode" Episode, he said for him to get ideas, he has to get inspired by the game he reviews. And I think he just didn't had that spark with the game for a long time (it was on his original list, as far as I recall).
But over the years, people started requesting the game more and more, which is where the idea for the movie came from. In the end, he didn't had much to say about the game itself [sp],even acknowledging that the game itself isn't even that bad and the whole reputation it got was more about the whole myth that has been created around it.[/sp]
And really, how much can you actually say about a single atari game? Everytime he got the Atari out, it was always about a compilation of games (Atari Porn games, Swordquest, Sports games, etc.)
I think the problem with this movie is it's trying too hard to pamper it's fanbase, instead of making a movie that's good in it's own right.
The dialogue is what really killed it, instead of trying to come up with actual funny jokes, they rely almost entirely on recycling old nerd one-liners, which kind of made me cringe to hear them in an actual movie.
Overall it was a real chore to watch and I don't think I can do it again. I can't stress enough how big of an impact AVGN made on my life, but this was just not very good.
I'm honestly not too sure what I think about this film. Like, I really love the AVGN and some of the quips are funny but I dunno, I'm just struggling to get through it slightly and I don't know why
As far as I know, no commercial BD releases are over 50GB dual layer discs.

I thought the maximum file size for a blu ray disc was something like 75GB.
[sp]sorry if offtopic[/sp]
I love the AVGN episodes and I can say without a doubt that the movie was shit
I just got done watching it and loved it. I think why some people might not like it is because you have to like B-movies, and the nerd. I would have fucking loved Mike and the other guy to be in the movie more then the other two people. The one guy just seemed to be there to move the story along and the one girl almost had no fucking point other then a joke or two. That being said I loved how much effort went into making the movie you can really tell they tried to get the feel of very cheap B-movie but still wanted something that you could enjoy.
My only complaint is that there wernt enough AVGN qualities in this. Like i wanted to see [sp]Super Mega Death Christ 2000, him using the Super Scope or Light Gun as a gun, Power Glove, Bugs Bunny, ROB.[/sp]

I didn't like the Nerd's jokes, one of my favorites was by Cooper though. The one where the Nerd says (No plot spoilers, just a joke)[sp]"It's like giving someone a present and then shitting on their doorstep" in which Cooper replies "So like Santa with Diarrhea?[/sp]

[sp]yeah i feel like they really missed the chance to bring out super mega death christ 2000 in the monster scenes[/sp]
His companions should have been Game Dude and Irate Gamer. That would be epic.
I did like the very subtle nods such as the [sp]Where did the hair go barber next to the game place[/sp] and [sp]Glitch Gremlin appearing for a split second on the OMG GRAND screen[/sp]
Liked the reference to his TMNT 3 review.
Does he actually review ET or no?
Sort of.
[sp]Though in the movie it's called Eee Tee[/sp]
[sp]Also there are Doug Walker and Lloyd Kaufman cameos[/sp]

There were cameos up the ass with that movie. Which for as high of a budget as this was. I don't think was handle very well cause you got people dressed up in normal places and it looked out of place.

What looked much out of place was Kyle Justin and Mike Matei during the almost second half of the movie, which as I remember, the Nerd (the character) doesn't really know Mike.
"Who the hell is Mike?"
(Quoted from the AVGN games review)
And as for Kyle Justin, or, "The Guitar Hobo Behind The Couch", doesn't seem like he's really the "Guitar Hobo Behind The Couch".
But watching Lloyd Kaufman and Doug Walker flipping the shit out when [sp]the Eee Tee Atari cartridges fly out of the Atari consoles[/sp] makes me giggle. I didn't recognize many of the cameos though, except for those and [sp]Bullshit Man and Shit Pickle on the OMG building[/sp].
That's because Doug is a talentless unfunny coattail-hiding hack
It probably has to do with the fact that he thought that filming a 3 hour movie (or longer considering it had deleted scenes despite the length) in less than a week was a good idea.
I think they could at least have him appear behind the couch or something, but maybe they actually thought of that but it wasn't practical or whatever.
IIRC he died again and his skeleton is still behind the couch.
Gotta have to agree this movie was awful and distanced itself too much from what I liked about avgn years ago..... the girl and the black dude didn't help either its like an elaborate nostalgia critic sketch.
My favorite cameo was keith Apicary.
When he came on for that whole 3 seconds I was like "oh man, please let the movie just focus on him for the next 20 minutes, at least then it might get a laugh out of me".
On a serious note: I appreciate the film for what it is, but I found it genuinely unfunny. It felt like an episode of AVGN, but with all the funny/extreme parts cut out of it. Like they held back for some reason.
Also, the soundtrack is goddam amazing:

The theme and Maverick Regeneration especially.
Holy shit, he got Bear McCreary to do the music?
I think they could at least have him appear behind the couch or something, but maybe they actually thought of that but it wasn't practical or whatever.
mike and guitar guy both appear in the movie, not sure if its supposed to be the character but he is definitely in there.
Holy shit, he got Bear McCreary to do the music?
They are good friends.

My biggest problem was, while watching it, I couldn't stop thinking 'we could have either have had this movie, or say 12 AVGN episodes' and I'll be honest, I would have much preferred more episodes.
I liked it, it's unique and has some fun moments. It's the kind of movie you either like or hate, depends if you "get" the humor or not. Although I will say it got a little over the top with the whole [sp]Area 51/alien[/sp] stuff.
I legit love this movie, its incredibly intelligent with all the satire, tongue-in-cheek and parody bits.
:quagmire:
I especially love when they broke the fourth wall. [sp]"Even my dreams are low budget!"[/sp]
The general was fucking hilarious tbh
