I think it's an OK design, they could improve it by having the guide go vertically then make it so the video and comment boxes go to the left and suggestions go to the right, possibly with bigger icons or more suggestions to fill the space on widescreen monitors.
Why is there no dark grey around the video like there used to be? Having white around the video player just makes it hard to concentrate on.

The looks of it doesn't really bother me, it's just the fact that the video frame is actually positioned all the way to the left of the screen. I could just not be used to it, but I definitely need to get used to fullscreening youtube if they keep the video-on-the-left style.

so they went from a functioning layout to one that barely functions and isn't even centered, so why change it at all until it's actually better?

The layout not being centered doesn't bother me because I'm on a laptop and the only thing I generally dislike is that I can't find the Liked Videos playlist anymore.

I've been getting those recommendations since the previous youtube layout. Those EXACT SAME FUCKING RECOMMENDATIONS.
Guys, I found out what's in store for future Youtube updates!
- An even more minimalistic background than "all white and we didn't even bother to center". Lines between the different sections of the page and the different videos? No more! Notice how different parts of the screen are actually light gray? Now they're all white!
- We listened to feedback about video titles and channel names and such being under the video rather than above. We have fixed this by removing them entirely.
- You can no longer make it so that you only saw uploads from your subscriptions rather than every single thing they do. You now have the option to see what they like, favorite, and comment on (oh and I guess upload too), [I]or[/I] that PLUS every single video they view!
- The 'recommended videos' on the right side of the page now properly shows the correct recommended videos. You don't have to suffer from mostly having videos from the same channel or of the same type as the one you're watching! All recommended videos are now Fred, RWJ, Machinima, Annoying Orange and Piediepie.
- You now favorite videos by selecting Actions, then selecting Add To, then selecting Add To Playlist, then Add To Favorites. There are several checkboxes you must uncheck in order to not automatically like, comment, subscribe, and share.
- The end of the video will now automatically take you to a new video, whether you're in a playlist or not.
- An even MORE minimalistic background than before! Everything being white isn't minimalist enough. Instead, every part that was blank white space is now blank invisible space showing your desktop or whatever windows or programs you have under your internet browser. No you can not interact with the background, it's just for show. No you cannot move the tons of unconnected rectangles where actual web design used to be. There is no option to fill in the space.
- The top bar is now under the video. The Guide and More Results we put in are also now under the video. This way, the video is in the top left corner of your browser, as it should be.
- New comments will pop up in the video whenever they get made. Don't worry, we pause the video when this happens, because we love you.
- The bottom of the page is now directly under the top bar.
- We have reintroduced the feature of 'recommending videos based on videos you watched' basing recommendations on videos you have not actually watched.
Seriously cannot STAND this new update. Most of the time, I am kinda fine with them. But they really... fucked up this time.
I'm thankful it's not as bad for me, as it is for some people. Since I've been using the google chrome add on called Stylish, and have my youtube be black instead of white. So I'm not being fucking blinded whenever I log on.
The worst part for me is that now that everything is all the way to the left, there's no excuse to have the maximum space the video takes up outside fullscreen be 850x480.

I might have over reacted just a tiny bit.
I changed the bookmark to [url]http://www.youtube.com/my_subscriptions?feature=mhee[/url] instead of subscriptions/u. Not only does it get rid of the reccommended channels bar, but also gives me a nice grid view of the new videos. Absolutely reccommended.
Oh, oh my fucking god. They took out the ability to search by latest uploaded. Now you can only specify if you're looking for videos uploaded today, this week, or this month.
Pfft youtube they just never learn i want my fucking yellow subscribe button and star ratings back ... Why did justin bieber i mean google do this to us.
