• Facepunch App?
I think Facepunch works like a charm on my iphone
Sure. It does on most mobile browsers. But still you don't loose anything by supporting an app (which already exists) which makes browsing FP even faster. Once you learned to love those apps you don't want to miss them.
Working on a Facepunch iPhone app in my spare time at the moment, won't be done for a while so don't bug me about it. Will be free but ad-supported (iAds), and will probably be released to coincide with our VB4 upgrade. Ad-supported because I spent £60 on my Apple iPhone Developer account and I want to recoup that.
For me, Facepunch (especially writing something) tends to be slightly sluggish on mobile devices. And browsing on slow connections (I only have EDGE in many places) isn't fun.

Does any one think they could do this TapaTalk thing for an android phone (i have a droid) Whatever TapaTalk is it sounds pretty cool. The browser view on facepunch is kinda of annoying to start with because you need to zoom all the way out just to see the whole of one sentence. If it was screen formatted that would save a lot of scrolling.

Or do you even use an already existing interface such as the TapaTalk? Because that would make it easy to port this to other platforms.
Will the interface (serverside plugin) be released? Or do you even use an already existing interface such as the TapaTalk? Because that would make it easy to port this to other platforms.
Probably not sorry.
Will the interface (serverside plugin) be released? Or do you even use an already existing interface such as the TapaTalk? It should really be using OOP, not need that whole if-else block to include files (or even just move that to a helper function), it's a mish-mosh of vBulletin coding style and theirs, zero comments on code that's theirs, just stuff that doesn't give me a good feeling inside. Maybe I'm just nitpicking though. [editline]05:32PM[/editline] I'll look into writing our own API
Hexxeh can you release a version for 59p with no ads and a free version with ads? Also, where would the ads be.
I know it works fine, But a optimized app/www.m. could increase the speed and better navigation. Making a app for the iPhone is not hard, not hard at all. Downside is that you need the Apple SDK, that is €99 a year. Its pretty fair if you make lots of apps/Have a nice app idea that could be a hit. Edit: And you need a Mac, Windows cannot run SDK
Or like other normal people you could torrent the SDK.
The SDK is free, anyone can download it from Apple. What you pay for is the ability to put apps into the App Store, but more importantly, to digitally sign application binaries to run on a physical device and not just a simulator.
And I was considering getting the £70/year idea but didn't since I would be throwing £70 away. Good on Hexxeh though.
I've never had a problem using the boards on my g1 or my iphone.
An Android app would be nice. :3:
The framework I use technically means it should work on Android devices too with minimal work, but I don't have any devices to test on. I'll deal with that after I'm done on the iPhone version maybe.
This has been suggested many times and each time we've concluded that the website looks fine on mobile devices.
It was fucked up on Opera Mini for a bit, but it's sorted itself out
You don't get the point. It shall be added as alternative (not as requirement). How can people be so ignorant? If you don't like it, simply stay with your mobile browser and enjoy your horizontal scrolling and wasted space by margins everywhere (because it was optimized for a PC obviously). I like to browse a forum with e.g. TapaTalk which blends out every crap and just shows me the pure posts. Easier to read, no horizontal scrolling. Easier to reply or edit a post.
What the fuck is wrong with horizontal scrolling? On my itouch it works perfectly ok and it is not a pain to scroll horizontally. I read and write posts everyday on my itouch and I never had a problem with it. I don't know about blackberries though, but I assume it's not a big problem either My point was that we don't need a pretty much useless new thing added just because some people are too lazy to scroll.

Makes it easier for us to use that existing App instead of inventing a new one. Btw: I have also the same habits concerning "other people's code" but sometimes, you have to simply use it instead of reinventing the wheel. But if you can avoid it, it's fine because it saves time. Also having stuff organized in an app (for those who want it) is quite nice. And as I said it about twenty times before: You don't have to use it if you don't like it. But don't forget about those who like it. You can then decide what to use.

Stop posting that it makes me want to start designing a UI
what do you think i'm doing :smug:
Brb renewing my iPhone developers license.
so just to get a definite answer is anyone working on this or is it a no-go?
I shall make a thread about my progress on this. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=998713 Here you go. Those are my latest updates on the app. It's coming soon, so don't ask for it now.
Just to update you guys, I'm now able to do this as my coursework project for A2 Computing. This means I'll be interviewing garry as to exactly how he'd like the app to work, and then once it's done it'll go into the store (and hopefully get me a decent grade for my A-level).
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
