Also, it seems in the story (although he said he's only going from memory and family testimony) that the final injection was done right after his father set down the birds, so I doubt they had enough time to be malnourished. And he said that the medicine only brought his temperature down, delaying his sickness, not actually curing it. In any event, cool story!
