Well I've been in university for a whole week now and I'm falling back into my good old high school mentality. It's just seeming like everyone has settled in to their own little groups now. And there are cute girls in my classes and I lack the confidence to talk to them now, whereas for the first couple days I would have been all over that.
[editline]8th September 2012[/editline]
Hell, on thursday a girl seemingly purposefully sat beside me in a class but I was still too autistic to talk to her. That and her hair was almost as short as mine which made me almost instantly assume lesbian, as bad as that sounds.
The only thing in college/uni that differs from high school is that there are no petty intrigues and all that crap. There are, however the small groups, and "the groups".
The fact is, sooner or later you're going to have your own group either you want it or not. If not a group then a circle of friends and work partners.
Sooner or later you'll need to establish relations with someone due to assignments, study, etc etc. When that time comes, make sure you use that to talk to a girl. For example, if an assignent requires a pair, join a girl for that assignment. Although you may not want that specific girl to establish a friendship, you may want to use that to feel more comfortable around girls with time.
Don't worry though. It'll come naturally.

I already have a few friends at least. About half of them are girls.
I think on tuesday I'm going to sit by that girl if I see her and actually talk to her this time.
idk what it is about it but when girls have short hair, it makes them usually way more attractive
maybe its because it sets them apart from the rest
And on the first day I was here I was talking to all kinds of girls so I don't know why I suddenly turned autistic again.
I'm still worried she might though-- then I'd look like a complete idiot.
I'm scared. Only really known her for 2 days...
seriously just do it. nothing to lose and she seems interested in you. you won't look dumb of you don't ask in a really weird way. I asked a girl I'd known for a few hours out and there was no big embarrassment. granted she said no but it was all good afterwards.

When it comes to short hair, I generally prefer a bob cut to a pixie cut.

It depends on the girl, and their facial features.

which decade do you live in lol
idk what it is about it but when girls have short hair, it makes them usually way more attractive

yeah, it usually stands out a lot imo. plus it emphasizes their facial features
there's just a lot more you can do with short hair, too. long hair is pretty unvaried, you can tie it back or something but that's about it
i just keep my hair short because it's easier though. my hair gets unruly after a certain length, i always cut it as soon as it starts getting ridiculously wavy
which decade do you live in lol
I knew that was probably going to dig me into a hole.
I mean chances are if there were like a million other seats open and she chose to sit beside me specifically she's probably straight. And she was cute, especially considering I don't like pixie cuts that much. I wouldn't have even brought her up if I didn't find her at least a little bit attractive. So yeah, I guess I have until tuesday to decide if I'm going to take a chance with her or not.

pixie cuts used to be fashionable like 5 years ago tell her to get with the times

I'm not even sure what to call it I just use pixie cut as a generic term for a girl's short haircut. Her hair kind of looked to be like halfway between a bob cut and pixie cut though.
Fashion is bullshit, you pick a haircut to suit your face :v:
I've had most of my hair "pixie" style but i've always kept some bangs, cause I need an uneven line to make my face more "oval" or some shiz.
Most of my hair was usually buzzed though. I've kept it longer since my sisters wedding and think I'll keep it for now (warm for the winter :D) and summer i'm cutting it back short again. Much better and way easier to take care of.
Long hair really does all look the same to me...

If you live on campus, go to residence parties. If you live off campus, go to residence parties.

I would just like to say that these do not exist. At least at my university, if you would walk out into the dorm hallway with a beer, within seconds there'd be an RA with a pen writing you up, and you'd have to go to an alcohol awareness class.
EDIT:
I am also struggling socially at college. I can force myself to approach people, but I'm bloody nervous. The thing is, I don't get thoughts like "these people think I'm a loser blah blah" - I just get the actual symptoms of being nervous, you know, sort of sweating, minor stuttering, that kind of thing. I think at a party I might honestly be unable to function.
uhh

So i met this really cool girl at my friend's birthday party.
Too bad shes in a long distant relationship.
Oh well. But we share like 5 friends, and we all decided to throw a mini-party/get together/nerd gathering next week or sometime. Glad i didn't stay home and study for Bio and Chem instead.
Got back from camp yesterday. Met a girl there that i like and got her number. just right now we finished a conversation and i told her my feelings about her, and she said that she likes me too.
Feels good man.Feels good.

give her the descartes
Why would you look like a complete idiot? If everybody had that mindset nobody would ask anybody out. Ask her to go shopping or something and then go for a drink after. Don't offer the drink until you're actually shopping but if she says no to the initial offer because she has a boyfriend you can say "Oh I didn't mean like that! I'm glad you think like that though :)" That way the role is reversed and you have nothing to fear.
People have one night stands all the time, you've known her twice as long! haha all jokes aside, you'll have plenty more time to get to know her while shopping or whatever date you choose, just don't choose something that everybody does, eg cinema, dinner, coffee etc. Find something fun like wall climbing or something.
I think I'm going to leave it a week or two more. If there was anything mutual, I'd act on it, unless if she has a boyfriend, which I should be able to find out about after a while.
I'm always way too cautious about this shit!
I keep writing and erasing a long, whiny letter about how unhappy and frustrated I am with where my life's at, and about how badly I wish I could just take a break from it, but I guess I don't really need to clarify. Living on the edge of the poverty line makes life a real drag for big dreamers. I wonder if this is how my dad felt, when he was my age, and get scared that I'm just following in his footsteps. He built a safe and comfortable life for us, but he never once got to go see the world, never had any big adventures. That's a terrifying thought for me, that I could become so focused on building a safe future that I completely neglect enjoying it.
Sometimes I fantasize about quitting school and working two jobs for a year, so that I can save up enough money to have one good adventure, but I know that's a terrible idea for the long run. All it'd do is set me back even farther, and force me to stay in this rut for a whole 'nother year. I'd be thirty before I was out of school.
Oi. I need a change in my life, but I don't know what to do about it. I have less than a hundred bucks a month in disposable income, and the next eight years look much the same. How do I do any of the things I want to do without sacrificing the things I need to do?
a real drag for big dreamers
welcome to modern western life
as sad as it is, a large proportion of people have their adventures when they are much much older. retired older. most people have to work at something they're not particularly interested in for the majority of their lives so that they'll have enough money to cram their adventures in at the last minute before they die
unless you're lucky enough to do something you love for your whole life which can be an adventure in itself, but only a few people in that position actually make money too

Wow, that sounds pretty bad.
This is my university in a nutshell:
