I'm sure they'll be a bit cheaper a year or two from now.
Not here, they're going to increase the tax for hybrids by about 60%
Can I nominate my own car for a respectable cheap car?
Bought it for £2200 with 58,000 miles on the clock, full MOT and full Honda service history. Has been 100% reliable with no knock, squeaks or rattles. 200bhp, 6.5secs to 60 and handles pretty well, doesn't too bad either:

Has all mod cons such as air conditioning, leather seats and cruise control. Get a whole lot of car for a little amount of money. Bought it as a go-between whilst I was saving some money for a nicer, newer car but I've got no plans to sell it just yet.

You've picked up a great example though. I must admit, I've tried looking and all there is out there is high mileage, rust or modifications. :(
I like the older Mazda 3s, before the current restyling

Interior is also really nice for a car in that price range.

Rust.
Ahh old gen mazda's are indeed better than the new one, I really can't help seeing those stupid derpy front end they gave to the newer one, it's damn ugly.
And I also can't help but associate Mazda and rust together either.
Just because you can still see the other car does not mean you are "keeping up"
just sayin.
Yeah, but seeing the other car right next to you from 40 to about 100 is keeping up. I honestly don't see why no one can believe that. I used to have a stock 240SX that had him off the line until I'd hit 3rd gear then he'd start coming up on me and start pulling. That was with a KA24E also, they only really make like 127hp to the wheels at most.

If you haven't already, have a look at the owners forum for sale section. A bit bare at the minute but things seem to pick up around spring time

Parents got me one at $5500.
I love them forever and a half. The owner we bought mine from mostly kept it in a garage and drove it 1-2 times a week, so it's in very good condition.

Uhhhhhm. Maybe your 'friend's WRX' isn't a WRX and is just the standard Impreza? That or he's just an awful driver? Depending on the year of the 240SX, your 0-60 time is anywhere from 7.8 at best to 9.5 seconds at worst. The WRX does it in under 5.5s. Either it's not a WRX or you're full of it.
Did some research and apparently with the KA24E it does 0-60 in 8.6-8.7 seconds. That's not keeping up with a 5.5 second car.

These are absolutely everywhere in the UK. In both MX-5 and Eunos form. Most of which are in terrible condition. Not quite sure why there are so many of these around compared to the amount of cars left of a similar age.

Was actually going to chime in on this, I've raced a I/H/E KA24DE (Not a KA24E, this was the more powerful DOHC variant) 240SX with my little 1.6 turbo CRX Si and I walked all over his ass, I'm making at most ~175-180hp (more realistically 160-170). I refuse to believe that any (even lightly modified) KA24E can keep up with a bone stock WRX.
You can get a good e36 bmw under 100k miles around 6 grand. Leaving you 4000 for fixed and upgrades.

Or an E30 around $4K, leaving 6 grand...
