Why do manufacturers insist on cramming as much useless shit into a car as possible?

I don't get why people say A/C is needed.
My Impreza has ice cold A/C (After having it on for a few minutes, you will shiver) and I haven't found it necessary. I used to live in Maine and never used it (except a few times in the winter to defrost the windshield quicker)
Now I live in North Carolina and still don't use it.
I just roll down my window and turn off the blower and it stays cool in my car.
Same with cruise control. I drove 1000 miles from Maine to North Carolina in my car without using it, and got about 30 mpg all the way.
my truck has no luxuries at all (minus leather seats out of a solstice... god they are so comfortable) and i am 100% content with it. Everyone in the era was.

Everyone in that "era" was because they didnt expect anything more, but now we have the tech to make it possible, people in this "era" expect these luxuries

Drive through Nevada with no A/C and then tell me it's unnecessary.
I'll agree, there are a lot of things in cars that I would classify as not needed, but a lot of those things are a nice convenience to have around. On my 09 Cobalt, the radio controls on the wheel are really handy instead of reaching for the buttons on the center console and having to look down. The Bluetooth phone connectivity and hands-free calling has proven many times to be useful, and I'm fond of the chilling A/C in the hotter summer months.
That said, I've never found a need for heated seats or backup cameras, though I could see why someone would prefer them.

Well yeah, if you're up north or central, you don't need it. But when I get into my car in the afternoon, it's a hundred degrees outside, it's a hundred and thirty in the car, and the humidity is so hot that you get even hotter when you sweat. Such is life in Florida.

Same in new mexico, my ac is mediocre at best and even with it on, I'm drenched in sweat and panting the whole ride. Sucks. I'd like to move up north eventually

It's been averaging 95* here lately with high humidity. I just took my car for a drive with just my window down and had no problems
Plus I like all the gadgets. I don't live in an area with fun roads, They're nice and smooth yeah, but boring. A good radio, sweet AC and all the stuff are really nice to have.
In other news, some Kid drove a silver 911 to school today. Brand fucking new. No idea why his parents would let him drive that.
I wouldn't mind having satnav as well, because i am horrible at direction

Damn, and I thought a kid driving a new Lexus at my school was bad.
when I was in high school there was a girl driving a Mercedes R63 AMG
I live in a fairly well off neighborhood, and I swear I counted at least 5 M3s in the high school parking lot. 3 Series are like Corollas here
de-railments everywhere.
Speaking of de railment, I see Mercedes, BMWs, Audi etc in my lot all the time.
power-folding mirrors. When the fuckity fuck am i going to use that?
I don't give a rats hairy ass about heated seats or a TV screen or whatever the fuck.
Maybe not where you're from, but here in Finland (and in other cold places) when it gets to minus 30 degrees celsius during the wintertime those heated seats are pretty useful when your ass is literally freezing off and you can't even feel your buttocks no more.
And folding mirrors are useful in places like big historic cities where the roads are narrow as fuck.

At least this kid didn't own it, it was his parents. There are a few M5's at my school too. And last year I saw an IS-F.
I hate cars with the weird ass flappy paddles that control up or down on either of them. The ones where you click it back to shift up, and click it towards you to shift down. They could've gone with a normal flappy paddle set where one controls up and one controls down, but you know DAMN WELL that's in there so dipshits can flappy shift one handed while talking on the phone or jacking off with the other.
New bimmers do this and it pisses me off.

I have no idea if they control shifting up like that though, I've never driven one fast enough.

I've never heard of that flappy paddle system

they say that they made it that way because when you're turning the wheel, they don't want people losing track of where their up/down paddles are
I don't know if the reason why they did it is so that people can talk while they shift, because if they wanted to talk on their phones, they'd put it in automatic mode?

they want to make you feel like you are driving a rally car?
they want to make you feel like you are driving a rally car?
rally cars have a sequential stick :v:
watched a vid yesterday and some have wheel button for up and down.
In other news, Ken Block's Fiesta still has Ford Sync in it so he can listen to his jams and take calls while racing.
Even though all I'd bet you'd hear is: "VBROOOOOOOOOAAAAAABUMPBUMPRVRVRVRVROOOOOM".
I want a fridge, a TV and most of all a fucking toilet in my car.
I want a fridge, a TV and most of all a fucking toilet in my car.
Xzibit would be happy to help you with that
Are you saying that I don't need the Mini Cooper's useful and interesting "Openometer?"
My car doesn't even have cup-holders.
And what about that phone that can turn cars on and off remotely? Why the fuck would you need to turn your car on or unlock the doors if your nowhere near it?
So you can warm up your car in the winter, and cool it down in the summer, before you get in? So you can unlock the doors if it's raining, so you don't get soaked as you're trying to shove the key into the slot?

My parents got remote start on their car so that they can warm it up in the winter so it's nice when they get in
other than that I can't really think of a reason though.

Come to Minnesota in the dead of winter and then say that. -10 F or colder is normal here.
