Well, assuming it IS a demon, i would probably assume it's using her. So, naturally, she knows german and they use it to communicate to the others in the room with her(IE, the priests and apparently her mother at the end). She didn't JUST speak in german, that was only one recorded session.
Are you really inferring that she may have actually been possessed?
According the forensic evidence, "Anneliese starved to death". Specialists claimed that if the accused would have begun with forced feeding one week before her death, Anneliese's life would have been saved. One sister told the court that Anneliese did not want to go to a mental home where she would be sedated and forced to eat. The exorcists tried to prove the presence of the demons, playing taped recordings of strange dialogues like that of two demons arguing about which one of them would have to leave Anneliese's body first. One of the demons called himself Hitler, and spoke with a Frankish accent (Hitler was born in Austria). Not one of those present during the exorcism ever had a doubt about the authenticity of the presence of these demons.
everyone can believe whatever they want i dont give a fuck. i hate it when people bash at other peoples religions. Fact is, that church and how religion was exploited, sucks.
Btw, 12 year old atheists who just want to revolt should be executed
Yes thank you mr historian I was not aware
I wasn't stating the obvious any more than you were
Also, telling people to keep religious opinions out of this thread is kind of a null argument, because the entire basis of these claims is only going to be supported by one's own belief in whether or not demons exist. There's no actual demonic proof, nothing argues againt the likelyhood that she was simply acting crazy, like people who speak in tongues at church. They may believe that god is speaking through them, but that doesn't mean anything.

You guys can't tell me that's not a bit strange.
Speaking in accents and other LANGUAGES?

People can be multilingual.
I'm a teenager and an atheist, does that mean I'm automatically a rebellious twat?
Get possessed; Learn new languages.
You guys can't tell me that's not a bit strange.

Your subconscious contains a wealth of information that you simply don't know how to access under normal circumstances. We've all heard snippets of other languages throughout our lifetimes, and there's no reason that extreme stress combined with some kind of mental problem couldn't tap into these reserves and compile accents and phrases in languages that we don't normally fluently speak.
You guys can't tell me that's not a bit strange.

I already explained why that happens. Foreign Language Syndrome.

It's not a bit strange, what is it with you people looking for something magical? Let's go over this.
1. She was a teenager, we all have some sort of capability to understand how emotional teens can get.
2. Deeply religious, scientifically, and logically, to be religious is irrational. I don't see how she could have been that smart.
3. Trauma, when you're threatened with eternal pain suffering and hell fire, for breaking some stupid rules, even slightly, all this from a young age, how isn't that a traumatic experience.
4. Mental issues, some people develop mental disorders, being born with them, just bad luck and so on.
Combine all of the above and tell me that the result doesn't have a chance to become fucking crazy? Especially considering this is a pretty rare instance, as most would have gone to see DOCTORS, not PRIESTS.
spooky :(
2. Deeply religious, scientifically, and logically, to be religious is irrational. I don't see how she could have been that smart.
Having a religion doesn't make you less smart. Einstein believed in god. In fact, I bet she was exceptionally smart and did a lot of studying which is how she knew these languages.
you give me a good proof that god doesnt exist and you re not.

First off, wonderful spelling you have. Secondly, take a class on logic. There is a default position on everything, and it's impossible to disprove a negative. If there is no evidence for the existence of something, then the logical position is that it doesn't exist. There's no in between here. I'm not claiming to know that there isn't a god. I'm stating the fact that there is no evidence for the existence of one, therefor until evidence is presented, it's irrational to believe in one.

Knowledge isn't intelligence. If you believe in a god, despite it being quite obviously illogical, I can't see how you say they are smart. Further more, "Einstein believed in god", I'd ask for proof, but it doesn't matter as this is an appeal to authority logical fallacy.

woah thats a good call, calling me out for not spelling correctly in my native language. lets see how you good you are in greek, idiot.
going by your logic if you cant prove that somethig doesnt exist it may as well exist. thats the point i was trying to make. there is no evidence that god exists, and there is no evidence that he doesnt exist.therefore that is not a valid argument.

You can't learn logic in a logic class, it's a natural thing and they've taught you wrong. The logical answer is not to assume it doesn't exist, the logical answer is to accept you don't know and either ignore it or try harder to find a conclusion.

Actually I was wrong Einstein's beliefs were way less dogmatic than I thought but there have been plenty of religious geniuses.
But to say that there is no god is the same as to say there is a god. Both of these are leaps of faith and assumptions. They do not reflect in any way one's intelligence. If you can say somebody is stupid for believing in god, I can say the same about you, because it's actually just as illogical to believe there is no god. But it's a matter of philosophy and has no relevance.

I'm not American, my native language is Russian. Spelling isn't difficult, as Firefox comes with a spell checker, grammar is the same, punctuation and capitalization is the same. You're just an idiot.
1. You're obviously not understanding me. If someone claims that X exists, but presents no evidence for the existence of X, then it is illogical/irrational to believe in X.
2. The entire point is that because there is no evidence in either direction, it's illogical to believe in a god.

i wasnt the one commenting on the spelling part. anyway
1. i understand your logic. i am just saying that following that logic, if you cant disprove the existence of X, it is just as illogical to not believe in X
2.both things are illogical.it is up to anyone to believe what he wants. all i am saying is that having no proof for something is not a valid argument for disproving it.
You can't learn logic in a logic class, it's a natural thing and they've taught you wrong. The logical answer is not to assume it doesn't exist, the logical answer is to accept you don't know and either ignore it or try harder to find a conclusion.
Way to pull things out of your ass. Let's start here, "The logical answer is not to assume it doesn't exist" your proof for this is? Anyway next, "the logical answer is to accept you don't know and either ignore it or try harder to find a conclusion." You have absolutely 0 supporting evidence. Have you ever heard of the scientific method? By your logic, nothing can ever be wrong and you should just ignore the issue or keep trying to prove your point despite lacking any evidence. Which is actually what religious people do. They ignore that they have no evidence for their claims, and yet continue to back them up.
Actually I was wrong Einstein's beliefs were way less dogmatic than I thought but there have been plenty of religious geniuses.
You completely missed my point. It doesn't matter if they believed in it, geniuses aren't perfect, they may be smart. They come up with theories from experimentation, and test them, and improve them, you can't apply the same thing to god.
How dense can you get? I never said there isn't a god, nor did I claim there was one. There's no evidence for either or, why the fuck would I say I know which one it is. It is not a leap of faith to say that there is no evidence for something therefore I don't believe in it. You do this quite regularly, as I'm assuming you don't believe in unicorns or that 9/11 was caused by aliens and the LHC.
Okay here is an example of where your logic fails. Let us assume, X doesn't exist. Therefore how could you EVER disprove it's existence? To disprove something that has evidence, you need counter evidence. To disprove something that has no evidence, you simply need to show it has no evidence.

no, not really .you need evidence that proves it doesnt exist. you cant rule out a possibility just because you cant find evidence.
Jesus Christ my point is you can believe in god and still be smart fuck.
We're talking about philosophy not fucking science. If you can't prove something or disprove it scientifically it's philosophy. You don't get what I'm saying because you're dumb as shit. If you can't prove or disprove, you can't fucking prove or fucking disprove. So who gives a shit.
If you try I personally think it's a waste of time but I won't judge you by it. But here you are trying to push an answer and then judging other people for trying to push an answer and that makes you a giant shithead hypocrite.

I never ruled out the possibility. Can you at least read? Please provide me with an example of evidence that would totally disprove something beyond any shadow of a doubt.
