Cause the Canadian army doesn't do shit.
Done a massive chunk of fighting on the western front in WW1 and done a metric fuck ton in france in WW2 if i remember correctly.
I love how everyone ignored this and just went to restate their previous opinions over and over again.
because it's not some right wing opinion that can be denied.
ITT: attention seeking people who served the army cant get a job so they sit on fp
Oh goodness their last ever post?! Hopefully Garry will archive it so we can re-read it and remember them.
Would you rather that your last ever post on this forum before you die was you calling someone a "fag lololololololol" in the OIFY? What if it was you making a hateful comment about another user because of their sexual preference? I think everyone would rather have their final words on this forum be both a thank you to garry and all the other users of the forum for the good times, and a proper goodbye. I admit, I have no compassion for the armed forces, or what they are doing, but for someone to go and risk their lives in the hope that they can improve the world just a small amount, and ask nothing in return for that than a moderate wage and a roof over their heads while they are in Afghanistan, is the greatest thing that a citizen of any country can do.

I think their last post would be before they deploy.
Nope, being in the army pretty much means you weren't qualified enough for the real jobs, so it's hardly an accomplishment.
This is the only job that can physically punishes you, along with garnishing your wages, and stacking on more tasks for you to do. Unless you are a complete moron or you just screwed up royally, it's hard to mess it up.
Sit around and wait for orders? Meh, that's the bad thing about your big armys. My dad was in the German Navy, and he said he hardly ever had a day without anything happening. Anyway, I guess this threads should go to fast threads, but noone is holding you at gunpoint and making you read them. We should have a military subforum in Livestyle and Hobbies IMO
We should have a military subforum in Livestyle and Hobbies IMO
To few people to make it happen I think.
Merchant marines all the way!
I don't think the "oh i am going to training" is annoying. The "I just got from basic training" is annoying as hell. They think they are the man after completing the most basic training. [editline]04:21PM[/editline]
Nope, being in the army pretty much means you weren't qualified enough for the real jobs, so it's hardly an accomplishment.
Not always tho. those that are in the army and are professionals don't post here though.
See this is what I hate. Saying that in some way, they're serving the country more then I am because they choose to join the military. Like I said, if my country was attacked, I would fight to defend it.
It doesn't mean you're as good as the army, i would rather have a trained Army recruit than have you defending my country. Also, you wouldn't last a second out there if your country was attacked.
could care less
This really grinds my gears.
Nope, being in the army pretty much means you weren't qualified enough for the real jobs, so it's hardly an accomplishment.
Bit of a narrow opinion you have.. There are many highly skilled jobs in the armed forces that you require years of training to be any good at. For example, I could join the Royal Engineers, and get paid to learn a trade. Leave the Army, and easily make £40,000 a year. And live comfortably for the rest of my life. Or I could go to a college, spend four years juggling between that and a shitty part time job, and then struggle to find a job. I can guarantee you, if you have 2 people apply for the same job, with the same set of skills on them, the employer will take the person that has served over the other any day of the week. Having that on your CV shows employers that you're a disciplined, hard working, mature individual. That's what they want. Don't brush it off so quickly.
I must agree with sami. I respect people who chose to join the armed forces but you lose all that respect when you start swaggering around and not respecting other peoples choices. Maybe some people don't want to be shot at and if you are professional enough to respect that you wont be going around mashing in their faces how "badass" you are and look down upon them. Its just plain elitism. I'm glad that some are modest enough like testabar to not want all the special treatment that people just out of basic are seeking. And the army isn't just for people who can't get a job. I plan on going to uni and getting a bachelor in Vet medicine and then joining the Royal Army Veterinary Corps as an officer (if I can with my hearing loss and which requires a Degree). This should then help me get good placements as a civilian Vet.
Holy crap, if you don't like the threads DON'T click on them. No ones forcing you to read every single damn thread posted. Get a life, join the Army or do something constructive.
They are doing a great service and they deserve recognition. I see what you are sayinng though
Good luck with that.
Thanks. I'm on track with my grades, predicted A/A* in all subjects, and am in the Army Cadets, so I think it is feasible. Alot could go wrong though and its quite along time off.
It seems there is at least one or two threads on the GD front page everyday about some guy going to training. Ok yeah we get it, you are serving our country. That's great, and we all respect the army, but we could care less about you going individually. You aren't some Chuck Norris baddass now, you are probably just going to sit around waiting to get deployed. Like I said I, along with every other American, respects the U.S military services, but I am not going to think, "Oh man that 1337noobraper dude is so brave and he is going to save the whole country all by himself!" It just irritates me how so many people think they will garner a lot of reputation as a badass here on an internet forum. Like it is a huge accomplishment.
It irritates me that you think joining the country is all about being brave, when it's not. Chances are you couldn't get past basic training. If you do, you come out a different man than when you joined. The army is a major life changing event and for a lot of people, it's what they needed.

How many people out of Facepunch's entire community actually do something noteworthy that they feel very accomplished of? Probably a good 10%. Joining the armed forces is a major accomplishment in a person's life because it acts as a great stepping stone to hundreds of other possibilities. If someone feels proud of that, they can post it all they want. You'd feel good if you just got the career of your dreams and you'd want to tell as many people as possible, too. inb4 "that makes them an egocentric dick"
But you have to remember that 90% of USA are :patriot: pricks. Let them have their fun, it's not like those threads are clogging the forum or something. Sucking on dicks of army is apparently a long lived tradition in USA. Actually, I do rather read a thread from some guy who explains how he's doing in training than reading about Emma Watson cutting her hair off or the massive amount of misplaced stuff belonging to "The News" or fast threads.

Thinking they know everything and can graduate basic training in a breeze. Instead they get pushed down to the lowest level, are told they're not worth anything until you make something of yourself, and get their heads and ego out of the clouds. Think of all the kids who go into the army with a bad attitude and come out respectful, polite, and no more high egos of themselves. The army changes who you are. They take you off of where you think you were and put you down at where you really are in this world. Nothing.
I never said it doesn't change who you are. But what I am saying is that, no matter who the person is, they're still happy about it.

Them passing basic training is more than you've ever done, even me.
I can't believe you people are still raging about people joining the Army so you can sit on your fat lazy asses. Your all a bunch of selfish pricks.
Cause the Canadian army doesn't do shit.
No army does anything. It's Basically, Step 1. Retrace steps of previous mission Step 2. Pin down enemy or Vice Versa Step 3. Shoot or Be shot Step 4. Retreat, claim victory Step 5. Repeat

[editline]05:04PM[/editline]
That doesn't make sense son.
Makes great sense.
I should make a thread about "joining" the army as a trainee. I feel like a fucking badass.
