Kids today don't know much of anything about politics or world history.

While I'm disgusted at people not knowing much about world history or politics, I'm also disgusted at people who over-simplify certain concepts in history.
More specifically, wars. Take WWII for example. That war was not a simple war. Most people assume only the US, Britain, the USSR, Germany, and Japan did all the fighting. I guess that counts out the Chinese fighting the Japanese, all the resistance movements in Europe, and the Free soldiers fighting with the Allies (Polish, French, Belgian, Norwegian, etc.). Oh and also Italy. You might say Italy was poorly under-equipped and poorly trained, and that's true. They were. But they sure as hell weren't cowards, just as the French weren't cowards either. The Italians almost literally fought to the very last man, as the Allies would find out in Sicily.
But what gets me the most by far is the Napoleonic Wars. I know there isn't as much interest for that era than WWII, because WWII was...well, more recent. People all over the world have relatives who served in that conflict, and it still affects us today.
Nevertheless, it irritates me when very few people, even teachers, even history teachers, in my school has no idea on how the Napoleonic Wars started. "Oh, Napoleon fought some wars and also invaded Russia and there was a battle at Waterloo and stuff". That applies to both students and teachers.
And then there's the thing where Napoleon's targeted as a war-loving conqueror whose personal ambitions bled France white. That's, again, a oversimplification of a very complex man, but I'll leave that alone for now.
But what gets me the most, by far, is when I'm discussing the Napoleonic Era with my friends (who, unlike most, has a genuine understanding of the world and its political and military history), passerby or some dick abruptly says, are you talking about Napoleon Dynamite?
German unification
As in Otto Von Bismarck uniting them through Realpolitik? Just learned it in world history, wondering if any of that stuff actually stuck in my head correctly.
AP European History had its moments too. This one guy kept asking me for answers for our test on the 30 years was so I just started making up stuff. I told him about how the great Heinrich Himmler leading the Swedes to victory and raising the percentage of Christians in Europe. The teacher just circled his answered in red and wrote a large question mark.

I chuckled.
The amount of dumbasses at school is ridiculous, the ignorance in the building makes me want to scream. I'm glad I am only there for 2 hours a day now, I take my AP classes at a different building. I look forward to getting the hell out of there and up to college, a place where the intelligence to idiocy is higher.
You are correct rimor
Well, you sound like a fun guy to hang around with.
Well, you sound like a fun guy to hang around with.
He sounds like a guy that wants to go to school to learn rather than put up with the idiocies of commonplace school society. :downs:

Yes all that with the Franco-Prussian war and whatnot.
Yes all that with the Franco-Prussian war and whatnot.
Yay i remembered. Bastards never taught us anything about Italy though O:
History was presented to me in the most boring way possible by a boring person, with hardly any mention of why decisions were made. I thought history was the most boring thing ever, until college. Now it's the 3rd most boring thing ever.
The people in my American History class aren't that stupid. But it is a honors class. Not that I'm gloating or anything, just saying because in my regular classes, stupid remarks and ridiculous questions are frequent. We are covering Progressivism in my class at the moment.
My school is okay. I was the only one who knew what communism was when we were discussing Russia in geography, but I don't blame them for being ignorant about it seeing as I only learnt about it a few months ago...
Well, there was that one time when some guy said we should just nuke Iraq and leave it as a giant crater. :geno:

