I rated you informative because calling me stupid gave me a sudden revelation of your point.
It is entirely true that having AIDS or cancer would be orders of magnitude worse than having diabetes. Although his use of the word "pussy" could understandably have been misconstrued to refer to those who suffer from diabetes rather than the disease itself, it seems to me that we've established that this was not what Oecleus intended to say. Additionally, the word "pussy" is inherently associated with derision and was probably not the most effective and least inflammatory word Oecleus could have used.
However, I must disagree with any suggestions that diabetes is only a "hassle." Yes, it's true that the fatality rate with modern medicine is low; however, there are a host of non-fatal complications that can occur to diabetics late in life, even those with good control of their blood sugars. Diabetic retinopathy leading to blindness has been mentioned several times in this thread already; additional concerns are circulatory problems in the extremities. I personally know someone who had to have one foot and all but the big toe on the other foot amputated as they literally died while still attached to her.
AIDS and cancer would be worse than diabetes. It is important to stress the relative nature of this description; one could compare it to the difference between being shot in the lung and being shot in the foot. Being shot in the lung would, of course, be worse, but being shot in the foot would still be painful and even potentially life threatening. It's differentiating between bad and more bad.
