To me it just seems a little like a cheap trick, especially when it looks a little fake and overdone, but it's just an opinion, and I'm sure other people have many different opinions.
Could work well in an ad
It actually looks believable if the intention is that of mimicking tilt shift. The editing is decent, just a little over done. I'd take that picture and layer it over the original at 75-50% opacity.

Here's the 'mostly original', cropped: And 80% opacity on the curves, less blur: Glider 2, on Flickr

okay, much rather the second one you posted now im looking at the two.

The faux film stuff is a tiny bit overdone in that one. I like the compo and the tiny bit of bokeh over the edge though :)

Processing is fine, the dust and scratches were what I was talking about.

Hey guys, I haven't been posting much due to exam overload not giving me enough time to take photos. I've also decided to use my £2k to start training for a private pilots license rather than getting my motorbike, as it will be more beneficial in the long run, and I can always buy my motorbike next year. 1/52 - Kayube by Isaac Brownbridge, on Flickr
So here is the first photo of my fifty two week project. After quitting my 365 at day 100 due to dissatisfaction with my photos I have decided to start this project for 2012. I take Zenit 11 with me almost everywhere, and while me and my friend were waiting for everyone else to arrive we did an impromptu photoshoot. It was the middle of night, so getting the right lighting was difficult, however I do like how it has turned out. Sadly, though, I don't have a film scanner of my own, and Jessops film scanning not only messes up the cropping on almost all of the photos (including this one), but also generally mis-scans them. This was the only photo that was usable, and even so I had to correct it in light-room (it came out almost completely green). So it looks like I may have to use digital more, even though I prefer using film, until I can afford to buy a scanner.
2/52 - Richmond road cycling. by Isaac Brownbridge, on Flickr
I took this photo on the way to my orthodontist, to finally get my godforsaken braces taken off after having them for around 14 months. I now have perfectly straight teeth! I chose this spot as it is a road I always cycle down, and I like the architecture of the poppy factory of which the bike is leaning upon, since it creates leading lines towards the subjects. As well as that I felt a juxtaposition between my road bike and the bus stop, two forms of transport, may be interesting. Personally I hate the bus, and feel that my trusty road bike defeats it in many ways.
No admittance. by Isaac Brownbridge, on Flickr
This was also taken on my way to the orthodontist. I found this subject fairly interesting. Personally I chose it due to the man being broken in half as well as the caution tape strewn around. Yeah it is a little dark, I felt like anything brighter would take away from the atmosphere + my processing scrubs out some of the exposure and I didn't compensate enough for it when shooting.
Are you using ALien Skin Exposure there?
Good catch haha. The color presets are okay, but they all seem to come on too strong. Sometimes I'll blend their stuff in a bit with my normal processing, but I mostly just use it for the grain, scratches, and dust effects. I can't quite get that on my own properly with my negative overlays. Feels like cheating and now it's apparently recognizable, all the more motivation to get back to the scanner and negs.

On the picture of my shoe I used a colour film filter, but rubbed it out on the red to make it stand out a bit more. It's a good plugin but a lot of the effects are a bit too strong. [editline]14th January 2012[/editline] Try fading the scratches a bit, so they are slightly transparent, they'll be less intrusive on the eyes.