That happened to me, too; except it was the majority of the class, not just one guy.
I don't have a single fucking clue why small kids have any kind of reason to say that today's kids bla bla bla.
How the fuck do you people even know?
Yeah, everyone was a fucking genius in the 70's, you just fucking missed out.
Ya know, you could've been slightly more subtle.
But then again, you've got a reputation concerning that sort of stuff.
I strongly hate my little brother at times. Why? Whenever me and my older brother or my parents are having a discussion based on shit that's going on right now, he always asks what the hell's going on so we have to explain everything to him, and this shit happens ALL THE FUCKING TIME. He never EVER reads the papers and never EVER watches the news.
And before you say 'well, he's your little brother, don't expect him to know everything'; he turned 15 in november, you'd expect him to know shit by now.
Offtopic: HOLY SHIT 2000TH POST!!!!!
You can't blame the kids. Blame the teachers or the parents. Its not their fault that they don't know anything. They need to be taught
He sounds like a dumbass.
You sound like Captain Obvious.
You can't blame the kids. Blame the teachers or the parents. Its not their fault that they don't know anything. They need to be taught
Actually, you can. A lot of things can be self-taught, including History.
Actually, you can. A lot of things can be self-taught, including History.
But. The parents need to put the right mindset into the kids when they are growing up so that they want to learn

Actually, you can blame the kids. It is their fault they do not try in school. You could have the best teaching staff in the world and you could have the most motivational parents, but if the kid does not want to learn, you cannot do a damn thing about it.
Well it's not like it's anything particularly new subject that kids aren't learning important subjects, I remember when I was in junior school learning how to make a marble bag, where we just sewed two pieces of cloth together on 3 ends and called it a bag.
We got extra marks for cross stitching.
He sounds like a guy that wants to go to school to learn rather than put up with the idiocies of commonplace school society. :downs:
No, he sounds like an arrogant prick who think's he is smarter than everyone else. Yes, there are some idiots in this world, but that doesn't mean you have to look down on them.
My senior year, this one girl asked "What is an Al Qaeda?"
We convinced her it was a half elephant, half donkey.
I'm fucking serious. :|
my class mates are not that dumb but some of them are as dull as an axe that hit a metal boulder!it gets so anoying that those retards cant even find IRAN!!!!!!!!!! im the only one in my class who can actualy reads about history! and they always argue about every thing under the sun and want to nuke every body as a simple way to ending a war and dont get me started on the other class!!!
This forum is only full of bored nerds complaining about other peoples lack of knowledge and how they are oh-so intellectually superior to them.
Well, there was that one time when some guy said we should just nuke Iraq and leave it as a giant crater. :geno:
I hate having to deal with ignorant people at school. Once a kid questioned why people who had a college degree made more money than hard labor. He could not interpret the fact that a person working hard labor is easily replaceable, while someone with a degree is harder to come by. These are the people that the rest of the world see and why they hate the America.
I don't hang around with kids so I wouldn't know.
Bearer of bad news here but Facepunch is full of kids.
No, he sounds like an arrogant prick who think's he is smarter than everyone else. Yes, there are some idiots in this world, but that doesn't mean you have to look down on them.
Arrogant prick. Really? No, there are always dumb people and smart people in different subjects, I just pointed out ones in history classes. I, for example, am not very skilled at Chemistry.
My friend thought that we pay taxes to apple...
Yay i remembered. Bastards never taught us anything about Italy though O:
You didn't miss much. It was the most boring part of the section, even more so when you stood it next to German unification. I think there was one question on the AP test about it and it was "who did it?" It was a small blip involving Italy in between the Renaissance and WWII which would otherwise be empty.
So there was this one time that all these kids in my class didn't know this basic thing I've known about for a while, so I was like "ugghh" and posted stuff in Facepunch. Ignorant children, why must they be so foolish? Facepunch, full of fellow intellectuals, should agree. I believe we should sit and laugh at these idiotic masses and take pride in our superiority. :smug:
Am I the only one getting that kind of vibe from this thread? I'm not sure what is worse: Idiots in school or nerds sitting on their virtual high horses. Give people some credit; there may be some asshats here and there, but I'm sure there are just as many people who think you're a giant twat for every time you make a mistake that seems simple to them.

Now tell me, would I be justified to make a thread complaining about how kids like you don't know much about chemistry? I don't think you should refer to people lacking in the subject of history/politics as "oblivious and lazy" if you yourself have weak points.
It seems to me a lot of people are just that way to act cute.
