Holy shit bopie, get out of the woods. I haven't even stalked the thread for half a month and you're still in the damn woods.

I've had my Nikon D5100 for about, 3 weeks now. Only start really trying to take pictures properly for the past week. I've been youtubing a crap load too. Out of the 400 odd pictures I've taken, these are the ones that I think are nice, tell me what you think! I absolutely hate post-processing and like the photos to be 'as is'. Lastly, saw these kangaroos having fisty-cuffs for about 10 minutes. They were 300-350 metres away so I was at the extreme of my lense. As they were fighting they kept moving up the bank into the thick trees behind them until all I could hear was them rustling in the bushes. Also, kangaroos actually do stand up on their tail and kick out with both hind legs. Never knew that! I reckon bopie actually never leaves the woods, he just has a solar powered generator, a laptop with a dongle and his camera equipment.

[editline]10th January 2012[/editline] Here's some shit from today:
At least he gets outside. Forests are good places to be. Why not spend your time there? Also, Morocco update. Last full day today. Been hiking in the Atlas mountains the past few days. Got lost and stumbled across a little Berber village. Invited into a local's house for mint tea and fresh walnuts. We then followed him and his mule for a few km's to the next village and he pointed us in the right direction. Almost didn't make it off the mountain before the sun set and the cold kicked in. Needed to hitchhike the last few km's back on a truck to the alpine hostel we were staying in. Hashish, good company, great landscapes and weather. Good trip. The whole time hiking I only took 4 shots on my dslr. Been taking plenty of film though. Exciting stuff.
Haha must have been one of those nights.. because I got a photo of the moon too. Turned out pretty awful as I just have the lenses that came with my kit. Maybe you guys might know how to get a better shot.. but every time I went to capture it, I just got a massive glow/ball of light. this is the 'best' one I got. Would really like to know how to take moon shots. Any advice would help. What I'm using Canon 600D 55-250mm kit lens Is it a lost cause considering this lens?

I'm using the canon 1100D with the same lens, had I've gotten some really good shots with that setup. The first thing you should do is to go manual (or shutter priority) and choose a shorter shutter speed, since the moon is very bright you won't need a very long exposure time. Then i would recommend you to simply experiment in manual mode untill you get what you want. BTW, is that the longest focal length? I would either zoom in a bit more, or crop the photo a little bit.

Cant really remember (photography rookie here, only had my camera for a few months) Ive heard some people say that you can zoom in even further after the lens has reached its potential. Is this done in post or is there a camera setting im missing? I'd go out shooting tonight but I'm really sick. Shit sucks, I really want to try out some different things.
went for a walk through some muddy fields, great fun. Coincidentally, i hate mud.
Your bokeh doesn't look very "creamy" (I believe that's the correct term). Maybe you were going for that look though? The red contrasts great with the white snowy background.
Dunno about this myself to be honest, some CC would be good: (Eagle eyed people will spot the location from one of my previous photos)
I would personally try picking a more specific subject. When I first look at your picture, I'm not entirely sure of what I should look at first. Maybe if you focused and zoomed in more on those two guys in yellow vests walking towards you, or that guy standing with the flashlight. There seems to be quite a few different photos all available in this one picture. Just my two cents :)
Your bokeh doesn't look very "creamy" (I believe that's the correct term). Maybe you were going for that look though?
define creamy?
define creamy?
http://mansurovs.com/what-is-bokeh Scroll down towards "Good vs Bad Bokeh". There are some example pictures that show the difference. It states that good bokeh has "smooth round circles of light and no hard edges". Hope this helps a little!
