CC?
The tones are nice, maybe a bit too much contrast... but there's a nice atmosphere to it. That said, to be honest mate it doesn't really do much for me. The subject feels a little lacking, and things like the metal fence in the background are somewhat distracting.
Looking at your flickr, some of your other shots are stronger. Long Path is real nice, could really benefit from some tinkering in post.

Great use of light streaks here, the way you can see them reflected and refracted through the subject is fantastic... nice work on spicing up an often overused and unimpressive technique.

MrEndangered: Really nice silhouette of the forest in the first one.
This picture was taken on a man-made jetty where treated sewage travels out to sea. That pipe on the right is where the sewage travels. Also, since this is right beside the airport, you can see a plane travel through the picture.

B-Haz your new photos are the strongest I've ever seen from you - amazing work. Much looking forward to how this 52 project pans out.
Do my photos look to dark to you guys? I got a black and white image printed and it came out darker than I expected.
I can't afford a screen calibrater either, is it possible to get it better calibrated by using the print as a reference?
Great use of light streaks here, the way you can see them reflected and refracted through the subject is fantastic... nice work on spicing up an often overused and unimpressive technique.
Thanks. I picked the subject because of it's oval form and figured it would reflect lightstreaks quite nicely, and it did! I tried also with a brown colored bottle but it turned out very generic
CC always welcome. Though I'm aware I think the apple picture needs recomposing.
The first one I feel the image is sorta incomplete with the trees being cropped off like that at the top, positioning yourself so the trees aren't cropped of imo would improve that picture.
The second feels really HDRish with the ground seems to lack definition/depth in its shadows. Idk everything about that photo feels a bit too motion blurred and dull.
The apple one I like the idea a lot, the blur in the foreground is sorta distracting to the subject and well yeah the leaves in the way of the apple seem to detract.

for some reason, my picture looks fine on the camera and on the thumbnail in the folder, but when I open it in Camera Raw it's really dark and bad, why is this?
for some reason, my picture looks fine on the camera and on the thumbnail in the folder, but when I open it in Camera Raw it's really dark and bad, why is this?
Because the camera generates the thumbnail and preview from the jpeg settings in camera, while camera raw ignores these and shows you its interpretation of the raw data.
Am I the only person who doesn't understand how to use Lightroom here?
it's mega easy once you get into it... i dont reeeeaaally understand the whole catalogues thing, but I just drag and drop photos into it, switch to the processing tab... do my tweaks, highlight the ones I want and then file>export.
I think I'll just stick with good o'l Photoshop.
Went for another walk today because I had to get a shot for my 2/52.

Man that i8 and (whatever the last car is) look really angry.
There's been some really constructive comments and advice in the last few pages. The thread is doing its job. Also some great shots.
Also, B-hazard, I love that no admittance photo. Really nice.
Contrast is way too high on those car shots. It works well on that mustang picture since it's got the bright yellow in juxtaposition, but with the rest it is over-done and makes it too dark.

No, lightroom does some balancing with the tone curve when you load an image. Try turning off the tone curve and you'll see the differences. You can also prevent lightroom from doing this in your settings.
Some nice photos and some nice critics on this page. I went photographing this evening at a local beach with some friends, and after a two-minute exposure i ended up with this. I kinda liked it, but what do you think?

The colored one is just mildly edited in Camera Raw and Photoshop. What do you think about the black and white version? Is it a bit overdone? (I know I shouldn't convert to BW unless I planned it when I shot the picture, but it gave the picture an old look (which is fitting since the diving tower is also very old).)
