Is using a diffuser for a flash a must? I'm still grasping how to use a flash effectively with my Canon T3i. I was handed down a Canon Speedlite 580X but wasn't given the manual to it, so i've been trying my best from watching videos and reading online how to use it.

I bounce it off walls/ceiling 90% of the time. Lower power on the flash and more exposure on the camera settings will give you more balance between ambient light and the flash, more power on the flash and less exposure or the camera settings will make the flash out 'weigh' the ambient light. In general I would default to ISO 100 and and 1/200 and set my lens to whatever aperture I want - then go through different powers on the flash until I get good exposure. I try to stay away from anything greater than 1/4 power and crank ISO to get more exposure, just to save batteries. That's just a basic rundown, other than that I have little idea of what I'm talking about.
Messing with PP with the pictures I took today, figuring out what looks okay for the competition. The storm never cleared, so I didn't have time to scout for some nice foreground objects in any of the landscapes I took today. This was taken in high wind in heavy rain, soaked the camera and myself. Edit: another.
Is this Buachaille Etive Mor?

It looks very 3 dimensional.

I really want to get some pics of it while climbing the area, instead of from near the road. I'm wanting to do the cobbler again first, and stac polly.
One of my friends done it during December and got trapped in a white out, they had ropes and ice axes and everything... pretty badass stuff. They made it to the top but it took a looooonnng time. It's a pretty insane climb, probably one of the hardest in Scotland actually, but don't quote me on that. I'm thinking about trying to do all the Munroes in Scotland. Not in any defined time period, but it'd be pretty cool to say you've done them all. You get some great views from Schiehallion on a clear day, and it's a pretty easy scramble. Few of us done it at the end of summer. It's worth checking out. Fucking loads of false summits though. It's good practice and it will be a great achievement to get all 366. I want to get all put in a book or on a wall or something when I'm done. Think I'd be optimistic in trying to get it up in the local art gallery. (By local I mean 60 miles away and the only one on the Island)

The second isn't level, awkwardly framed, and well... aesthetically unappealing. There is too much unbalance between how tight the frame is against his head and feet, and the large empty space to the left. The metal frame of the net on the left edge should be at least cropped out to match the right end (I'd crop it smack in the middle between the left most fence post and the edge of the left of the frame). Maybe even a square crop centered on the guy would work. The only thing it has going for it is how well the jump shot is. Like Legend said, it looks like a manipulation. It's interesting in it's own right, but seems like more of an outtake. Just my $0.02 on that. I really like the first one you posted. A nice wintery scene with a lighthearted feel.
