well, i'm 22
So I hear people talking about this "maverick" guy every once in a while, I guess I joined up after he left or whatever happened to him? Anyways, I tried googling "maverick facepunch" to see if I could find the guy and came across this. I can see how people could get tired of someone like that (assuming that's what he was like and wasn't just joking?) but that's golden. Also just added him on steam after realizing his whole name was maverickib and not just maverick. I'm really curious what this guy is all about, especially considering I just figured out he goes to the same college I do. Small world.
i'm just curious how old everyone in this thread is, because most of these issues seem to be junior high problems. [editline]4th March 2012[/editline] example^
I'm 18. I take it that I'm not normal unless I get high and receive blowjob from a prostitute in a dark alley?
I'm 20.
16 here, not that I ever do anything but lurk.
Nearly 20 here.
22
I was 21 a week or so a go. I've realised now that it's from here onwards you get to go "Hey, remember XYZ? That was 10 years ago." and then have a bit of a sad day.
23... still younger than Thisispain [editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
maverick was a guy who got laid, and would get the girls his way of giving advice to other people got him banned but in his defense people don't seem to take messages very well on the internet and the seemingly best way is to bash the fuck out of them until they realize their issues and fix them on their own
That's so true.
22
Bullshit. You've got to be, like, eighteen. God, parties are too much fun. e. And I am seventeen, since we are all stating our ages.
23... still younger than Thisispain [editline]4th March 2012[/editline] That's so true.
Call me an old fashioned sissy but I think being patient and explaining something to someone over and over until they see what you mean is a better way. Otherwise you just turn other people into shouty brash dickheads who think they're bad ass. It's pretty exhausting though, so I tend to not bother and just be like "Hmm hmm, shit man" - unless I'm pissed in which case I'll be like "HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO! LET ME BE UNDERSTANDING!", or I just walk off and look for some girldem. [editline]4th March 2012[/editline] Oh hang on he meant in terms of the internet, ignore me I'm a dickhead.
15 i'm like a toddler compared to you guys jeez
23... still younger than Thisispain [editline]4th March 2012[/editline] That's so true.
I agree :) [editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
Bullshit. You guys won't believe this shit, but I actually ran into maverick just an hour or so ago at my school's recreation center. He was lifting weights right next to me for 15 minutes or so before I looked over and thought "This guy looks oddly familiar." Then it clicked, I had just seen his facebook profile a few hours ago when I posted that video I found. I'm a /fit/izen so when I saw him pull out a sheet of paper that had Zyzz's workout plan on there, I went, "Zyzz was pretty badass right? By the way, would you happen to go by the name maverick online?" I guess he's not the nicest guy in the world? He just looked at me all pissed off and said, "I'm lifting, faggot." So yeah, can totally see why the guy is banned.
I do not want to pick on Maverick but his methods to give advice where pretty shitty. I get the point that some people need a major kick in the ass to get their issues right. But he just flamed people to death. That is not pretty efficent.

I completely agree that being patient, explaining and helping the person to work out their issues is the best method. But when it comes to the internet, you have to be as big of an asshole as possible to get people to really look inward and maybe change. Well, you were around when he was so you obviously have much more credibility than I, but he must have done something right to make such an impression. I mean, people seem to (generally) dislike him, but people dislike a lot of guys. People get banned on forums and then are instantly forgotten, only to come up in very specific situations. The internet just has an extremely short attention span. But people are still saying this guy's name months(?) after he's gone. I dunno when he was banned, but apparently he had already been gone for quite some time before I arrived because I didn't see any posts by him or anything like that. People are constantly being compared to him, saying stuff like, "You're the next maverick" and whatnot. Obviously he did much more than just flame/piss people off if he's left such an impression. But then again, I don't really know shit about the guy, other than he's an asshole. Assholes are all over the internet though, what did he do that made him worthy of such notoriety? [editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
Should have interrogated him.
Ehhhh, I'm not a very confrontational guy. He's not the biggest guy in the world, but I'm always wary around people who so readily embrace conflict. PS: Sorry if I'm digging up graves or something. Pretty sure you guys are tired of talking about the guy; don't mean to prod around too much. I'm just very curious, he's like the Zyzz of this little corner of FP.

Narcissism: The man was full of himself, and made worse with the popularity the Love Advice section gave him before the section was transitioned to a Chat Thread. He believed he could get away with pretty much anything on this forum, and nearly did until (I think it was Johnny) banned him. 2. Asshole: He was an asshole and gladly admitted he would show us little to no pity. He kind of defined the "best way" to help people on this forum work on the courage to get dates/talk to women. 3. Advice: He gave solid advice at first. The phrases "Do you like a girl... ASK HER OUT" were popularized by him. Shit, he even started a blog and posted some of its contents on the forum. 4. Story-Telling: He had the best stories to tell about his experiences and how he came about to become a ladies man. His first story being that of him being a total chode and not knowing where he was going with his life. The second and more popular story being his telling of how he fucked a fatty. 5. Maverick: He was different than everyone else in the thread. His way of giving advice was contentious (similar to Seith), reliable in most situations, and his delivery made him stand out among the rest of us. Hopefully this answers your question.
I agree, although Sprocketshit or whatever his name was worse. That guy was a real asshole.
Thanks Evilan, makes sense to me, especially after skimming through his blog.
what did he do that made him worthy of such notoriety?
we had our little circle and group but maverick always aggressively fought and argued with everyone so basically it looked like maverick next to a group of ignorable gits and i think he fancied it that way. that's why not everyone hit it off with him.
I didn't really ever mind Maverick so much because I never saw him as some infallible beacon of flawless social advice or whatever else. As much as he'd never admit it, he was like anyone else in these threads; he had his own issues, he was jaded in his own way. Of course, he came from experience and often had decent advice, but the way he expressed his own insecurities offended and discouraged many people which really just damaged the overall LA community (aside from the deletion of the sub-forum of course). And if you're still curious Shovelpass, this was the thread he got perma'd in. That message was the last we heard from him besides a few alts. BDA's post on the bottom of page 136 is what sparks it and Mav's post on the following page is where it all comes out. It's all pretty hilarious in retrospect.
maverick was overall fine until he cracked at flipped out at bda
I couldn't understand that. BDA is a quality poster and is always nice to people as far as I've seen on here, and he cracked at him of all the people that he dealt with.
Shovelpass is maverick calling it right now
Maybe he was just having one of those days? Doesn't excuse what he did, but I can relate to it. Hell, I was having one of those days just yesterday, everything was going wrong and I ended up chewing out one of my co-workers. Luckily, I have a good reputation and relationship with my boss so he let it slide. I guess when you're not on good terms with people, you're not allowed very many strikes.
Same exact writing style, albiet with a more reigned in voice. You can't fool me maverick! [editline]4th March 2012[/editline] "lathe" me in zings
+ the avatar. Maverick would make tons of references to the movie top gun, including in his name.
